Cherished grandfather of Tyla and Haley. Predeceased by his wife Brenda (Roberts)  Beattie. Dear brother of Doug Beattie (Judy) and the late Margaret Mulligan and brother-in-law of Dick Mulligan, Cheryl Pitchford, Heather Baer, Carolyn McLean (Bob) and David Cook. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Also predeceased by his parents Wilfred and Gladys (Flannigan) Beattie and sister in law Pat Beattie.

Lloyd Henry Wheeler, a resident of Pinecrest Manor in Lucknow and formerly of Teeswater and Bluevale, passed away at Pinecrest Manor on Tuesday, January 24th, 2017 at the age of 82.

Beloved husband of Patricia Gamble-Wheeler (née Mulcaster) of Teeswater and the late Isabel Wheeler (née Cameron) who predeceased him in May 1994.

Dear father of David Wheeler and his wife Maureen of Erinsville and Heather Montgomery and her husband Doug of Peterborough.

Missed by his grandchildren, Michela and Ashley Montgomery and Zack and Maddi Wheeler.

Fondly remembered by Pat’s family; Donna and Dennis Thompson of R. R. #3 Walkerton, David and Bonnie Gamble of Teeswater, Doug and Vickie Gamble of Paris, Derrick and Shirley Gamble of Formosa and Darlene and Don McCall of Teeswater and their families.

Predeceased by his parents, Henry and Rifa (née Jenkins) Wheeler and infant brother Bruce.

Visitation will be held at the Tiffin Funeral Home, Teeswater on Friday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The funeral service to celebrate Lloyd’s life will be held at Knox Presbyterian Church (7 James Street West), Teeswater on Saturday, January 28th, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Owen Kim officiating.

After a trying battle with Alzheimer’s Disease, Lynne passed peacefully at Grey Gables Nursing Home, Markdale on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 in her 71st year. Beloved wife of Alan for 50 years. Loving mother of John(Yvonne) of Cambridge and Paul(Lori) of Kitchener. Loved and remembered by grandchildren Amy, Scott, Cameron and Mia. She will be greatly missed by her twin sister Suzanne(Alan) Humphrey of Ballantrae.  Predeceased by parents Frederick and Ruby Clark.

Lynne graduated Acadia University, majoring in Biology, in 1967 were she met the love of her life. Lynne loved the beaver valley for her gardening and skiing. An active member of the Markdale Horticultural Club.

FRY: Karren Ann of Vancouver Formerly of Ontario

images-4It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Karren Ann Fry. Karren passed away in her home on June 13, 2016. 

Karren was was born to Alan (2013) and Elizabeth (Betty Ann) Fry on December 12, 1976 at Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria B.C.  After an early life in British Columbia, Karren’s family moved to Ontario where she completed a Bachelor of Arts Degree with Honours in Criminology from Windsor University in Ontario, which led to her working with RCMP in the student program as a young adult.  She eventually moved to Vancouver BC where she married Cary De Best and had her beautiful daughter, Leah.  In time, Karren ventured out on her own and worked as a support worker for adults with mental illness.
 
Karren was a loving mother, dedicated family member and a good friend. Her raw sincerity, infectious laugh, sense of humour and amazing spirit made her a joy to be around. She would brighten anyone’s day with a caring message of support or a ridiculous story.  

Karren was a sincere Buddhist and loved travelling to international Dharma Festivals with her brother for teachings and inspiration.  Special powa ceremonies were performed for Karren by Gen Kelsang Thekchen and friends at Kadampa Mediation Centre Vancouver on June 20th, 2016, As well by her Teacher and friend Gen Kelsang Delek and many others.

Karren enjoyed nature and would find peace during a long walk with her daughter in the parks that line the beautiful coast of Vancouver.  She especially loved animals and adored her two little boy cats Thomas (T-Dawg) and Sammy. 

Her family, friends, and all those she touched will miss her tremendously. Karren is survived by her beautiful and loving daughter, Leah De Best (Cary); Her Mother Elizabeth and grandmother Nelda Sauer; her uncles Jim, Ron, Tom, Doug and her Aunt Ellen; her brother Jeff Fry (Devon) and niece Lexa; and her sister Leanne Fry. 
 

There will be a a celebration of life on July 2nd, 2016 from 11:00am – 2:00pm at St. James Community Centre, 3214 West 10th Avenue, Vancouver B.C.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Shawn Mathieson on Thursday March 3rd, 2016 at the young age of 48 in a tragic accident.  Loved son of the late Pauline Lizette Larche and the late Thomas Mathieson; spouse of Carrie Pyzevas; father of Corey, Scott and Amelie; brother of the late Gill, Heather (the late Roscoe – Masao) and Michael (Victor); loving uncle to Bill, Shayla, Kyle and Cyelle.  The family will receive relatives and friends at Heritage Funeral Complex, 1250 Trim Rd. (corner of Taylor Creek Dr.), Orléans, on Wednesday, March 9th, 2016 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. and on Thursday, March 10th  from 1-2 p.m.  A Memorial Service will follow in the Heritage Chapel at 2 p.m. followed by a reception.  Shawn was a dedicated Firefighter with the Ottawa Fire Service for 15 years.  Shawn was a loving father and husband who extended his love and warmth to everyone who knew him.  A kind and gentle soul, with nothing but the best interests of others.  Shawn’s extended family in the fire department was a big part of his life with his recent endeavours.  His large family and many cousins and friends are devastated. images-4Jean Cote born to Raymond Cote (deceased) and Denis Cote, November 7, 1958……died peacefully in Cornwall, Ontario at St. Joseph’s Continuing Care Hospital on January 21st, 2016 leaving behind two children, Marie-Eve and David Cote of Montreal, his brother Pierre (Carmen), two nieces Myriam and Lawrence and many aunts and uncles and his common law wife of 12 years, Theresa and her extended family that he considered his also.
Jean was an avid golfer, artist and wood working was a very big passion of his. He and Theresa resided in Chesterville, Ontario until he was no longer able to live at home once the results of having MS for many years took hold..
Jean will be very much missed by all….donations to the MS Society appreciated.

Nellie was born in Arnhem, Netherlands on November 27, 1932 to the late Jacobus and Petronella Velthuizen.

Beloved wife of the late Bernardus “Ben” Nusink who predeceased her in September 2013.

Dear mother of Juliette Kunz and her husband Peter of Mount Elgin, Richard Nusink and his wife Magda of Toronto and David Nusink and his wife Helen of Ajax.

Missed by her grandchildren Robert Barker (Valerie), Kevin Barker, Francis Nusink and Beatrice Nusink and great-grandchildren Sierra Wilkinson and Skyla Locke.

Nellie was a talented quilter and fabric artist and an avid gardener.

Visitation will be held at the Tiffin Funeral Home, Teeswater on Saturday, February 20th, 2016 from 2-4 p.m. Following Nellie’s wishes, there will be no funeral service.

GILLIES, James “Jim” McPhail of Toronto

Gillies, JamesJim passed peacefully at North York General Hospital in Toronto on Sunday, December 13. He is missed by his loving family, many friends and colleagues.

Jim was born in the village of Teeswater in Western Ontario to Dr. M.H. Gillies and his wife Gladys, a family that was part of the town and region from its earliest days. At 17, Jim attended the University of Western Ontario, and majored in Economics. His time at Western was interrupted by the war when Jim joined the RCAF in 1944 and served as air crew overseas. Upon his return Jim finished his degree with honours and decided to continue his education at Brown University in the USA where he earned an MA. Jim continued his education at Indiana University where he was granted his PhD in Urban Land Economics. After graduation, Jim accepted a professorship at UCLA in California where he rose to prominence in his field, gained his full professorship and was assistant Dean. Jim married his wife Betsy and welcomed children David and Cathy at this time.

Jim was always longing to return to Canada and his family in Ontario. In 1965, the opportunity arose for him to return to act as the founding Dean of the Faculty of Administrative Studies at York University – now the Schulich School of Business. Over seven years Jim built the school from a big idea into the strong base for what is one of the leading schools in North America today. During this period Jim made many friends and grew strong relationships throughout the Canadian business community. He served on many corporate boards and helped establish a world-class zoo in Toronto. Jim and Betsy welcomed children James and Ted during this time. He loved the time with his family. Christmas was always special as were many, many memorable summers in Pointe-au-Baril, Muskoka and the Bruce Peninsula.

In 1972, Jim ran for parliament, winning a seat in the Don Valley riding in Toronto and going on to act as shadow finance minister in the PC opposition to the Trudeau Government. He won reelection to a second term in Don Valley in 1975. Jim ran for leadership of the PC party towards the end of his second term in parliament, throwing his support toward the eventual winner Joe Clark. Jim served as senior policy advisor to the Prime Minister during the Clark government, accompanying him to the G7 Tokyo summit.

After his time in government, Jim returned as a professor at York University, in the school of business. He was instrumental in continuing to build the school he founded to the stature it has today. Jim chaired several programs while at York, most recently the Canada-Russia Corporate Governance Program. He always had great passion and energy for teaching business students, being with them and sharing in their fresh ideas and enthusiasm. Jim has a great many friends and colleagues from this time both in academia and in the business community where he was a member of several corporate boards.

Jim was honored in many ways for his dedication to education and public service. He was awarded honorary doctorates from York, Simon Fraser and the Moscow Higher School of Economics. At York, Jim was awarded the title of University Professor. As a proud Canadian he was deeply honored by the award of the Order of Canada for his contributions to education.

Jim leaves behind a loving family: his wife of 62 years Betsy, children David (Kathy), Cathy, James (Cindy) and Ted (Jacquie), grandchildren Jackie, Gwen, James and David and several nieces and nephews. Jim was the last surviving member of his family, being predeceased by his siblings, Helen Wilson (James), Don (Francis) and John (Poppy). Even with his successful career in many capacities, Jim held dear most of all, family, friends and his roots as a small town boy from Teeswater, Ontario.

A funeral service to commemorate Jim’s life will be held at the Teeswater United Church (13 Elizabeth Street South), Teeswater on Saturday, January 2nd, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. He will be laid to rest in the family plot at Culross-Teeswater Cemetery. A Celebration of Life to be held in Toronto in the spring. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Teeswater Town Hall Renovation Fund (cheques payable to Municipality of South Bruce) would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.

Loving mother of Robbie Elliott (Jessica) of London, and step-mother of Shanda Foxton (Brent McAllister) of Maitland, Brian Foxton (Deanna) of Kanata and Shelby Hayes (Richard) of Cambridge.  Cherished grandmother of Jensen and Jameson Elliott and Cooper and Keegan McAllister, Riley and Taylor Foxton, and Orla and Teigue Hayes.  Dear sister of Sharon Villeneuve, Larry and Robin Cardinal (Paula Donoghue) and the late Jim Cardinal. Daughter of the late Red and Dorothy (Kane) Cardinal. Also survived by sister in law Donna Cardinal and Gary Foxton (Judy) and several nieces and nephews.

William A. Heeney
March 28th 1934 – September 9th 2015

After a long battle with pancreatic cancer – courageously fought; Bill passed away in the comfort of his home with family by his side. Beloved husband and best friend of Cheryle Heeney. Loving father of David, Bonnie, Debbie, Cathy, Bill, Chris, Susan, Mark, Kim and Ian. Cherished Grandfather, Papa, and Great Grandpa to his many grandchildren. Brother in-law to Wayne & Liz, Dale & Jane, Joyce and Marion. Special Uncle to Sierra and beloved by his many nieces and nephews, and good friend to many. Bill was and remains a much loved man who will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Service will be held at St. Lukes Anglican Church in Rosemont Ont. on September 17th 2015 at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, Bill has requested that donations be made to St. Lukes Anglican Church.

Loving mother of Ashley Fountain (Mica) of Toledo and Jason Stretton of Lombardy. Cherished gramma of Madison, Makenna, Joshuah and Jackson Fountain.. Beloved daughter of Jean (Hartwell) and the late Lebroix “Sonny” St. Denis. Dear sister of Lisa, Ronny, Alfred and John St. Denis, Suzanne Hebert, Carol Campbell and Laura Casselman. Beloved wife of the late Keith Howe Sr. dear mother of Debbie Smith (Rob), Keith Howe Jr. (Sandra) and Dan Howe (Beth). Loving grandmother of  Matthew Smith (Joanna), Lindsay Smith ( Dean) Josh, Jenny and Katrina Howe, Kati Keefauve, Courtney Savier and Matthew Urbanek, great grandmother of Blake, Kayleigh, Jordan, Hunter, Halleigh, Brooke, Graeson and Noah. Marjorie is survived by her brother Ken Johnston (Jocelyne), and sisters Lillian Fournier and Bev Hutton as well as several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by a sister Marie Jeffers.

Entered into rest; Richard James Towsley age 74, peacefully, with family by his side, at the Brockville General Hospital Charles Street Site on May 16, 2015. Richard was a resident of Brockville, formerly of Cardinal. He is survived by his loving wife Carolyn M. Towsley (King) and daughters Catherine Bannan and Janet Bissonnette (Wayne) and by granddaughters Rebecca Bissonnette and Catie Bannan: sisters Patricia Barkley, Alice Barkley, sister in law Frances Towsley, Elaine Bolton (Sydney), brother in law John Powers as well as 23 nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by parents Clarence and Margaret Towsley (Keeler); daughter Julie Anne; Brothers, George and Donald; sisters Katherine Harrison, Suzanne Powers, and brother in law Harry Harrison.

As requested by Richard there will be no visitation. A private interment will take place at a later date.
