David graduated from the University of Alberta in 1939, and worked as a reporter and assistant editorial writer with the Calgary Herald. He served in the R.C.N. from 1941-46 at sea in the Western Atlantic and was a diplomat in the Canadian Foreign Service with posts in Ottawa, Moscow, Paris, Belgrade, Athens, New York City, Canberra, Berlin, Cairo and Kuala Lumpur. He enjoyed golfing, curling, languages, literature and art. He is survived by his wife, Madeleine, son, Robert Andrew (Janeen), a daughter, Kathryn (Harry) Angus and a granddaughter, Amanda Stansfield. Predeceased by his first wife, Bernice. A Graveside Service will be held at a later date. Peacefully at her residence, Seeley’s Bay on Wednesday September 10, 2014. Judy Watson in her 63rd year. Beloved wife of Garry Welch. Dear mother of Joe (Shelley) of Tichborne. Predeceased by son, John. Also survived by daughter-in-law, Tanya Welch. Dear sister of Glen (Bertha) of Lyndhurst, Terry (Bill) of Gananoque, Ken (Sharon) of Seeley’s Bay, Peter of Gananoque, Fay (Pierre) of Kingston, Jackie (Larry) and Penny all of Gananoque. Fondly remembered by grandchildren; Jordan and Taylor, Zachary and Chelsea. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at the SCOTLAND FUNERAL HOME, 27 Main Street, Elgin on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9. Funeral Service in Our Chapel on Tuesday morning at 11 o’clock. Interment Olivet Cemetery. Peacefully at Broadview Nursing Centre, Smiths Falls on Tuesday August 26, 2014. Alex McWhirter of Portland, in his 82nd year. Beloved husband of the late Barbara Baxter (predeceased on August 19,2014). Dear father of Judy (Glenn) Rogers of Portland. Fondly remembered by grandson, David (Tanya) Rogers of Napanee and great-granddaughter, Allison. Predeceased by his parents, Agnes and Robert McWhirter. Dear brother of Pearl (Donald) Layng of Athens, Paulette Alquire of Brockville. Predeceased by brother, Russell McWhirter. Also survived by sisters-in-law, Beverly McWhirter of Lyndhurst and Beryl (Russell) Kelly of Portland as well as several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by niece Kim Layng and nephew, Richard Kelly. He loved his fuzzy canine friends, Bill and Chloe. A Joint Memorial Service for Alex and Barbara will be held in the Chapel of the Scotland Funeral Home, 27 Main Street , Elgin on Saturday morning October 4, 2014 at 11 o’clock. Inurnment Portland United Church Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy memorial donations made to the Portland United Church Cemetery, The Lanark Animal Welfare Society or University Hospitals Kingston Foundation (Cancer Centre) would be appreciated by the family

Dear father of Linda (Klaas) Huisman of Inverary, Terry Burtch of Kingston and Ruth Burtch-Wright of Battersea. Predeceased by son-in-law, Robert (Bob) Wright. Fondly remembered by his grandchildren; Linsay Ross and Nathan Wright as well as step-grandchildren; Anna, Bernice and Claudia. A Graveside Service will be held at Sandhill Cemetery, Battersea on Thursday August 28, 2014 at 2 o’clock.
