McClelland, Sharon- Passed away suddenly at her residence on Friday, December 14, 2018, Sharon Annie McClelland (nee Sims) of Norwich at the age of 71. Beloved wife of the late Arthur McClelland who predeceased her in 2011. Fiancé of Wayne Nix of Norwich. Loving mother of Larry Wilks Jr. (Victoria) of Latchford and Juanita Wilks (Tom) of Embro. Grandma of Josee (Dave), Shayla, Mykayla (John), Riley (Sara) and step grandma of Deidre and Bethany (Tyler). Great grandma of Chloe, Ivy, Isaac, Sophie, McKenna, Jaxson, Halen, and Thayer. Sadly missed by her brother Grant Sims of Tillsonburg. Also survived by several nieces, nephews, and extended family. Predeceased by her parents Roy and Anna (nee Burrows) Sims, her sister Eleanor Sims and brother Tom Sims. ARDEN, Sheila – Passed away peacefully at Woodstock Hospital on Wednesday, December 12, 2018, Sheila Arden of Woodstock at the age of 73. She was born on November 2, 1945 in Stockport, England and came to Canada with her family in October of 1953. She was the daughter of the late John and Georgina (nee Farnsworth) Arden. Loving sister of Dorothy Fordham of Woodstock and Geoffrey Mark Arden (Karen Gray) of Woodstock. She will be missed by her nephews Jeremy, Nathan (Lisa), John (Stacy) and Chris (Tracy) and her niece Tammy (DJ) as well as her grandnephews Elliott, Devon, Kaiden, Keean and Desmond, grandnieces Serena, Kira, and Dana. Predeceased by her brother-in-law Brian Fordham (2014). A memorial visitation will be held at Smith-LeRoy Funeral Home, 69 Wellington St. North, Woodstock (519) 537-3611 on Tuesday, December 18, 2018 from 11:00 am – 11:45 am. KOWALSKI, Bronislawa “Bernice” – Passed away on Tuesday, December 11, 2018, at the Woodstock Hospital, Bronislawa Kowalski (nee Adamczyk) at the age of 89. Beloved wife of the late Antoni Kowalski who predeceased her in 1980. Dear mother of Alanea Kowalski (Dave Silcox) of France, and Jolanta Kowalski of Scarborough. Loving grandmother of Logan Kowalski-Smith. Bernice is survived by her sister Helena and nephew Henry and his family. Bronislawa was orphaned by the age of 10 and went through WW2 with her sister when they were just teens. After time in a German internment camp they made their way to England where she met a charming and attractive Polish man and they had two girls Alanea, and Jolanta before eventually settling in Canada.
From Alanea and Jolanta: Sadly, our mom was widowed too young but she was the strongest woman we’ve ever known. She was funny, smart, and attractive. You couldn’t win an argument with her but we tried! We always knew she loved us. We will miss her, but hoping she is somewhere dancing and laughing with our dad after so many years apart makes us feel a bit better. Our family will receive friends at the SMITH-LeROY FUNERAL HOME, 69 Wellington St. N, Woodstock on Saturday, December 15, 2018, from 11-11:45 am. SIEBER, Merv – Passed away with his family by his side at VON Sakura House on Monday, December 3, 2018, Mervyn “Merv” Sieber of Norwich, formerly of Fonthill in his 85th year.  Loving husband of Nancy Sieber (nee McLellan).  Loving father of Sandra Bowles (Mike Sitland) of Halifax, Michael Sieber (Sue) of Dartmouth, and Carol Dean (James) of Norwich.   Merv will be sadly missed by his grandchildren Danielle and Joshua Dean, Jennifer and Jason Sieber, and Jonathan Bowles. WESTENDORP, Ed – Welcomed into the arms of his Saviour Jesus Christ on Friday, November 30, 2018 at the Woodstock Hospital, Edward Westendorp in his 78th year. Beloved husband of Lynne Westendorp (nee Ralston) for 55 years.  Loving father of Dana Lynne Endersby (John), Glenn Westendorp (Beth) and Joy Woods (Rob Thompson) all of Woodstock.  Sadly missed by his grandchildren Carolyn, Selena, Carlton and Tristan Endersby; Joel Westendorp; step grandchildren Robert, William, Randy, Gregory Lavigne and the late Hannah Lavigne; Jaiden, Leah and Ryan Woods.  Survived by his brother Henry Westendorp of Arthur.  Fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, and extended family.   Predeceased by his parents Rein and Aaltje Westendorp and siblings Don, John, Joe, and Annie.   Ed was a teacher for 30 years and had a passion for teaching elementary children.  His great love of music was a large part of his life and he was a devoted member of The Bonds of Love Quartet for many years.  The family will receive friends at the SMITH-LeROY FUNERAL HOME, 69 Wellington St. N, Woodstock on Tuesday, December 4, 2018 from 6-8 pm for a memorial visitation.   A memorial service will be held at Huron Park Baptist Church, 199 Berwick St. Woodstock on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at 2 pm.  As an expression of sympathy donations may be made to Youth Unlimited. GALE, William (Bill) – of Innerkip, Ontario passed away peacefully at Woodstock Hospital surrounded by his family on Monday, November 19, 2018.
Born in Toronto on October 18th, 1948, he was the loving husband of Janice Gale of 47 years. Cherished father of Jason Gale and his wife Veronica of Ingersoll, and Jennifer Gale and her partner Jeremy Jackson of Woodstock. He was the proud grandfather of Chloe, Lola, Jaylen, Heather, Jasmine (Aaron), and great grandfather of Archer.
A lifelong horseman, Bill was known by many as a consummate gentleman who was a highly decorated harness driver. His achievements include, but were not limited to, an induction to the Windsor, Essex County Sports Hall of Fame in 2000 and then went on to receive the highest honor possible for his occupation, an induction into the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame in 2015. Bill’s hobbies away from the racetrack included spending time with his young granddaughters or hitting the links to play some golf. Bill was also known to go on road trips with no set destination where he could tell his countless stories. Bill was able to have a great sense of humor right until the end.
Bill is survived by his siblings, Ron Gale (Mitzie) David Gale (Rosa) Larry Gale (Cheryl) and Dianne Copping (late Bill Copping) as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Bill is predeceased by his parents Reginald and Helen Gale, his brothers Frank, and Ross Gale.
Following Bill’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no public visitation or service.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the Palliative Care Team at Woodstock Hospital for their efforts that went above and beyond to make sure all needs were met in the final stages of Bill’s life. RANKINE, Lenora – Passed away peacefully at Woodstock Hospital, on Tuesday, November 20, 2018, Lenora Anne Rankine (Nicholls) of Woodstock in her 78th year.  Lenora was married to Richard Rankine for 30 years.  Loving mother of Tammy and Robert Leger, Patricia, and Willy Gubbels, Philip and Cathy Pennington and Scott and Yvette Rankine. Lenora will be missed by her loving grandchildren Angela, Matthew, Tarin, and Tegan.  She will be missed by her brother, Marty Nicholls.  Lenora was predeceased by her grandson Gerrit Gubbles and her parents Cedric and Erie Nicholls (Cowan).   Cremation has taken place.  A private interment will take place in the Woodstock Anglican Cemetery at a later date. Hendershott, Gertrude (née Coles) – Peacefully at Woodstock Hospital, Gertrude Evelyn Hendershott passed away Thursday, October 4, 2018 in her 94th year. Predeceased by her husband Donald (1998), her daughters Mary Anne (2000) and Cheryl (2010) and her son Brian (2009). Dearly loved by her daughters Linda and Doug Eakins, Brenda and David Cuthbert, Sandra and Ken Ross, and Cathy and Jim Blakely. Much loved Grandma to 14 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Survived by sister Mary Totten and brother-in-law Ed Corkwell. Gertrude will be missed by her many friends in the rug hooking community and her friends at Oxford Gardens Retirement Community where she lived for three years. DOREEN MARKHAM (nee Whitehead) – The death occurred on October 31, 2018 at Woodstock Hospital of M. Doreen Markham in her 101st year. She was the wife of the late W. Derwood Markham, and was the daughter of the late L. Roy and Maud (Bird) Whitehead, and sister of the late Beverly Whitehead. Doreen was the proud mother of Dr. Larry Markham (wife Wan) of Lawrenceville, New Jersey, and Dr. Barry Markham (wife Lynne) of London, Ontario. She had four grandchildren, Wesley Markham (wife Lisa) of New Jersey, Kevin Markham (wife Annie) of North Carolina, Dr. Christopher Markham (wife Kathleen) of Dorchester, and Dr. Alexis Markham (husband Josh) of London. She also had six great-grandchildren, Gabriel and Xavier of New Jersey, Cameron and Molly of London, Edith of Dorchester, and Ian of North Carolina. Doreen was born in 1918 in Woodstock. She married Der Markham in 1943 at New St Paul’s Anglican Church in Woodstock when he was in the Canadian Army during WW2. When Der and her brother Bev Whitehead came home after the War, they founded Whitehead Furniture with her father Roy Whitehead. Their store was in business for more than 30 years on Finkle Street in Woodstock. After Der passed away in 1984, Doreen continued to live in their house on Light Street for the next 34 years until her death. She drove her own car until she was 97 years old. She was a good swimmer into her 80’s, and young swimmers remarked “Look at that old lady go!” Doreen was a lifelong animal lover, and was especially devoted to her black miniature poodles. She was an avid and accomplished figure skater and pianist at one time. She was also an excellent pool player up to a few days before she passed away. Doreen’s strong Christian beliefs sustained her throughout her life. The family will greet guests at the Smith-LeRoy Funeral Home, 69 Wellington St. North, Woodstock (519-537-3611) on Saturday, November 3, 2018 from 10:00 am – 10:45 am. DE MELO, Gloria (nee Pacheco) – Passed away on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at the Woodstock Hospital in her 90th year. Beloved wife of the late Nuno DeMelo who predeceased her on June 25, 2006. Loving mother of Nuno DeMelo of London. Gloria will be lovingly remembered by her many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents Manuel Pacheco and Maria Silva and her siblings Mariano, Antonio, Manuel, Jose, Neves and Alcidia. Family and friends are invited to the Smith-LeRoy Funeral Home, 69 Wellington St. North, Woodstock for visitation on Wednesday, November 7, 2018 from 7-9 pm. MOORE, Katherine “Katie” – With heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of our Katie-Dear, on Wednesday October 24th, 2018. Always missed and will forever be remembered by her daughter Ivy Isabella. Beloved daughter of Gary and Nanci (nee Atkinson) Moore. Cherished sister of Phillip (Kelly) Moore and their son Theodore. Katie will be fondly remembered by her partner Kyle Ferneyhough. Also survived by her many aunts, uncles, cousins and their families. JUTZI, Patricia A. – Passed away peacefully at the VON Sakura House on Thursday October 25th, 2018 in her 80th year. Beloved wife of the late Nyle Jutzi (2016). Cherished mother of Chris Webb and her husband Stan, Tammy Couch and her husband Brian, Sandy Shoemaker and her husband Craig and Kim Cooper. Loved grandmother of Jamie, Melissa, Valerie and great-grandmother of Eva and Jackson. Patricia will also be fondly remembered by Larry and Sherry Jutzi. Predeceased by her parents Peter and Margaret Brady, and by her brother Jim Brady. Following Patricia’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no public visitation or service. PUFFER, Jodi – It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Jodi Lynn Puffer “Toad” of Woodstock on Saturday, October 20, 2018. Jodi was born in Woodstock on October 28, 1980 and was a very important member of our family and will be forever missed by all that knew her. Beloved mother of Hailey Puffer Broughton and Aiden Puffer. Stepmother of Braeden Ede. Much loved daughter of Shelley Puffer and Mike and Renee Puffer. Loving partner of Ryan Ede for 15 years. Dear sister of Sam Puffer and stepsister of Ronnie Sharpe, Kristen Kennedy, and David Kennedy. She will be missed by her fur baby and best friend Chance (Channy). Granddaughter of Linda Sharpe. Niece of Charlene Puffer, Tina Douglas, Ronnie Sharpe, James Sharpe, Tracey Silver, Joanne Latimer, Connie Turlin, Bill Puffer, Susie Reynolds, Gerald Puffer, Bob Puffer, and Doug Puffer. Precious “crazy aunt” of Kayla Wasylyk-Ede, Robert Ede, Austin Puffer, Phoenix Ede (Best friend) and Evan Gray. Sister-in-law of Edward & Erin Gray and Robert Ede. Special cousin of Joanne Lee, Jennifer Remington, Sheena Stone, Jessica Puffer, and Jennifer Puffer. Best lifetime friend of Sheena Stone, Amanda Deadman, Sam Mowry, Chrystal Sharpe, and Tasha Lightheart. Jodi will be sadly missed by her many cousins, friends, and extended family. Predeceased by her grandparents Ron & Joan Sharpe, Gerald & Margurite Puffer, her uncle Charlie Sharpe and aunt Deb Plumb. Beloved mother of Rachel and Elizabeth. Cherished grandmother of Tyler, Brandon and James “Joe”. Dear sister of Tom (Nancy) and Paul (Jane). Bea will always be lovingly remembered by her “Heart Sister” Dian, as well as her special friends Gail, Stella, Carmella and Angela. VLEUTEN, Jane – Passed away on Monday, October 1, 2018 at Woodstock Hospital, Jane Adriana Vleuten (nee Vrolyk) at the age of 79. Beloved wife of Jan Vleuten for over 58 years. Loving mother of Audrey (Russell) Shelton of New Liskeard, Ken (Laura) Vander Vleuten of Waterloo, Sandra (Kevin) Jackson of Innerkip and Alida (Larry) Vander Molen of Fenwick. Proud grandmother of Katie (Chris), Bridget (Keith), Andrew, Reid, Brad, Shaylyn (Collin), Quinn, Derek (Nicole), Karyssa (Tyler), Josh and Jeremy. Loving great grandmother to her 5 angels Mavis, Gwen, Nolan, Adelynn, and Hayley. Missed by her brothers and sisters; Andy Vrolyk (Cathy), John Vrolyk (Barb), Joanne Vleuten (Harry), Mary Anne Ward (Larry), Doug Vrolyk (Denise) and Margaret Hainer (Garry). Also survived by several nieces, nephews, and extended family. Predeceased by her parents Martin and Margaret (nee Vander Lans). Jane was an active member of the Catholic Women’s League since 1975, was a volunteer for the Soup Kitchen since 1989 and Treasurer for them from 1996 to present; she was a board member for 2 years with the Woodstock Agriculture Society where she was also the Home Craft President for 3 years. Jane was also the coordinator for VON Meals on Wheels for Holy Trinity Catholic church for many years. She was an active member and volunteer at South Gate Centre. Jane also volunteered at the Bibles for Mission Thrift Store from 1996 to present where she was also a 6 year board member. The family will receive friends at the Smith-LeRoy Funeral Home, 69 Wellington St. N, Woodstock on Thursday, October 4, 2018 from 2-4 & 6-8 pm. A CWL Rosary will be said at 1:30 pm. Parish prayers will be at 6 pm. A funeral Mass will be held at Holy Trinity Parish, 1420 Devonshire Ave, Woodstock on, October 5, 2018 at 11 am. A private family interment will take place in St. Mary’s Cemetery. WALKER, David– Surrounded by his loving family at Woodstock Hospital on Wednesday, September 26, 2018, David Earl Walker of Woodstock at the age of 69. Beloved husband of the late Sharlynn Walker (nee Falkins), who predeceased him on November 27, 2013. Loving father of Dave Walker Jr (Diana) of Woodstock, and Susie Shapton (Shawn) of Woodstock. Loving Papa of Cole and Justin Walker and Natalie and Ben Shapton. Dear son-in-law of Jack and the late Marjorie Falkins. Sadly missed by his brother Gary Walker (Louise) of Alban and his sister Barb Walker (Bob) of Leamington. He will be fondly remembered by his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Gail Walker, Cheryl McMillan (Tom), Jack Falkins and Jim Falkins (Jennifer). Also survived by several nieces, nephews, extended family, and many dear friends. Predeceased by his parents Earl and Agnes (nee Corkish) Walker and his brother Mike Walker. Dave was an avid car enthusiast and is going to be missed by his car club families. REYNOLDS, Phyllis Lorene (nee Kitchen) – Passed away peacefully at the Woodstock Private Hospital on Thursday, September 27, 2018, at the age of 103. Beloved wife of the late William “Bill” Reynolds (d.1988). Loving mother of Jane (Arthur Boni), John (Glenna) and Peter (Barbara). Proud grandmother of Leslie, Michael, Sarah, Chris, Jessica, Mark, Andrew, Ben, David and 11 great grandchildren. Phyllis graduated from the U of T School of nursing in 1938 and worked in VON until 1947. She was an avid gardener, rug hooker, seamstress, and baker. The family will receive friends at the Smith-LeRoy Funeral Home 69 Wellington St. North, Woodstock on Monday, October 1, 2018 for visitation from 6-8 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the chapel on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at 11 am.
