It is with the saddest of hearts that the family of William John Carpenter “Jack” announces his passing on Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at the age of 83. He is survived by his wife Jeannine, with whom he would have celebrated 60 years of marriage this December. Jack was a loving and generous father to Bill Carpenter (Julie), Sherry Carpenter, all from Petrolia, and David Carpenter (Diane) of Sarnia. Jack was adored by his grandchildren John Carpenter (Jen), Summer Carpenter (Brandan), Ashley Carpenter (Rich), Mitchell Carpenter (Chynna), Cameron Carpenter (Miranda) and Paul Carpenter. Step-grandpa to Aaron Rochon (Cait). Jack was a great-grandpa to Jessica (Nick), his namesake Jack, Jedidiah, Johnny, and step-great-grandpa to Blake and Alexander. Jack is also survived by his brother and sister in-law Ron and Monique Rochon, and several nieces and nephews that loved their Uncle Jack. Jack was pre-deceased by his parents Jack and Mary Carpenter; his sister that he adored, Jean Knight; his father and mother in-law Fred and Yvonne Rochon; his brother and sister in-law Leo and Georgette Rochon, Marcel and Joyce Rochon, Fern Rochon, and Lou and Clayt McLean. Jack was born in Sarnia on July 11, 1931. He became a life-long member of Iron Workers Local 700 in 1951. Jack had a passion for his work, was a mentor to many and proud to be a member of Local 700. Jack always enjoyed a good game of golf, especially in North Carolina and the Bahamas. In his retirement, Jack could always be found at Fred’s, hanging with the guys, fixing anything with a motor, building who knows what, playing cards, having fish frys, and enjoying a cold one. He truly enjoyed his time at the garage. Jack will be forever missed by everyone who knew him. Upon Jack’s request, there will be no funeral services. Cremation has taken place. There will be a celebration of Jack’s life on October 26, 2014, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Bluewater Hall, 2505 London Line, Sarnia.In lieu of flowers, sympathy may be expressed through donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the charity of your choice would be appreciated (cheques only at the funeral home please).
