Lena Mildred Bowman (nee Sheldon) passed away peacefully at Barrhaven Manor, Ottawa. She was the beloved wife of the late Evan Bowman (1981) and dear mother of Mary Jane (Paul) Wilker of Ottawa and John (Marilyn) Bowman of Vancouver. She was loving grandmother to Jonathan and Bowman Wilker and Erin and Ryan Bowman and great grandmother of eight. Predeceased by sister Louise Harris and brothers Johnson and Wilfred Sheldon. She will be lovingly remembered by her nieces and nephews. Mildred was an active volunteer all her life for many Leamington organizations including the United Church Women, the Canadian Cancer Society, the Salvation Army Thrift Store and Brown Owl for the United Church Brownies. In 2001, the International Year of the Volunteers, she was recognized by the Government of Canada for outstanding service and contribution as a volunteer and in 2007 received the Leamington and Mersea Historical Society Heritage and Historic certificate of Merit. Visiting at the Reid Funeral Home & Reception Centre, 14 Russell Street, Leamington (519-326-2631) Saturday, June 2, 2012 from 10 a.m. until time of funeral service to celebrate Mildred’s life at 11 a.m. Linda Blair officiating.
