CHRISTIE, Wilma of St. Catharines, formerly of Dobbinton
In her 86th year, much beloved wife of John Wesley Christie of St. Catharines, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Friday December 21st. Wilma was predeceased by her parents, William and Velma Kingston, her sisters, Lenora and Mary, her brothers, Allen, Jack and Kenneth. She is survived by her husband, John, her son Bob (Natalie) of Freelton, her daughters, Barbara Gledhill (John) of Port Elgin, Sherry McOustra (Don) of Thorold, Susan Christie of St. Catharines, Sandra Dudar (Mike) of Beamsville, 11 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren, sister Jean Doiron (Leo) of Hamilton, brother Douglas Kingston (Nancy) of Paisley, and sister-in-law Marie Christie of Tara.
Wilma was a member of the Dobbinton United Church in her youth, of which she had fond memories, and later of St. John’s United Church in Chesley prior to moving to St. Catharines. She was a very proud charter member of the Chesley Legion Auxiliary. Wilma was a member of Louth United Church for many years until its closure. She then joined Memorial United Church where her pies and butter tarts were renowned and she took enormous pleasure in participating in the Treasure Chest at the Christmas bazaar.
Wilma was employed by Towers and later Sears Canada as a cosmetician. She took great pride in her work, had a loyal client base and was recognized for her many sales achievements. Wilma’s greatest passion was her family. She loved and was loved by all who knew her and will be dearly missed.
Visitation will be held at the Rhody Family Funeral Home, Chesley on Friday, December 28th from 7 – 9 p.m. followed by a funeral service on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at 11a.m. There will be a Legion Auxiliary Service at the funeral home on Friday evening beginning at 6:45 p.m.
