Dawson, Peter John – Peacefully at home on Sunday May 13, 2012 with his family around him.  Beloved husband of Mary (nee McMillan) . Loving Father of David and Emily (Ralph Sharples) and proud grandfather of Sydney Sharples. Predeceased by his parents Joan & Sidney, Brother Tim (Pat). Survived by his sisters Ann (Ian Cook) and Chris (Burt Wiley), sister-in-law Paula McMillan and nine nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Peter was born in Andover, Hants, England and emigrated with his family to New Westminster, BC in 1948. He graduated from the Royal Military College in 1959 as a civil engineer. After serving in the Air Force for three years he volunteered with the Canadian University Services Overseas in Ghana. He returned to Canada in 1966 and worked at the Canadian International Development Agency for most of his career. He also received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Nova Scotia College of Arts and Design in 1970 and a Masters in Engineering from the University of Ottawa. Peter will be remembered for his charm and sense of humour. He enjoyed socializing with his many friends, attending the theatre, working on his airplane and singing in the Parkdale United Church Choir. Peter was grateful to the donors of the kidneys that extended his life for many years. Thanks are extended to the many caregivers who have helped him over the years, including those in Nephrology at the Ottawa Hospital, the Intensive Care Unit at the Civic campus and the community palliative care team as well as his dedicated friends, relatives and neighbours.

Friends are invited to visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry 315 McLeod St. (at O’Connor) on Wednesday May 16th from 2 to 4 & 7 to 9 pm. Service in Parkdale United Church 429 Parkdale Avenue (at Gladstone) on Thursday at 11:00 am. Donations in memory of Peter to the Kidney Foundation or the Ottawa Food Bank would be appreciated.
