Orval Becker, of RR #1 Elmwood, passed away with his family by his side at Hannah-Walker Place, Owen Sound on Monday, November 10, 2014. He was 84.
Born in Bentinck Township to the late Andrew and Edna (nee Sachs) Becker on February 13, 1930. Orval retired from farming and was a very gifted antique car restorationist, he enjoyed singing and a member of the Church Quartet, sang in the church choir and was a former member of the Hanover Men’s Barbershoppers. He was an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church serving on church council and as a sunday school teacher for many years. Spending time with organizations close to his heart, he was a director with the Co-op, Credit Union, past director with the Historical Automobile Society of Canada and he held a Projectionist License. Orval was very active in his community and will be missed greatly.
Survived by loving wife of 60 years Marion (nee Monk) Becker ofRR #1 Elmwood, daughter Bonnie Becker Messerschmidt (Jim) of RR#1 Elmwood, son Michael (Melissa) Becker of RR#1 Elmwood, grandchildren Joy and Alexander Messerschmidt, Breanna, Nicholas, Emma, Aleah and Jacob Becker and greatgranddaughter Morgan. Also survived by his brother Delton (Helen) Becker of RR#1 Elmwood, sister Dorothy Dickison of Burlington, sister-in-law Marjorie Monk of Hanover and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his son in infancy Terri John Becker.
Visitation will be held at Mighton Funeral Home, Hanover, on Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, November 13, 2014 at 2:00 pm, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Elmwood. Rev. Sheilah Fletch officiating and Rev. Hannes Aasa assisting. Interment in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery, Elmwood.
