LANGDON, William

Posted by on March 27, 2014

LANGDON, WilliamWilliam (Bill) Langdon, also known as “Papa”, peacefully passed on Wednesday March 19, 2014 in his 61st year after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was a beloved husband and soul mate to Jo; son to Roy and Florence; Brother to Jim, Joanne, David and Paul;  uncle;  father to Tim, Lucas, Melanie and Jacob; and Papa to Jessica, Sarah, Sara Jane, Thressa, Ryan, Hailey, Lilyanna, Andrew, Amira, Elizabeth, Vyolet and Tristan.

When diagnosed with Cancer, he embraced the journey ahead with a fighting spirit and an unwavering sense of hope. This included his embracing the opportunity to participate in clinical trials, which would not only support him but also help to advance cancer research.

Bill chose to focus each day and its challenges as they came and remained optimistic and brave. Throughout the journey and the various appointments, Bill never complained and kept his cleaver wit and humour which would bring out smiles and laughter despite the worst of circumstances.  Bill was an inspiration to his family, friends and the many people he met along the way during his treatments.

Bill had a fierce and unconditional love for his family. His most treasured role was that of “Papa” that he shared with Jo. Papa was adored by all of his grandchildren who knew that when they were in his company a fun time was to be had. He was also a fantastic source for candy, special treats and a hearty chuckle.

Outside of family, Bill was a passionate movie aficionado, candy connoisseur and avid poker player. He truly felt at home in Las Vegas; knew where to find all the best treats; and how to throw a party. Over the years there have been so many wonderful events held where Bill went out of his way to entertain the grandchildren in particular, like the “pirate”; chalet and hotel Christmases. He ensured that everyone was made to feel special and that moments were spent making memories that would be treasured and held in our hearts.

Bill wished that we remember him with a smile and shed tears of happiness. He will be remembered for his fun loving spirit, zest for life and love for his children and grandchildren. We will honour his memory with an intimate and private celebration of his life. Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society are preferred in lieu of flowers.
