Bain, James

bainjimJames Leslie Bain passed away peacefully on March 20, 2013. Jim was born in the Paisley area in 1928, the third of 4 children, the son of Alexander and Hazel Bain. He spent most of his life on the family farm near Paisley with his loving wife, Phyllis of 59 years.  For many years Jim was part of a band called the Ellengowan Ramblers who played in the area. Jim is survived by his two sons Larry, Don and his wife Helen, and his two grandchildren Brian and Heather. He is also survived by his sister Marilyn Henderson, his sister-in-law Betty Bain, sister and brother-in-law Marj and Garney Campbell, brother-in-law John Webb, and numerous nieces and nephews. Jim is predeceased by his wife Phyllis, his sister Eleanor and  her husband Jack Morrish, and brother Jack Bain .

Friends will be received at the Paisley Chapel of the T.A. Brown Funeral Home, 216 Queen St.S. on Monday, March 25th, 2013 from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at Knox United Church, 399 Goldie St., Paisley, on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Tim Reaburn officiating.

On Tuesday, October 30th, 2012, Dorothy McGill, formerly of Paisley, passed away in her 89th year at the Southampton Care Centre. Wife of the late Clarence. Dorothy is survived by her children Linda (Bill Baux), Diane (Dave Wedge), and Lyle, granddaughter Christy (John Gibner), and sisters Marie Christie, Thelma Duggan and Mary Reed. Predeceased by her parents Charles and Jennie Reed, brothers Norman, Arthur and Bobby, sisters Edna and Isabelle, and grandson Charles.

Friends will be received at the Paisley Chapel of the T.A. Brown Funeral Home, 216 Queen Street South,  on Sunday, November 4th from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 pm. The funeral service will be held in the chapel on Monday at 2:00 pm with Pastor Bob Johnston officiating.  The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #295 Ladies Auxiliary will hold an auxiliary service in the funeral home chapel on Sunday evening  at 6:45 pm. Interment, Chesley Cemetery.

Memorial donations to the Alzheimer’s Society, the Canadian Cancer Society or the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #295 Poppy Fund would be appreciated by the family.

REANY: John Wesley Robert (Bob) of Port Elgin

Suddenly, on Monday, October 8th, 2012 in his 75th year. Bob, beloved husband of Grace (nee Cooke). Dear brother of Bill (Marion), Dennis (Judy), Isabelle (Irwin), and Judy. Brother-in-law of Barry (Rev. Sharon) Cooke, and Marilyn Cooke. Loving Uncle of many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.  Predeceased by his parents Clifford (Tip) and Winnifred Reany and his brother-in-law Denis Cooke.

Born in Noranda, Quebec, Bob began his richly varied career as a body repair man and partner at Fenton’s Garage, and later as a partner with brother Bill in Lakeshore Electronics. His love and passion for flying led to a long and distinguished career as a pilot, flying instructor and aircraft mechanic, with broad experience, including geo-surveys, air ambulance and cargo transfer. He loved instructing and his student pilots were devoted to him. Later, Bob focused on corporate work, and was the chief pilot of Bruceland Air where he handled a variety of demands including supervision, licensing and repair. He was mechanically talented and a creative problem solver.  Bob was active in community arts and services. He was past president of the Port Elgin Rotary Club, and both an elder and choir member in a lifelong association with Port Elgin United Church.  A kind and thoughtful man, he had a strong work ethic and a sound value system, His positive nature, wry sense of humour and boundless energy inspired and delighted all who knew him. He will be sadly missed by his family, friends and the Port Elgin community, along with his wider circle of friends from the flying community.

Friends will be received at the Port Elgin United Church, 840 Bruce Street, on Thursday, October 18th, for visitation from 2 – 4pm and 7 – 9pm. A funeral service will be held at the church on Friday at 11am, with the Rev. Wayne Beamer officiating, reception to follow.
