It is with profound sadness and deeply heavy hearts the family of Lucienne “Lucy” Burd announce her very sudden but peaceful passing on Friday, September 19, 2014, at the young age of 67. Many people say there is nothing like a mother’s love, and they are right. Her children knew her to be not only the best mother and friend, but Lucy’s friends and extended family knew her as nothing less than an outstanding person who showed exceptional love to everyone she came in contact with. She was caring and beautiful inside and out. Lucy loved and embraced life, her family, and her friends. Her notion of family wasn’t limited to those who shared her blood, it was her firm belief that it is not flesh and blood but the heart which makes us come together. Loving and treasured, Lucy’s all too soon passing shall be looked upon only as moving on to another place, the next chapter of what’s nothing less than an incredible journey on the road of life, where she’ll remain close and walk among us in our hearts. She was an unwavering inspiration and pillar of hope, strength and love to her children who are left in this world with memories that shall carry them forward and a sense of humility and optimism that has helped shape who they are for an entire lifetime. She was predeceased by her loving parents Emil and Olga Vanteilcke in 1975, both of whom were also taken far too early at the ages of 53 and 51 respectively. She leaves her loving memories to be cherished by her devoted children; her oldest son Ted Bleackley; her very loving son Joe Burd; and her beautiful daughter with whom she was always close, Katherine Featherstone; treasured by Codi Devlugt; adoring grandchildren Morgan, Summer and Dakota Featherstone, Brandon Burd, Jesse Bleackley, and Piper Burd. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Lucy’s life was held at Bluewater Baptist Church, 1256 Wellington St., Sarnia, on Thursday, September 25, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. Sympathy may be expressed through donations to the Salvation Army (cheques only at the funeral home please).
