January 31, 1932 – December 19, 2013

It is with great sadness that the family of Elizabeth (Liz) Chakmak announce her passing at the age of 81, peacefully with her family at her side. Beloved wife of 62 years to Louie Chakmak. Much loved mother of Darlene (Ray Chasten) and Linda (David Garlick). Dearest Baba of Lindsay Chasten and Jeffrey Chasten. Beloved sister of Frank (Joan) Geml. Predeceased by parents Peter and Anna Geml, and brother Wilhelm. Liz immigrated to Canada from Molidorf, a small village in Banat, Yugoslavia at the age of 7. In her small kitchen, she prepared some of the finest food in Windsor, which she happily shared with others. Her gifts of Christmas cookie collections were legendary. She revelled in her garden and her grandchildren, and her happiest times were sharing her love of nature with family. Many thanks to her cousin Mary, nieces Maria and Gordana and her dear friend Martha for their support during her illness and to Gisele for her guidance and help. Thanks, also, to the nurses and staff of 3 South Palliative Care, Emara Centre, Hotel-Dieu Grace Healthcare for their care and compassion over the last three months. If you so desire donations to the Windsor Regional Hospital Foundation; 3 South Palliative Care Unit – Emara Centre; or the Ontario SPCA – Kent County Branch would be appreciated by the family. Cremation services were held. Visiting Friday 3-5 and 7-9pm. Friends are invited to join the family Saturday at 10:30am followed by a Memorial Service at 11:30am at Families First 1065 Lauzon Road, East Windsor 519-969-5841.
