Peacefully at Grey Bruce Health Services, Southampton, Ontario, on Thursday, July 14th, 2016, in her 96th year. Eileen, loving wife of the late Jim Burns. Beloved Mom of Pam and her husband Gary Craig, Ken and his wife Trudy, Bob and his wife Linda, and Barry and his wife Cathy. Proud Grandma of Cuileann (Rob), Kirsty (Scott), Joanne, Peter, Hannah, Rosemary (Dave), Teresa (Stephen), Melanie (James), Don, Angela (John), Will (Beth), Michael (Jadey), and Steven. Great grandma of Elizabeth, Kael, and Amelia. Dear sister of Marge Cummings. Predeceased by her sisters Margaret and Hilda, her brothers Stewart and Reg, and her infant son Donald.

Friends will be received at the Port Elgin Funeral Home, 510 Mill Street, 519-832-2222, on Monday, July 18th, 2016, from 7-9pm. A funeral service will be held in the chapel on Tuesday, July 19th, 2016, at 11am. Interment Greenhill Cemetery, Lucknow, Ontario.

THORNE: Robert Charles of Port Elgin

???????????????????????????????After a long, brave struggle, Robert Charles Thorne in his 64th year, passed away on Monday, January 20th, 2014, peacefully at home, with his family by his side.  Lumina Marie was blessed to have been his wife for the past 41 years.  Bob was a devoted father to his eight children:  Leanne Seguin & friend Sean Edwards, Colleen Eastwood and husband Scott, Michelle Vance and husband Shawn, Lorri Cook and husband Shawn, all of Port Elgin; Cherie Thorne and friend Danny Pawlenko of Toronto, Tony Thorne & friend Jane Twemlon of Ottawa, Mitch Thorne & fiancé Julia Squire of Kitchener, and Tyronne Thorne and wife Maggie of London.  Seventeen grandchildren and two great grandchildren were honored to have Papa Bob as their grandfather.  Many pleasurable hours were spent with his brothers: Don Thorne (Marion), and Tom Thorne (Joleen) of Port Elgin, and Budd Thorne (Mae) of Fergus.   Predeceased by his father, Jack (Tony) Thorne, and his Mother, Laura (Larry) Thorne.

Bob loved car races and his passion was showing his Javelin.  Bob was a faithful employee at Ziegler Lumber for the past 29 years.  He was also the Superintendant of Waterloo House for 20 years of this time.

A celebration of his memorable life will be held at the Port Elgin Chapel of the TA Brown Funeral Home, 510 Mill Street, 519-832-2222, with  visitation on Wednesday, January 22nd, 2014, from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 pm,  and the Funeral Service on Thursday, January 23rd, 2014,  at  11 am,  with Pastor Bob Johnston officiating.  Honorary pall bearers will be his 3 sons, and 3 brothers.  A reception will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion, Port Elgin, following the service. 

Bob was one of a kind, and will be missed by many, including his wee dog, a constant companion, Angel.

Thank you to the VON nurses for their compassionate care.  To Bob Johnson for his inspiring visits.  To Dr. Qawi for the care she gave to him over the past seven years.  A special thank you to Dr. McCulloch for the devotion and care he gave to our beloved husband, father and brother.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to one of the following:  Canadian Cancer Society, Canadian Diabetes Foundation or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Rest in Peace dear kind soul.  Our time with you was far too short, but we are better people because of it.

Grandfather to Allan Moore, Erin Moore, Bradley Gibbons, Melissa Hyde, Marly Gibbons Sidle (Chris), and Danielle Hyde. Great-grandfather to Aryianna and Tyler Sidle, and Desiree and Willow Moore.  Dear brother of the late Carl Moore, Richard (Norma) Moore of Belgrave, James (Ann) Moore of Windsor, Margaret (late Monte) Milliron  of Detroit, and Deanna (late Frank Moore) of Windsor. Previously of Bruce Township, John was a Market Gardener for many years, and a general “John“ of all trades. He spent each Saturday off at the Owen Sound Farmers Market.

COLBORNE: William G. (Bill) of Port Elgin

ColbornePeacefully, with family by his side, at Saugeen Memorial Hospital, Southampton, on Tuesday, June 11, 2013, in his 88th year. Predeceased in 2009 by his loving wife Betty, and survived by his four children Bob of Bristol, England, Ann and son-in-law Gord MacKay of Port Elgin, David of Windsor and Jen of Toronto. Proud grandfather of Shane, Alex, Steven, David, Brian, Christie, Katie, and Adam. Bill was born in Carleton Place, Ontario on February 18, 1926. He studied mechanical engineering at Queen’s University, graduating in the famous class of Science,1948½. He met Betty while they were both teaching at Queen’s and they were married in 1955. In 1959, with Betty, Bob and Ann in tow, Bill moved to Assumption University in Windsor to contribute to the start-up of a new engineering school that was to become a faculty in the new University of Windsor in 1962, where he remained for the duration of his career. He was Head of Mechanical Engineering, Director of the Industrial Research Institute, and was also active in the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the American Society for Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers. His working life was interspersed by sabbatical leaves to France, Denmark and San Francisco, and in 1988 he and Betty retired to the cottage in Port Elgin, Ontario. They continued to enjoy travelling in their free time, when they weren’t playing tennis or cross-country skiing. Bill’s principal interest was sailing where he was a founding member of the South Port Sailing Club in Windsor.

Peacefully, at his home in Port Elgin, with family by his side, on Saturday, May 25th, 2013, in his 84th year. David is survived by his wife Eleanor (nee Sees), his daughters, Sherryl and Wendy, both of Port Elgin, his brother Lyness of Providence Bay and his sisters Shirley of Walkerton and Mary Lou of New Hamburg. David was the last milkman in the Port Elgin area to deliver by horse and wagon.
