With great sorrow, the family of Dr. Paul Thomas Begley announces his passing on November 20th at the age of 68, following a six-month battle with brain cancer. Beloved husband of more than 44 years to Marilyn and cherished father to Conor (Lyn), Jeffrey (Susan), and Laura (Jon). Dear grandfather to Anne and Charlie. Brother to Dan Begley (Kay) and Christine Wiggins (Doug) and brother-in-law to Sandra Johnston (Tom) and Rev. Robert Love. Uncle to eight nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, Leo and Lucille Begley. Paul will be missed by his colleagues and former students at the University of Toronto, Penn State University, and Nipissing University, and by his many friends around the world. Paul will be remembered for his devotion as a husband, father, and grandfather, his leadership in the field of education, and his love of the outdoors. His family thanks the staff at St. Michael’s Hospital, the Royal Victoria Hospital, Hospice Simcoe, and Paul’s family physicians, Dr. C. Gall and Dr. T. Stanford. Visitation will be held at Adams Funeral Home (445 St. Vincent Street, Barrie) on Saturday, November 25th, 2017 from 9:30am to 11:00am, followed by a celebration of life at 11:00am in the funeral home chapel. Passed peacefully on Sunday November 19, 2017 at the Campbell House Hospice in Collingwood at the age of 86. Beloved husband of Olive Kanat (Barker) for 64 years. DOROTHY MARY CAVELL SCRUTON (NEE BAKER) March 3, 1918 – October 23, 2017   This was a long life fortified by faith and strengthened by a prevailing perspective of gratitude. Dorothy defined her life by the blessings she had been afforded and took little note of those that had eluded her. Those who knew Dorothy were blessed by her kindness, generosity and her wry sense of humour. She was predeceased by her husband William Scruton and subsequently by companion Edward Hardacre.  She is survived by sons William, Richard & Edward. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Nicole, Lauren, Laurie-Dawn, Louise and Ted. Born and raised in Cookstown, Dorothy was the youngest of nine children to the late William James Baker and the late Edith Wesson.  She was predeceased by her brothers Jack, George, Norman (Alice Harris) & Frank – by her sisters Betty, Kathleen, Frances (Percy Heal) & Madge (Douglas Hedger) – and by favoured niece Mary Lou (Dick Weistra). Peter Welles, loving husband, father and grandfather passed away unexpectedly on Nov 15, 2017.  Originally from Friesland, The Netherlands, made Canada his home in 1953.  Resident of Guelph, Orillia,  and moved to Barrie in 1970 with his family.
Loving husband to Joanne (nee Obee) for 55years. Extraordinary father to Scott (Cindy) and Kelly. Proud Poppa Pete to Andrew, Patrick, Bryce and Cailey.  Son of the late Leendert and Johanne Welles.    Brother of Kathleen (late Leo) and the late Eddy.
Peter was a long-time employee of the Simcoe County Board of Education.
Peter was involved with St. George’s Anglican Church  and was a frequent blood donor with the Canadian Red Cross.  During his retirement years, volunteered as a driver for Meals on Wheels.  When needed, Peter was there to help.
Memorial service to be held at St. George’s Anglican Church, Burton Ave and Granville St, on Thursday, November 23, 2017 – visitation between 12:00pm until time of service at 1:00pm.  Reception to follow.

Isabel passed away peacefully in her 99th year on Saturday, November 4, 2017. Daughter of the late Alfred and Mabel Pinnell. Wife of the late Robert “Bob” McFalls for almost 60 years. Mother of the late Lyn McFalls, Linda Gibb (Gordon) and Kim Posno (Dennis). Grandmother of Gordie (Linda), Jennifer (Peter), Arnie (Elena), Shannon (Jason), Shawn and Denny (Beth). Great-grandmother of Blake, Alissa, Kyle, Daniel, Brooke, Kirby, Estella, Cameron, Patrick, Riley, Lucas, Gavyn, Oliver, Harrison and Benjamin. Sister of the late Dorothy McHarg (David) and the late Alfred Pinnell (Shirley). Sister-in-law of the late Ida and Clare Hodgins, the late Keith and Muriel McFalls, and Donald and Maxine Cromarty. Special Mom to Betty Pettigrew. Remembered by many nieces and nephews and dear friends. Isabel lived in London for 96 years and moved to Barrie to live with her daughter Kim and son-in-law Dennis when failing health prevented her from living independently. Special thanks are expressed to the countless PSWs in London and Barrie who cared for her; to Dr. Ganesh Persaud in London and to Dr. Joe Bailey in Barrie for his kindness and loving attention at the end of her life. Isabel excelled in school and at 17 began her working days at London Life until her marriage in 1940. Through the years Isabel enjoyed golf at the Highland Country Club, the fellowship of the UCW at Wesley-Knox United Church, volunteering at Victoria Hospital and The Boys and Girls Club, playing cards with her circle of friends, knitting and sewing, working briefly at the Polka Dot Shop, and spending many winters in Florida with her husband Bob at the home of her daughter Linda and son-in-law Gordon. But more than anything it was her family that mattered. They were the greatest source of pride and joy in her life. Edward (Ted) Howard, loving husband of the late Wilma (Dyer) both of Toronto, passed away peacefully on October 23, 2017 at Victoria Manor in Lindsay, Ontario. Ted had an enormous love of family. He enjoyed golfing, bowling and tennis, had a keen interest in history and was an avid reader. Ted lived life to the fullest, making a positive impact on everyone in his life. Intelligence, determination and a wonderful sense of humour were his gifts which he used generously to touch everyone’s hearts. He will be missed. Loving father of Terry (the late Bonnie nee Thornhill), Rachel (Michael B.) and Lisa (Michael F.) and the late Maureen. Special grandpa of Kent, Daphne, Tracey, Erin, Mikaela and Melissa. Lovingly remembered by his great grandchildren Zachary, Cassandra and Kallista; Thomas and Daniel; Rayden and Declan. Predeceased by his parents Edward and Eileen (Palliser) Howard, and his brother Todd. Fondly remembered by niece Jean and nephew Alan and their families. In keeping with Ted’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held at a future date to be announced. Private Interment at Pine Hills Cemetery. Brunne, Chris, 54 – Passed peacefully on October 22, 2017 in Leaskdale, ON, after a hard fought battle with cancer. He was born on July 11th 1963 in Uxbridge, ON to Norm and Betty Brunne and grew up with his siblings: Barb, Vicki and Dave. In 1988 he married Laura Shepherd and together they raised their 3 children Darren, Nicole, and Amanda. Chris worked as a General Contractor in the Uxbridge area for many years while following his true passion for music, golf and hockey in the evenings and weekends. Yuri of Wasaga Beach, beloved husband of Yana for over 32 years, loving father of Karina and Erika, caring son of Veronika, and dear brother to Alexander and his wife, and uncle to their four children. Yuri and Yana are the long time owners of J & J Motel on Main Street in Wasaga Beach. Yuri was a fun loving and kind man who cherished his family and friends, and enjoyed the peacefulness of fishing any time he could. He will be deeply missed. Passed away peacefully on Friday October 20, 2017 surrounded by his family at the General & Marine Hospital, Collingwood in his 80th year.  Stan of Wasaga Beach, beloved husband of Dorothy for 58 years.  Dear father of Joe (Carri) and Lori (Jeff Zelding).  Loving Poppy to Jake, Hannah and Gavin.  Survived by brothers Hughie, Donald and Freddy MacDonald.  Predeceased by brothers John, Charlie and Bobby and sisters Helen and Catherine. Died peacefully on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at the Coleman Care Centre, Barrie in his 96th year. Lloyd of Stayner, beloved husband of Isabel (nee Nobes) for over 72 years. Loving father of Dianne (Robert Wright), Douglas (Lucie), the late Danny and Brenda Lee (Bill Miller). Cherished Papa of six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Predeceased by his three sisters. Lloyd will also be missed by his nieces, nephews, neighbours and friends. Lloyd farmed for many years in Sunnidale Township and was a long time civilian employee of Base Borden. He will be missed. A private family ceremony with interment at Stayner Union Cemetery will be held. If desired, donations to the Alzheimer’s Society would be appreciated by Lloyd’s family. Ellie Taylor, 84 years old, born in 1933, passed peacefully on October 14th with her family by her side. Predeceased by her loving husband of 55 years, Gerry (2011). Loved and cherished by her children Stephen (Michele) of Calgary, Greg (Selene) of Barrie and Kelly (Jamie) of Atlanta, Georgia. Loving grandmother to Caitlin, Taylor, Ted, Grace, William and Sunny (the poodle). Loving great grandmother to Simon. Ellie had room in her heart for anyone she met and was quick to welcome people into her home and her life. Her friends spanned the generations. The family expresses their sincere gratitude to Ellie’s caregivers at Amica for their warm and loving care and assistance. A memorial service will be held on Saturday November 4th at 2pm at Midhurst United Church (Midhurst, Ontario) with visitation at 1pm and a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for a donation to the Canadian Heart and Stroke foundation.

McDEVITT: John Gerald

age 91 of Barrie, Ontario. We, the family of John McDevitt, are saddened to announce his sudden passing which occurred on October 16, 2017. Born in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia he was the last surviving child of the late Charles and Dorothy (nee Morrell) McDevitt. He was predeceased by his brother Lawrence, an infant brother, sisters Mary, Lillian, Catherine as well as his niece, Anne Guinan. He is survived by his devoted wife Carol, daughter Susan (David) Mayers, grandson Wade, who was his reason for living; along with Guinan nieces and nephews in Calgary, St. Augustin Quebec and Truro, Nova Scotia. John left his beloved Yarmouth with his family and moved to Etobicoke when he was transferred by Beecham Canada Ltd. Known as the “Minard’s Linament Man” he brought the formulation from the Minards plant in Yarmouth to Ontario. He retired from Smith Kline Beecham after more than 48 years service. Before leaving Yarmouth, John bowled with a local bowling league and he was a dedicated volunteer firefighter, once saving a llama from a docked and burning circus ship. An enthusiastic gardener, John was also a devoted Toronto Blue Jays fan from the team’s inception. He loved to watch the games regardless of if he was at home or at the family cottage at Sebim Beach in Nova Scotia. He looked forward to travelling back to Yarmouth every summer since relocating to Ontario in 1967, only missing one summer trip due to an unfortunate hospitalization. Visitation will be held at ADAMS FUNERAL HOME (445 St. Vincent Street, Barrie) on Friday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2017 at 11 o’clock a.m. with visitation from 10 a.m. A graveside committal service will occur next summer at the Mountain Cemetery in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia.
