After a long and courageous battle with Acute Myloid Leukemia, Desmond died peacefully in the comfort of his home and surrounded by family on October 30, 2012, in his 80th year.
Beloved husband of Patricia Blacquiere (nee McWain). Loving father of Michele (deceased), Nicole, Misha and Mike (Kelly). Cherished grandfather of Andrew, Christopher, Michael, Brodie, Brock and London. Dear brother of Rosemarie (the late Bill), the late Claude and Bernice, Urie (Theresa), Elva (Don), Charles (Ivy), Sheila, Bonita (Marv), the late Richard and the late Greg.
Desmond was a thoughtful man who always put the welfare of others before himself. He retired after a lengthy career with the Toronto Postal Service and was an avid runner, competing in marathons until his 67th year. Des could often be seen power walking through Cobourg, even as the cruel realities of AML overtook his body. He was a fighter right to the end.
The family is grateful to the wonderful care provided by Dr. J.R. Beck and the nurses at the Chemotherapy Unit and also the compassionate care of Dr. D. Moorsom and the palliative care nurses of Northumberland Hills Hospital Their professionalism and kindness helped us navigate through the devastating illness.
Cremation has taken place and Des is now entrusted to Patricia; as it was in life, they will always be together. A Celebration of Life is being planned for February. If desired, donations may be made to Northumberland Hills Hospital Chemotherapy Unit. Condolences received at www.MacCoubrey.com.
The world has lost a true gentleman. Desmond may be gone but he will live forever in our hearts.
