Hart, Albert Edward

Posted by on April 20, 2013

Albert Edward Hart passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 9, 2013 in his 89th year. He is survived by his wife of 65 wonderful years, Mae Hart; his sister, Rose Hart; his five children, Donna Hart Arcangeli of Montecarlo, Italy; Karen Hart Culbertson of Woodberry Forest, Virginia; Randy Hart of Newcastle, Ontario; Sandra Hart of Pickering, Ontario; and Wendy Hart Penner of Vernon, British Columbia; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Born and raised in Daylesford, Saskatchewan, Albert enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force when he was 17 and served in England during WWII before returning to study mechanical engineering at the University of Saskatchewan, where he graduated with distinction. He then took a position with Atomic Energy of Canada (AECL), for whom he worked his entire career; initially in Chalk River, as the Chief-Design Engineer on the NRU reactor, before moving on to postings in Sheridan Park, Mississauga, ON, Montreal, QC and Wolsong, South Korea. He retired from AECL in 1981.

Al and Mae’s marriage of six and a half decades was equally full and distinctive — worthy of a congratulatory message from the Queen on their 60th anniversary. Al’s greatest care was always in seeing to, and providing for, his family. In the journey that he and Mae shared through more than 25 different homes and changes of postings, Albert sought to instill in his children good common sense, an understanding of the value of hard work and the joy of loyalty to family — all taught with a firm hand, humour and respect. His life was an inspiration and his memory will be forever treasured.

In keeping with Albert’s wishes, a private cremation has taken place and his ashes will be interred during the summer of 2013 in the Humboldt Public Cemetery, alongside his father, Charles Albert Hart.

If so desired, donations can be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.

Condolences may be made online at www.newcastlefuneralhome.com
