Peacefully at Extendicare, Cobourg on Saturday, July 14, 2012 at age 91. Beloved husband of the late Virginia Irene (nee Grant). Loving father to the late Roger Brown, Randy Brown (Meg), and Heather Thompson (Thomas). Ken will be missed by his grandchildren Cleo Brown, Jennifer Thompson (Dan Peplinski), and Christopher Thompson (Christina).  They loved the many years of camping and canoeing with Grampy.  Ken will also be missed by his great-grandchildren Ewan and Ethan Thompson, and Kylie Peplinski.  Dear brother to the late Molly, James (the late Myrtle), and Joan Gibson (the late George) of Scotland.  Ken taught English at the Cobourg District Institute East, then moved on to spend 27 years at CDCI West. During his tenure he produced and directed a play or musical annually, earning tributes and awards in the Annual Drama Festival. Ken was also concerned with, and worked to preserve, the arts, environment and heritage of his adopted community by his long time support of the Northumberland Orchestra Society; A board member of the committee that worked to preserve and restore Victoria Hall; Helped form the Cobourg Heritage Association which was instrumental in enlarging Victoria Park;  Instrumental in preventing  the widening of Division St. Into four lanes ; He was President of the Harbour Development Committee and served six years as a board member of the United Way.  Ken loved the out of doors, whether it was cross country skiing in Northumberland Forest, white water canoe trips , camping with Virginia and grandchildren or a two week trek down the Nahanni River in the Northwest Territories.  Friends will be received on Friday, July 20, 2012 from 12 pm until the time of the memorial service to be held at 1 pm in the Chapel of St. Paul at St. Peter’s Anglican Church. Those wishing to may make donations to the Parkinson’s Society or the Roger Brown Bursary (cheques made payable to St. Peter’s Church). Condolences received at
