Tom0000001ABABCOCK:  Gerald Ellwood age 86 of Petrolia formerly of Dresden went home to be with his Saviour on Thursday, August 28, 2014 at Fiddick’s Nursing Home, Petrolia. He was born in Chatham Township son of the late Alvin and Pearl (Law) Babcock. Gerald was a member of the Free Methodist Church in Canada and former pastor of several FM churches, most recently of Charlemont Free Methodist Church, Wallaceburg. His wife Helen (Childs) Babcock predeceased 2013. He will be missed by his loving children: James Babcock (Yvonne) of Bothwell  & his late wife Barbara, Carolyn Cornish (Bill) of Wallaceburg, Norma Langstaff of Wallaceburg, Catherine Langstaff (Bruce) of Tupperville, Janice Smith (Randy) of Wallaceburg; 15 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren; his brother Lyle Babcock (late Ruth) of Illinois. He is predeceased by three infant brothers, one grandchild Kimberly Cornish and daughter-in-law Barbara Babcock. Visitors will be received at the Thomas L. DeBurger Funeral Home, 620 Cross Street, Dresden on Sunday 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be conducted from the Dresden Community Church, Hwy. 21 South, on Monday, September 1, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Raymond Babcock and Rev. Ron Bartolo officiating. Interment in Dresden Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made by cheque to Maple Grove Christian Retreat Centre, Alzheimer Society, The Jonathan Daniel Stone Fund c/o Community Living Chatham-Kent, or charity of choice.
