Peacefully with his family at his side on May 21, 2012 at Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital in his 88th year. Beloved and caring husband of Doris Elizabeth (nee Gilvear) for 66 years. Devoted and loving father of Bill and Alanna Barlow, Greg and Kerri Barlow, Jacqueline and Walter Voortman and Sharon and Jim Brush. Proud Papa to grandchildren Shari (Justin), Jason (Jessica), Lisa, Tammi (Mike), Kyle (Aleisha), Karly, Tim, Francine (Claudiu), and his right hand man Nick. Adoring great-grandfather of 10. Dear brother of Marie Kolar and predeceased by Hughey Barlow and Irene Boyd. Brother-in-law to Bill and Joan Gilvear and uncle to many loving nieces and nephews. Jack was born in Hamilton where he met his wife Doris. He served in the Royal Canadian Navy from 1944 to 1946, was a hardworking Stelco and Imperial Tobacco machinist for over 35 years, and above all was a family man who spent summers enjoying his cottage and being surrounded by his children and grandchildren and teaching them life’s lessons at “this old house”.

“To us he has not gone away

Nor has he travelled far.

Just entered God’s Eternal Home

And left the gates ajar.”

God bless until we meet again.

In following his wishes, a private cremation has taken place. If desired, donations to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
