Cherished father of Carol (Bob) Fairs, Steve (Karen) Chamko, Mike (Sherry) Chamko, Janet Verkaik, Suzanne Chamko and Sally Chamko. Former spouse of Sylvina Morneau. Pre deceased by parents Anna and Michael Chamko. Loving Grandfather of Bob (Denise) Fairs, Mike Fairs, Chris (Jennifer) Chamko, Jennifer (Jim) DiCaro, Stacey (Peter) Kelenjian, Stephanie Lamont, Michael Chamko, Ryan (Jen) Verkaik, Lindsey Verkaik, Rachel Verkaik, Samantha Verkaik, Haley Verkaik and great grandfather of sixteen. Predeceased by sister Julia Majernick and her husband Joseph Majernick, and by sister Gizela Cerget and her husband Julius Cerget. He will be missed by many nieces, nephews and dear friends. WWII Veteran- enlisted with the Essex Scottish in April 1940. Went overseas in July 1940 until seriously wounded in October 1944. After recovery he returned home. He played football for the Windsor Rockets (O.R.F.U), the Montreal Alouettes (CFL) and Hamilton Tiger Cats (CFL). In 1947 he earned the John Kozak trophy as MVP and he was also chosen All-Canadian middle-wing in the annual Canadian Press football poll. Retired from the Windsor Utilities Commission and former member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 578. If you so desire, donations to Hospice Windsor or Windsor Veteran’s Memorial Service Committee would be appreciated by the family. Visitation Sunday 3-5pm and 7-9pm.
