Lucier, “Betty” Mary Elizabeth Ann

Posted by on August 5, 2017

It is with indescribable sadness that we announce the passing of Betty, an outstanding member of our family on July 31, 2017 in the comfort of her own home. Betty was the cherished wife of the late Oscar (1974) and leaves his daughter Jacqueline (Erwin) Parent of Kitchener and her sons, Richard (Daniele) of Quebec, Michael (Anne) of Kitchener and Rev. Larry Parent of Kitchener and grandchildren, Mathieu, Rosalie, Virginia, Olivier of Quebec, and Melissa of Kitchener. Betty was dearest first born of seven children to Mary (nee: Barry, 1984) and Ferdine (1944) who were farmers in Sandwich East. She grew up there, and at a young age began riding the Greyhound bus to town for piano lessons. Betty was interested in all aspects of life, which included travel, gardening, and lived at the lake where she loved to watch the sunrise, sunset, freighters and small animals that roamed about. Reading the daily paper was a priority which she followed up by sending the cartoons to friends. Her spirit radiated joy and a zest for life, especially for the little things. Her commitment to recycling and care of the earth was religious. She loved to tell stories of old Detroit and her visits there. She fondly recalled childhood memories of wandering around the farm with her grandfather and oldest brother, where they went and who they saw. At the age of twenty one her father died unexpectedly so she generously stepped forward to assist. Oscar taught her to golf and she followed Sunday golf games on TV until a week ago. In her kitchen, she kept numerous reference books, had a great love of history, business and politics. Until recently, each week she made muffins, banana cupcakes, or pies and took pleasure in giving it all away to “the dear neighbour,” whoever that might be at the moment. She lived in awe at the mystery of Divine presence around and within her while feeling enormous gratitude and blessings. Betty was dearly loved by her siblings, Francis (1996) (Kathleen, 2016), Peter (2009) (Catherine, 1998), Donald (Pat) of Windsor, and sisters Mary (London), Mabel and Patricia (Windsor) members of the Sisters of St. Joseph in Canada. She will be greatly missed by many whose lives she quietly touched, especially many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, friends and neighbours. Kindly join Betty’s family for memorial visitation at WINDSOR CHAPEL (Banwell Chapel), 11677 Tecumseh Road, East, 519-253-7234, on Thursday, August 3, 2017 from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm and from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm. In the spirit of celebration for Betty’s life, a memorial mass will take place at St. Anne’s Parish, 12233 Tecumseh Road, East, on Friday, August 4, 2017 at 11:30 am with a short visitation beginning at 11:00 am. Cremation has taken place, with an interment to take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, and in memory of Betty, a donation toward the charitable works of the Sisters of St. Joseph in Canada, or charity of your choice may be offered. Online condolences and cherished memories may be shared with the family at www.windsorchapel.com
