Baker, Monica  (nee Huismans)

 

Loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, friend and neighbour, passed away peacefully at home on 16 October 2012 after a courageous, five year battle with ovarian cancer. Beloved wife and best friend of Darren Baker. Loving mother of Alexandre and Adriana. Daughter of Carolina Huismans (the late Martin Huismans). Sister to Siena French (David), Betsy Villeneuve (Jean), Willie and Peter(Kim).  Cherished Aunt of Andrew (Stacey), Sean (Julie), Robin, Ann (Jason), Julie (Tylor), Daniel (Aleisha), Michel, Jonathon, Chelsea, Martin, Carlina, Fiona, Charlotte and Max.  Great Aunt to Kaitlyn, Abigail, Tristan, Emma, Jérémy and Amelia. Monica had an amazing propensity for friendship, hope, love, kindness and generosity, a loving smile and a comforting integrity.  A truly decent, strong and thoughtful woman, she was always welcoming and supportive, with a sense of humour that helped everyone.  She will be sadly missed by her family and many friends in Ottawa and around the globe. Visitation at Heritage Funeral Home, 2871 St. Joseph Blvd., Orleans, on Friday 19 October 2012 from 5 – 9 PM. A funeral service will be held at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal, 17 First Avenue, Russell on Saturday, 20 October 2012 at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in her memory to The Ottawa Hospital (Gyneoncology), Princess Margaret Hospital (Ontario Cancer Institute), Ovarian Cancer Canada or The Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation, as these would be greatly appreciated by her and her family.
