BURGER: Petrus Johannes Maria “Peter” of Waterdown, formerly of Campbellville
Peacefully at Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital in Burlington, Ontario on March 18, 2013. Pre-deceased (November 1, 2012) by Gerarda, his devoted wife of 66 years, and by their daughter Elsa in 1971. He lived with Gerarda in the Campbellville area for over forty years until 2012 when they moved to live with their daughter, Rosemary and her family in Waterdown, Ontario. Born in Tuitjenhorn, Netherlands on February 23rd, 1923. He served in the Royal Dutch Infantry during World War II and then in Indonesia. With Gerarda and their three young children he immigrated to Vancouver, Canada in 1952. He was Senior Vice-President of Scott’s Hospitality for many years and was commissioned a Kentucky Colonel in 1972. After his retirement from Scott’s, he and Gerarda owned and operated the KFC store in Waterdown. Survived by his sister, Joop Nota in Tuitjenhorn. Much loved father of John (Gillian), Matthew (Karen), Paul (Carla) and Rosemary Hawkrigg (Michael). Dear Opa of Mark (Erin), Kevin (Gloria), Rik (Erin), Ted (Sonda), Elizabeth (Matthew), Courtney (Geoffrey), Allison and James. Great Opa to Ainsley, Jaydon, Ella, Eli, Mattijs, Thibaud, and Katherine.
Friends may visit with the family at KITCHING, STEEPE & LUDWIG FUNERAL HOME, 146 Mill St. N., Waterdown on Friday evening from 6-9 pm where the Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, March 23rd at 12:00 noon. Reception to follow at the funeral home. Private family internment to be held at a later date. Special thanks to all the devoted medical staff at Joseph Brant. We are grateful to Dr. Scholtens of the Carlisle Medical Centre and to Dr. Love in Burlington for their care and compassion over many years. Donations to Princess Margaret Hospital or the Canadian Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated.
