“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ” (Galatians 6:2).

Peacefully, surrounded by family, the Lord took to His heavenly home on Tuesday, April 1, 2014, our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Joukje (Jean) DeGroot (nee Eldering). She was a good and faithful servant and longed to be with the Lord. A dedicated homemaker, she loved her family deeply. She was born in Hoogkerk, the Netherlands, July 13, 1927. After she married Cornelis DeGroot on September 6, 1951, they immigrated to Southwestern Ontario to raise their family. They were very dedicated to the Christian Reformed Church and to establishing Christian education. Jean loved to crochet, knit, embroider and cross-stitch, making beautiful sweaters and bedspreads for her grandchildren. Predeceased by her husband Cor, and grandson Dan Steven. Dear mother of Clara (Tony) Vanderlaan, Janet (Rick) Klooster, Howard DeGroot, Kim Phillips (John Ifill), Neil (Sue) DeGroot. Beloved grandmother of 18 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and two on the way.
