Born on November 21, 1957, in Burks Falls, ON, to Bill and Edie Burke. Heather Marie Burke passed away at Toronto General Hospital on her 55th birthday, surrounded by family and loved ones as she peacefully went to her forever rest. She had been lucky enough to receive a double lung transplant in August 2011, however, the severity of the surgery and the complications that followed took its toll on her body, and her battle came to an end. Always a fighter, never giving up and staying positive were mottos Heather lived by. Her occupation was parenthood, and though she struggled at times with the weight of the world on her shoulders, she would say for certain that her greatest accomplishment were her children. Heather touched many people throughout her short life, often brazen and never without an opinion, she was bold and fearless right until the end. She is survived by her mother and father. Dear sister to Michael, Andrew, Lila and the late James. Loved spouse to Luke Van Praet and daughter-in-law of Frank and Melody Van Praet. Cherished mother to Chantelle, James, Lindsay, Brandon, Adam, Daniel, Mark and Lucas. Loving grandmother to Oliver, Morgan, Stella, Joesph, Jazzlyn, Marley, Sage, Calebe, Bella, Brooklynn, Sparrow and expecting Willa Marie. A private family service will be held. Arrangements entrusted to SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 1576 London Line, Sarnia. Heather was a strong advocate for organ donation as this is what gave her a second chance at life. As a family we strongly urge all of those who have not thought about organ donation to give the gift of life and sign up as a donor.
