DAVIE: Mrs. Marjorie E. (nee Smith), of St. Thomas.
DAVIE, Marjorie Eleanor (nee Smith), a St Thomas and area resident since 1950, passed away at the Valleyview Home, St. Thomas on Sunday, June 10, 2012, in her 92nd year. Marjorie was born in Windsor, ON, August 12, 1920, the daughter of the late Clarence (1953) and Nellie (nee Reynolds) Smith (1988). She lived in Merlin and Thamesville, until moving to London to work. While there, she met the love of her life, Thomas A. Davie, and they were married in 1947. Tom died in 2006. A precious daughter, Eleanor Ruth, born to them in 1956, died in 1959. Dear sister of Mavis McDonald (late Don) of Petrolia, Millie Harkness (late Marvin) of Corunna, Joyce Heath (Elbert) of Oak Grove, MO, Larry Smith (Kay) of Madoc, David Smith (Carolyn) of Calgary, AB, late Clarence Smith (Elaine of Odessa, MO), late Vivian White (late Vaughn), and the late Irene Willson (late Harold). Also fondly remembered by other in-laws, and many nieces and nephews. Marjorie was known for her culinary arts- her preserves and walnut cookies live on in memory. She knitted vests and hats to be given to the needy in Honduras through World Accord, and her handmade quilts have been warming hundreds of people for many years. Marjorie lived in Valleyview for 10 years and truly adopted it as home. She will be sadly missed by staff and residents. Marjorie was loved for her quiet wisdom, inquisitive mind, sense of humour, willingness to participate in the silliest of activities, and her abiding faith. Her love of her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ has never wavered and her witness continues to touch hearts. She was a lifelong member of the Community of Christ, serving as book steward, recorder and an integral participant in the Women’s Dept., and though in later years she was unable to attend the St Thomas congregation, she never lost interest and was always in tune with what was going on, offering insight and prayers for her faith family. The funeral service will be held at the Sifton Funeral Home, 118 Wellington St., St. Thomas (519-631-1160) on Thursday, June 14th at 11:00 a.m. Relatives and friends will be received at the funeral home on Wednesday evening, June 13th from 7-9 p.m. and one hour prior to the service. Flowers gratefully declined. Marjorie would appreciate your expression of love through memorial donations to the Valleyview Home Memorial Foundation, the Canadian Cancer Society or Parkinson Society Canada.
