DAVENPORT: William John VI “Bill”
Passed away suddenly at his home on Friday September 13, 2013. Bill Davenport of Norwood in his 77th year. Bill will be fondly remembered for playing Lacrosse with Jim Bishop in the “Green Gaels” Lacrosse organization and as a Propsman for the CBC from 1956 – 1966 before retiring to the Peterborough and Norwood area. Once in the area he volunteered his time and participated in hockey and lacrosse in Peterborough including the Peterborough Antiques Oldtimers Hockey Team. He was a dedicated volunteer with Big Brothers of Peterborough. Loved and missed by his wife of 56 years, Carol (nee Bawden). Dad is remembered by Dennis (Ruth) of Aurora, Tim (Stacey) of Lakefield, Shelagh Davenport (David Ellis) of Peterborough and Sharon Johnston (David Livingstone) of Peterborough. Loving grandpa of 12 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter. Also missed by his sisters Theresa Peets of Toronto, Sheila Niezbrzycki (Ed) of Brampton, brother Jay (Audrey) of Alliston, sisters-in-law Shirley Davenport of Campbellford and Marie Bawden of Toronto and by his many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his sister Jacqui Griffith (George), brother Terry and brothers-in-law Frank Peets and Jim Bawden. Friends and relatives may call at THE HENDREN FUNERAL HOMES, NORWOOD CHAPEL on Tuesday September 17, 2013 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM. A funeral service will be held in the Chapel on Wednesday September 18, 2013 at 10:30 AM. Cremation. A reception will follow in the R.C.L. Branch #300, Norwood. Memorial donations may be made to the Big Brothers of Peterborough or the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #300, Norwood as expressions of sympathy.
