Lorne Barrett (242x250)Barrett- Lorne William lifelong resident of Fingal, passed away on Sunday March 30, 2014, while surrounded by his loving family at the St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital in his 70th year. Beloved husband of Rosemary (VanVelzer) Barrett and loving father of Brian Barrett of Fingal and Paula and her husband Steve Willand of Union. Proud grandfather of Amanda, Stephanie (friend Matt) and Christopher Barrett, Ryan Wiebe, Dale (Alexandra), Darren (Missy) and Dean Willand. Great grandfather of Hunter, Paisley, Triton, Carter and Autumn. Brother of Jack (Catherine) Barrett of Fingal and Nadyne (friend Al) of London. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Lorne was born December 21, 1944 in St. Thomas, the son of the late Jack and Gladys (Beer) Barrett. Lorne was very active in his younger years playing hockey and football with the St. Thomas Jay Hawks. He was a retired dispatcher with the St. Thomas City Police and was also a barber for a number of years in St. Thomas and area. Lorne formerly umpired and coached men’s fastball. He was a member of the Ducks Unlimited and the Shedden Oddfellows. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and the outdoors. He and Rosemary are avid bingo players.

A celebration of Lorne’s life will take place at the Shedden Keystone Complex (35921 Talbot Line, Shedden)  on Sunday April 6th, 2014 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Cremation has taken place and his ashes are to be interred privately at the Fingal Cemetery. Donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice. Williams Funeral Home 45 Elgin St., St. Thomas entrusted with the arrangements.
