It is with great sadness that the family of Louie Chakmak announces his passing on February 14th at the age of 85. Much loved and respected father of Darlene (Ray Chasten) and Linda (David Garlick). Dearest Papa of Lindsay Elizabeth Chasten and Jeffrey Louis Chasten. Predeceased by parents Jelena and Radivoj Chakmak, and sisters Alexandra (Budisavljevic), Mary (Young) and Bozana (Manojlovich). Survived by brother-in-law Milan Budisavljevic and nieces and nephews. Louie was born in Tovariševo, Ba?ka, Yugoslavia and immigrated to Canada in 1938 at the age of 9. A man of innate engineering talent and no formal education, he joined Chrysler Canada in 1956. He was involved in the historic and successful launches of the Chrysler Cordoba and North America’s first minivan, the T115. He spent it in dedication to family and work, and to his principles of tolerance and humility. Thanks to niece Gordana for support and to Gisèle for guidance. Thanks to the nurses and staff of 3 North Palliative Care, Emara Centre, Hotel-Dieu Grace Healthcare for their care and compassion over the last 4 1/2 months. Cremation has taken place.
