Surrounded by the love of his family Al passed away in his 98th year at St. Joseph’s hospital, Hamilton on Saturday, December 1, 2012. He has joined his beloved wife of 63 years, Margaret (Cope) who predeceased him on October 29, 2006. He leaves behind his son Bob Book (Donna) of Chatham and his two daughters Sharon Book of Waterdown and Nancy Needham (Mike) of Burlington and six grandsons Wayne Crawford of Waterdown, Mark Needham (Lorie) of Waterloo, Grant Uuldriks (Lisa) of Lindsay, Chris Needham (Michelle) of Burlington, Kevin Needham (Jessica) of Burlington, Iowa and Andrew Needham of Sudbury, Lovingly remembered by his great grand children, Kayden, Benjamin, Carter, Nathan, Lauren and Kayson Needham and Alanna Uuldriks. Al worked as a tool and die maker for Kennametal tools prior to his retirement in 1978. He was a Verteran of the Second World War, a legion lifetime member and co-originator of the Waterdown 551 fiddlers. Also, an avid fisherman/hunter and founding member of the Waterdown Rod and Gun Club, a Boy Scout Leader, and a safe gun handling instructor. He is survived by his brother Albert and his sister Mary Ionson. Al was the son of Frank and Emma Book. He was predeceased by his brothers George, Harry, Lloyd, Donald, Gordon and Earl and his sisters Marguerite, Violet, Ruby, Ruth and Vera. He is survived by many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at KITCHING, STEEPE & LUDWIG FUNERAL HOME, 146 Mill St. N., Waterdown on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at ST. JAMES UNITED CHURCH, 306 Parkside Dr., on Wednesday, December 5, 2012 at 11 a.m. Reception to follow. Private interment White Chapel Memorial Gardens.
