mel dalton 002PoppyDALTON, James Melvin “Mel”, of St. Thomas, passed away at the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital on Sunday, March 24, 2013, in his 92nd year.  Beloved husband for 64 years to Aleta (nee Perry) Dalton.  Dearly loved father of Lynn Sloan and her husband Brian.  Cherished grandfather of Tevia Ostrosser, Katie De Moor and her husband Chris, Lindsey Ostrosser, and Emily and Megan Sloan.  Proud great grandfather of Noah De Moor.  Dear brother of Maxine Daniel (late Harry).  Also fondly remembered by sister-in-law, Doreen Dalton, as well as several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.  Predeceased by three sisters, Doris Campbell, Ida Laurance, and Valda Campbell, and by two brothers, Wilmont and Carl Dalton.  Born in St. Thomas, ON, July 28, 1921, he was the son of the late Gordon Dalton and the late Alta (nee McNea) Dalton Bateman.  Mel retired in 1983 from the St. Thomas Psychiatric Hospital as a PNA.  He was an adherent of St. Andrew’s United Church, St. Thomas and a member of the Quarter Century Club of the St. Thomas Psychiatric Hospital.  During the Second World War, Mel served overseas with the Canadian Army.  Relatives and friends will be received by the family on Friday, March 29th from 2:00-4:00 & 7:00-9:00 p.m. at the Sifton Funeral Home, 118 Wellington St., St. Thomas (519-631-1160). The funeral service will be held at St. Andrew’s United Church, 60 West Ave., St. Thomas on Saturday, March 30th at 11:00 a.m.  Interment in Elmdale Memorial Park.  Memorial donations to St. Andrew’s United Church or the charity of one’s choice gratefully acknowledged.
