Our mother, Jane Boersma (nee VanderWal) passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, June 4, 2013, at the age of 102. She lived a long rich life. We are grateful for the blessing she was to all of us in her family as well as the many people whose lives she touched. Jane was predeceased by her husband William (1994). She will leave a void in the family that loved her: son Bill Boersma, daughter Vicky and Philip Beiboer, daughter Bernice Van Ruitenburg, son Mel and Anita Boersma, son Ymko and Maggie Boersma. In addition she always shared her love and joy with seventeen grandchildren and fourteen (and growing) great grandchildren. There is no need to dwell on sadness; we can celebrate her life. All who knew her well will remember her unflinchingly cheerful manner, her abiding interest in people, and her concern for others; all of this was rooted in an unshakable faith in Jesus Christ as her Master and Guide. Born in Kortehemmen, Friesland, the Netherlands in 1910, she witnessed a panorama of history from World War I, the Great Depression, World War II, through post war immigration in 1958. She was part of that ‘greatest generation’ – people who were prepared to sacrifice for the good of others. She lived the scriptures she loved: “God is our refuge and strength; an ever-present help in trouble.” Visitors will be received on Friday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the WYOMING CHAPEL, 650 Broadway St., Wyoming. A service celebrating Jane’s life will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2013 at 11:30 a.m. at the WYOMING CHRISTIAN REFORMED CHURCH, Confederation Line, Wyoming. Interment in Wyoming Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be made by cheque to John Knox Christian School (www.wyomingjkcs.com). Memories, pictures, and condolences may be shared online at www.needhamjay.com.
