Age 62 of Goderich, ON, passed peacefully at St. Joseph’s Hospice on Wednesday, June 4, 2014. He was born and raised in Sarnia. Dear son of John and Margaret Daye. Oldest brother to David (Carol) of Alberta, Wendy (Mike) Street of Sarnia, and Sharon (Mike) Damchuk of Corunna. Brother-in-law of Nancy Coate of Sarnia. Predeceased by brother Ralph (2006). Also survived by daughter Shannon and grandchildren Skye and Dylan, all of South Africa. Special uncle to nieces and nephews John, Heather (Paul), Nic (Jen), Michael (Terra), Jody (Josh), Tracy (Randy), Christie (Shawn), and the late Shane (April 2014). “Old” Uncle John to great-nieces and nephews Jacob, Chloe, Davey and Becky. Will be missed by his Corunna cousins, as well as other aunts and uncles near and far. John was an Education Teacher in Goderich, over 20 years at the Bluewater Correctional Centre, and recently at the Secondary School. He loved his life in Goderich and had many good friends there, and in Sarnia. John was looking forward to a summer of golf and is sure to be on the “Big Course,” now parring every hole. His family would like to thank Bluewater Health Palliative Care, London Victoria Hospital – Radiation Centre, CCAC, VON Nurses and PSW staff, and St. Joseph’s Hospice, all who treated John with much care and compassion. Cremation has taken place. As per John’s wishes, no visitation will be held. A celebration of John’s life will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, June 13, 2014, at Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Line, Sarnia, followed by a reception at the Smith Family Centre. Donations in honour of John’s life to VON, St. Joseph’s Hospice, or Salvation Army would be greatly appreciated (cheques only at the funeral home please).
