BYWAY, J. Walter, of St. Thomas, passed away peacefully at the St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital on Monday, October 1, 2012, in his 96th year.  Husband of Phyllis (nee Johnson) Byway.  Father of Linda Dowdall (Robert) of St. Thomas, Nancy Byway of Edmonton, AB, Penny Byway of St. Thomas, John Byway (Erika) of Kanata, and the late David Byway (1987).  Brother of Maxine Wells (late Robert).  Uncle of Karla Nesbitt.  Also survived by several grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and  many nieces and nephews.  Born in St. Thomas, ON, April 21, 1917, he was the son of the late Harry and Edna (nee McQuire) Byway.  Walter was a retired Canada Post clerk.  During the Second World War, he served in Canada with the RCAF as a wireless instructor.  He was a former member of Grace United Church, St. Thomas.  In keeping with Walter’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no public visitation or funeral service.  Private interment of his cremated remains will be made in St. George’s Cemetery, Hyde Park.  Memorial donations to the C.N.I.B. or  London Health Sciences Foundation Re: London Regional Cancer Centre gratefully acknowledged.  Arrangements entrusted to the Sifton Funeral Home, 118 Wellington St., St. Thomas (519-631-1160).
