MARTIN, Ian Bethune of Cobourg, Ontario

Posted by on April 3, 2018

After a long, brave and quietly fought battle, always with a smile on his face and never a complaint, a wonderful man has finally closed his eyes for the last time and is now at peace. The nightly 7 p.m. “dates” with Jessica Fletcher, his weekly quest for that elusive lottery win, and the daily laps at the CCC, with a smile, nod or “hello” to fellow walkers have come to an end. Beloved husband of the late Gladys, loving father to Beverly (Reg Stanley), Sylvia, John and Glenda. Proud grandfather of Erin, Russell and Camryn.  We already miss his amazingly strong bear hugs, his keen Scottish wit, his singing, the sparkle in his eyes and hearing him cheer on his beloved horses, Maple Leafs and Raptors.  The family would like to thank all of the earthly angels and agencies that assisted Dad over the past few months. Central East LHIN, Care Partners, VON, Community Care, St. Elizabeth’s and every other agency that magically appeared to offer their assistance – we cannot thank you enough. To Penny Baird, Diana and Dory at NHH, thank you for everything you did to make Dad’s final wish to come home happen – you were true miracle workers who will forever hold a special place in our hearts. What a day that was! To Donna Galletti, thank you for having made Dad’s Thursdays brighter. We are beyond grateful to each and every one of you for your kindness, professionalism and compassion.  Cremation has taken place. As per Dad’s wishes, there will be no service.  In lieu of flowers, a donation to your favourite animal shelter/rescue or other charity, a random act of kindness, or just finding your own personal happiness would be appreciated by the family. Condolences received at www.MacCoubrey.com
