At Meadow Park Nursing Home, Chatham, on Tuesday April 25th, 2017, Mr. August Sunnen of Chatham in his 96th year. Cherished son of the late August “Gus” and Charlotte (nee Williams) Sunnen. In 75th year with his beloved wife, and best friend, Marian (nee Porter). Loving and devoted father of James “Jim” of Chatham, John and his wife Linda Sunnen of Solana Beach, CA, Paul and his wife Bonnie Sunnen of Chatham, and Donald and his wife Elaine of Lexington VA. He was the proud and adoring grandfather of Christopher, Jennifer, Brian, Nicole, Steve, Amelia and Jonah, and great grandfather of Zadie Sunnen, Milo Sunnen, Kerry Connelly, and Nathaniel Sunnen. Dear stepbrother of David West of Florida. Predeceased by his sister Marjorie Storey, brother Eugene Sunnen, and stepsister Patricia West Higgs. Augie served overseas with the U.S. Navy as a Lieutenant j.g. during the Second World War. He was the proud owner of Sunnen Products Ltd. in Chatham, now Guspro Inc. operated now by his son Paul with grandsons Brian and Steve, founded as a family business in 1932. He was the Executive Vice President of Sunnen Products of St. Louis from 1975-1980. August had been recognized for his community service by the Governor-General, and he was a long-time member of St. Andrew’s United Church, and had received a 35 year service Award from the Rotary Club of Chatham. Augie served on the board of the YMCA and the CKHA. Family and friends are invited to the ALEXANDER & HOULE FUNERAL HOME, 245 Wellington West, Chatham, 519-352-2710 on Friday April 28th with visiting from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral service will be conducted from St. Andrew’s United Church, 85 William St. South, Chatham, on Saturday April 29th at 11 a.m. with Gabriella Cutler officiating. Cremation to follow with a private family interment to take place at Maple Leaf Cemetery, Chatham. Friends planning an expression of remembrance are asked to consider C-K Hospice Foundation, Rotary Club of Chatham, and Chatham-Kent Family YMCA Foundation.
