It is with broken hearts we announce the passing of Walt Czekierda on Sunday, June 3, 2012 at LHSC Victoria Hospital. Devoted son of Regina and the late Bronislaw Czekierda (2003) of Embro, Walt was in his 58th year. He will be sadly missed by his sister Alicja of Woodstock as well as his brother Stan and sister-in-law Angie of Brampton.  Walt was a loving brother and the proud uncle of Jessica and Jason. Family was very important to him.  Walt will forever be in the heart of his soul mate, life partner and best friend, Gerrie Evans. Together they enjoyed 19 fabulous years.  In the Spring he always picked a bouquet of forget-me-nots for his “big sweetheart”.  Granddaughter, Olivia, was his special “little sweetheart”.  Walt treasured his friendship with Todd and Lauren. He will be lovingly remembered by his Stephenson “sisters” and the entire Stephenson clan.  Walt was a kind and gentle man who always saw the best in everyone.  Among his many interests were poetry, old books, music, Shakespeare, computers and astronomy.  He never stopped marveling at the wonders of the Universe.  Walt always put others first, preferring to stay in the background.  In spite of this he truly was the “wind beneath our wings,” always extending a word of praise or encouragement.  The world is a better place because of him.  As friends have said, “Knowing Walt has been a gift.”  We wish to thank all our wonderful family and friends who supported us through this journey.  Our grateful appreciation to the amazing staff of the Palliative Ward at Victoria Hospital. Friends will be received at the SMITH-LeROY FUNERAL HOME, 69 Wellington Street North, Woodstock on Wednesday, 2-4 and 7-9 pm.  Rosary prayers at the funeral home on Wednesday evening at 8:00 pm.  Funeral Mass at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 169 Ingersoll Road, Woodstock on Thursday, June 7, 2012 at 11:00 am.  Interment at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Woodstock.  A celebration of Walt’s life will take place at the Civic Gardens, corner of Springbank Drive & Wonderland Road in London.  Date and time to follow.  Smith-LeRoy, (519) 537-3611.  Personal condolences may be sent at www.smithleroy.com
