FIELDER: Sandra Ann (nee Foley)

Posted by on December 13, 2013

Fielder, Sandra - Dec 11,2013Sandra slipped away peacefully at home on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at the age of 62 with her husband and four children at her side, after a courageous battle against cancer.

She was the true partner, as wife and best friend, to Terry since age 16. The loving mother to Tyandra Bulmer (Bill), Tyler Fielder, Terra Fielder and Trisha Foley (Mike) and grandmother to Tyler and Allegra Bulmer, Jakob and Noah Fielder and Brennan Foley.

She was a cherished daughter-in-law to Betty Fielder, and treasured sister to Pat Watt (Bill), Jim Foley (Patti) and Steve Foley (Bev). Sandra will be greatly missed by many nieces and nephews as well as her extended families, church, athletic and community families.

Sandra invested herself in making this world a better place, especially for children.  Whether it was a grandchild or a student, she was a teacher in school and life.  She took pride in others’ successes and gave compassion in their struggles.  She lived clean, believed in healthy eating, an active lifestyle.  She valued our beautiful planet.  Sandra’s friendship was genuinely given, her heart was an open door. She was spirited, gracious, generous and if you let her, she would touch your soul with her warmth and kindness.

We were fortunate to have her.  We can no longer feel her touch but she lives on in the footprints she left behind in our hearts.

Thank you to the many Doctors and Nurses in the Grand River Cancer Center, the CCAC nurses who visited our home and the many who assisted in natural methods healing and comfort.  Thank you to those who took care of the family so they could focus on her.  Thank you for the ongoing messages that lifted her spirit.
Family and friends are invited to share their memories of Sandra during a visitation at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Saturday, December 14, 2013 from 1-3 & 6-8p.m.  A Memorial Service celebrating the life of Sandra will take place on Sunday, December 15, 2013 at 2:00p.m in the Erb & Good Chapel. WORTHINGTON: Fredrick Ernest

Posted by on December 3, 2013

Worthington, Dec 2 2013 croppedOn Sunday, December 1, 2013, Fred, in his 96th year, joyfully went to be with his beloved wife, Ruth (nee Powell) (1997). Fred was admitted to SBG Health Centre, Walkerton on September 27 with pneumonia which lead to complications, all which took their toll.

Throughout this experience Fred’s sense of humour only strengthened. He was very proud to tell anyone who came to his room that he had three daughters, Barb (deceased), Sandra Bohdal and her husband Ron (deceased) of Essex and Debbie Baer and her husband John of Lake Rosalind. He always added…two teachers and a nurse! Fred was delighted to be the grandfather of Debbie Lynn O’Neil of Maidstone, Joe and David Bohdal of Essex, and Jenni-Rebecca Roberge of Cambridge. He talked often of his grandchildren and their families adding that he had 15 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. He was ‘Poppa’ to all of them!

Fred was predeceased by his parents Hannah and Harry Worthington, and two brothers, Tom and Harry of whom he spoke often with love and pride.

Fred made many friends during his lifetime. He enjoyed talking about his 37 years working for C.P.R. and was even happier to tell that he had been retired as long as he had been employed…his secret? Good friends, cold wine, and lots of conversation.

Fred will be missed by his many, many friends but his hope was to be remembered for his quick wit, his one liners and numerous birthday celebrations!!!

Fred lived happily at Maple Court Villa, Walkerton for the past two years. It was his ‘home’ and if his health had improved, he would have returned there with bells on!

Fred requested cremation and a private family service. He also wanted everyone to raise a toast to him during ‘Happy Hour’. Out of 24 hours in a day, Fred made sure to observe the happiest!!

Condolences for the family and donations to SickKids Hospital Foundation, Toronto  may be arranged through the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King Street S. Waterloo at www.erbgood.com or 519-745-8445.

WESTFALL: Ralph J

Posted by on December 2, 2013

Westfall, Ralph Nov 29 2013 croppedIt has pleased Almighty God to take to Himself the soul of Ralph John Westfall, who died peacefully at St Mary’s General Hospital on Thursday, November 28, 2013, aged 93 years.

He was born in Kitchener on August 22, 1920, the only son of Leander Westfall and Alvina née Israel.

He was dearly loved and will always be remembered by Hazel née Schreiter, his wife for more than 69 years; and by his children, David Westfall and Sandy (Jamie) Hill; by his grandchildren, Christopher (Kristin) Hill, Jono (Roxann) Hill, and Kate (Andrew) Veitch; and by his six great-grandchildren; by his sister-in-law, Peggy Ferguson; and by his Nephew and his five Nieces, and their families.

Ralph was a life-long member of Historic St Paul’s Lutheran Church, and served in several different capacities throughout the years, including Sunday School teacher, Member of the Church Council, and Congregational Chairman.  He was Chairman of the Building Committee during construction of the new narthex.

He volunteered for active service “for King and Country” during World War II, enlisting in the Royal Canadian Air Force.  He was stationed at Dartmouth, Nova Scotia and at Gander, Newfoundland and Labrador; and he attained the rank of Corporal.

Ralph’s career with Erb and Erb Insurance Brokers Ltd spanned forty years, including over a decade-and-a-half as the firm’s managing partner and as President.  Under his leadership, the firm grew tenfold.  He acted always with honour and integrity, and held himself to a very high standard for personal advice and excellent service to clients.

He was a former President and an Honourary Life Member of the Insurance Brokers’ Association of Waterloo Region, and an Honourary Life Member of the Insurance Brokers’ Association of Ontario.  He was an expert in Commercial General Liability; and for many years, he chaired a committee which provided insurance advice to the City of Kitchener.

Ralph had a long association with the Kitchener-Waterloo YMCA, including participation in the Y’s Men’s Club and serving for several years as Chairman of the Camping Committee; and he was a recipient of the K-W YMCA’s Meritorious Service Award.

He was a gardener and an enthusiastic planter of trees (especially at the farm at St Agatha), an awesome bridge player, a sailor and an avid fisherman (especially at the cottage on the French River), a champion shuffleboard player (during winters spent at Landmark Estates, in Naples, Florida), a frequent and always-gracious host, and a quiet philanthropist.

Cremation has taken place, as he wished.  A Memorial Service will be held at Historic St Paul’s Lutheran Church, 137 Queen Street South, Kitchener, on Saturday, December 7, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev Dr. Roger Winger, Pastor Emeritus of Historic St Paul’s, officiating.  Family visitation will be at the Church, in the hour preceding the service; and a reception will follow the service.

Burial will be in the family plot at Memory Gardens, Breslau.

Dad, how can mere words describe the special man you were?  You taught me all the big life lessons, were always there, a positive influence providing love, support, peace, comfort and of course a great joke.  My memories will include you laughing, smiling, and making the most of each day.  I will not be alone as I know you will always walk alongside me as my journey continues.  I will smile every time I see a bauble atop a car antenna blowing in the wind; I know this will be you waving to me from Heaven.  Till we meet again, all my love, Yogi.
