One of his most successful endeavours was the purchase in 1962 of his lumber company « Portelance Lumber » situated in Hanmer. Once retired, he enjoyed moose hunting and loved spending his winters in Florida where he had joined the « Hollywood Shuffleboard Club » and was recognised as an excellent player.
