John Trevor Coker passed away peacefully in Hamilton Ontario on February 14, 2013 with his children by his side. He is survived by his three children Allen and his partner Gina, Danielle and her husband Eugene, and Christine, as well as his two sisters in England, Norma and Janet and their families.  John left England as a young man, joined the Navy in Halifax and met the woman who would be his wife and life partner until her death 4 years ago, Therese Marie Rose Coker (Ducharme). Together, they traveled extensively in North America and Europe, started and operated many businesses, raised their three children and had a rich family life as well as friends all over the world. John was an ambitious young man and ventured along several career paths in his lifetime, including Electronics Technician, Master Electrician, electrical contracting company owner, car rental agency owner, motel owner, finally setting into a maintenance electrician role at Cami Automotive in Ingersoll, Ontario in his later years. Even after his official retirement he didn’t slow down too much however, continuing to work part-time as an electrician for many more years, volunteering with the Cancer Society, Meals on Wheels, and helping seniors with income tax preparation in the Delhi, Ontario area. He is deeply missed by both staff and many residents at Extendicare Hamilton where he resided since 2009. Special Thank you to all of the caring staff at Extendicare that provided outstanding care, both physical and emotional, to John over the years.
We do not say good-bye Dad, good-bye John, good-bye friend, good-bye brother, uncle…. We say thank you – for blessing our lives in so many ways – for being true to yourself despite the odds – for showing us the adventures of life that are out there for the taking – for loving us so completely. Cremation has taken place. Friends and family are invited to a Memorial Reception in John’s honour at KITCHING, STEEPE & LUDWIG FUNERAL HOME, 146 Mill St. N., Waterdown on Wednesday, February 20, 2013 from 7 – 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you consider a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
