NALEZINSKI, Edward – It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Edward at the GNGH at the age of 60. Father of Terri Manuel (Greg), Tina Glandon (Steve), and Dawnie Glandon (Richard). Survived by his mother Marie Dabald and his sister Betty Nalezinski (the late Daryl Beaulieu). Predeceased by his father Michael Nalezinski. He will be remembered by nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Family will receive friends at MORSE & SON FUNERAL HOME, 5917 Main St, on Monday March 19, 2018 from 11AM-1PM with a celebration of his life at 1PM. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery.

GILMORE, Gail M. (nee Walker) – After a lengthy illness on Sunday, March 11, 2018, Gail passed away at the Welland Hospital at the age of 75. Loving wife of Wayne for 51 supportive and dedicated years. Beloved mother of Mark (Kristine), Amy (George) and Jim (Laura). Adored grandma of Ryan, Kristen & Lauren, Kaden, Erica, Alessandro & Emma. Gail will be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Survived by her brother John “Skip” Walker (Dawn). Predeceased by parents Bill & Mary Walker, her brother Bruce & Sister Lyne. Gail was a long-time member of the Niagara Weavers Guild and enjoyed many great memories with her friends there.

Cremation has taken place and family will receive friends on Friday, March 16, 2018 at St. John’s Anglican Church, 3428, Portage Road, from 10 AM- 12 PM with a celebration of her life to follow at 12 PM. A private inurnment will take place at a later time. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Niagara Falls Humane Society, The Kidney Foundation of Canada or to a charity of one’s choice would be appreciated. The family are very thankful for the compassionate care she received from many nurses and doctors.

WESTLAKE DAVID BLAIR

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of David Blair Westlake after a brief illness, on Thursday, March 8, 2018 at the age of 58, David passed away peacefully at home with his wife and best friend Jayme by his side. He was the proud and loving father to Emily (Shane), Noah, Grant, Carleen (Mike), Stuart (Michelle). David was an amazing “Krampus” to granddaughters, Kenzi-Lu and Hayley. He was a dedicated son to Margaret (predeceased 2012) and Arnold and his wife Marie. David will be missed by his brother and friend Bruce, fondly referred to as “Bubba” and siblings John (Sheree) Locke, Beth (Dan) Quinn, David (Sue) Locke, Peter Locke and their families. David will be sadly missed by the extended Westlake and Remington families. David was adored by his Mother-in-Law, Betty Swanwick, Sister-in-Law Tracy (Mike) Piggott, Brother-in-Law, Adam Swanwick and their families.

As a teenager, his love of the arts began at the Magnus Theatre in Thunder Bay. David was a student of Philosophy at the University of Toronto and continued his studies at the National Theatre School in Montreal. Over the years David was employed at various theatres across Canada. For the past 20 years and at the time of his passing, David was employed at the Shaw Festival Theatre as a Scenic Constructor. He was a member of IATSE Local 461 Union.

David had a passion for music and as an avid musician loved to play the guitar and sing and was a member of the St. Marks Anglican Church Choir. He experienced life with a gentleness and sly humour and always had a friendly smile and curiosity about what was going on in the world.

A special thanks to the oncology nurses in 3B at St. Catharines General Hospital and to Paramed & VON palliative nurses who watched over David when he came home.

As per David’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held at St.

Mark’s Anglican Church, 41 Byron Street, Niagara-on-the-Lake, on Monday March 26th at 11:00 a.m. Reception to follow.

CAMERON, Crystle – With great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend on Thursday March 8, 2018 at her home, surrounded by her loving family at the age of 58. Beloved wife of Glenn for 36 years. Devoted mother to Valerie Oliveira (Kevin) and Stephen Cameron (Megan). Proud grandmama of dear Quinn. Cherished sister of Shirley LeRoy (Duane), Feryn Craven (Ray), Warren Bennett (Cheryl) and Glenna Prins (Ted); daughter-in-law of Ethel Cameron; sister-in law of Nancy Cameron, and aunt to many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents Irvine Bennett and Gladys Bilson and father-in-law Stillman Cameron. Crystle fought a courageous battle with brain cancer. She will be missed dearly by all of her family and friends and will be remembered for her infectious smile and gentle spirit. We wish to thank the team at Juravinski Cancer Centre for their compassionate care and Dyanne Swanson of ParaMed for her wonderful care and support.

Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held at the MORSE & SON EVENT CENTRE, 5929 Main Street, Friday March 16 from 7-9 p.m. and Saturday March 17 from 2-4 p.m. A memorial service will be held in Renfrew County in summer 2018. MORRISON, Ramsay Alexander

1929-2018

Honest, loyal, kind and humorous. Ramsay passed away Monday, March 5, 2018 peacefully at his home with wife Sharon at his side. Predeceased by mother (Margaret), and father (James) originally from Scotland, sister Sheila (William) Royce, and twin brother Frank (Jean). He was blessed with a son Cam, and daughter Nancy (Carol), also two grandchildren Kauna and Tomas. Included are many nieces and nephews. Ramsay was a carpenter for Cooper Construction and was a proud member of the Local 18 Carpenters Union for 70 years. His joy in life was belonging to the St. Catharines Royal Scottish Country Dancing Society, and being the one and only “groupie” at the Evergreen Singers singouts. A special thanks to CCAC, PSW’s, attending nurse’s home visits and night nurses from the Niagara Region. Our neighborhood has been wonderful, what with many visits and provisions of homemade nourishments.

A private funeral will be held. Memorial service to be held in the near future. Details to follow. Donations to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation would be appreciated.

MIDDLETON, Robert “Neil” – Passed away peacefully with his family beside him on February 23, 2018 at GNGH. Neil was 78 years old. He will be greatly missed by his wife Margaret, his sons Greg (Rita) Middleton and Mark Middelton, step-daughter Barbara and David Lee, stepson Ian Hannah, Doctor Barbara Bryer, grandchildren Doctor Alexandra Lee, Mark Lee, Leigh and Jack Hannah. Neil was an active member of St. Andrews Scottish Society in Niagara-on-the-lake. He also hosted the Quaich which is the Scottish tasting and dinner, held at the Old Winery. He will be missed by his many friends, including special friends Shelagh and Mac Moolman and Lillian and Harold Krogh. Cremation has already taken place and a celebration of life will be held at MORGAN FUNERAL HOME, 415 Regent St. Niagara-on-the-Lake on Wednesday March 7, 2018 at 11 am. BLAIR, Gayle – Passed away surround by family on Monday February 12, 2018 at Welland General Hospital. She will be greatly missed by her children; Todd (Wendy), Joe, Mark (Nicole). Grandchildren Cody, Dustin, Justine, Jacob, Jordan and Joshua and Great-grandmother to her Great-granddaughter. She will also be missed by step-sister Shelly, niece Samantha and many family and friends. Gayle will be remembered for her strong native, black roots and religious beliefs. She raised 3 sons on her own while putting herself through nursing school. She has overcome many obstacles throughout her life. Which shows her strength and character. She was a very caring individual and always put others needs ahead of her own. Those who wish can make a donation to Canadian Cancer Society (Women’s Research) in Gayle’s honour.

MOTTOLA, Stephanie (Pihach) – Passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, February 11, 2018, at home with her family after a courageous battle with colon cancer, at the age of 91. Beloved wife of the late Guido (Guy) Mottola (2010).  Devoted mother of Michelle “Shelley” (Gord Marchiori). Adored grandmother of Jocelyn and Katelyn. Dear sister of Margaret Leon and Ruby Anderson. Sister-in-law of Alma Dickerson, Mary Mottola, Jean Hetherington (Ken), Carol Mottola, John Mottola (Carmel) and Peter Mottola (Judy).  Mama and grandma to her extended family Nguyen and Tuyet Thai and sons David (Anna) and John (Tiffany) and their children; Liam and Alyssa. Fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  Predeceased by her parents; Annie and Michael “Max” Pihach, brother George Pihach (Mary) and sisters Jennie Lemiech (Stanley) and Vada Scott (Wayne), sister-in-law; Betty Harpes, brothers-in-law; Lewie Leon, Murray Mottola, Alfred Mottola, Jim Dickerson and Jim Harpes.  Stephanie graduated from Mack Training School of Nursing in 1948.  She worked in Toronto, Stratford, Victoria, New York City and the Greater Niagara General Hospital. Stephanie became a certified Occupational Health Nurse and worked for Cyanamid Welland Plant for 35 years, where she met the love of her life Guy. She volunteered for 25 years at the Red Cross Blood Services Clinic and was a member of the Catholic Women’s League for many years.

The family will receive friends at MORSE & SON FUNERAL HOME, 5917 Main St., Niagara Falls, on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m.  Funeral mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Scapular Church, 6557 Thorold Stone Rd. Orlin A. Thomas – Surrounded by the love of his family and friends, Orlin went to be with the Lord on Monday, February 12th, 2018.  Survived and deeply missed by loving wife Yvonne, brother Ken, son David, and daughters Pam (the late Jeff), Linda Cybulski (Dan) and Lori Tyrrell (Sean). Orlin’s pride and joy were his 7 grandchildren Stephen, Jessica, Jordan, Lexie, Holly, Matthew and Eric and his great grandson Gideon.  Predeceased by his parents, and nine brothers and sisters.

Orlin was born in Englehart Ontario on June 8, 1931. Orlin retired from Enbridge after more than 40 years of employment. Orlin will be missed by his church family at Main Street Baptist. His place was usually in front of the church playing his guitar and singing with the choir or in his quartet, or anywhere there was a microphone and an instrument to play. If Orlin wasn’t playing guitar or singing, you could find him in his garden, in which he took great pride. He played guitar with Pastor Evan Craig and “the Good News Men” at area nursing homes or for shut ins, and special events.  Dad has been practicing his music for his whole life and is now singing with the greatest choir of all, singing praises to our Lord in Glory.

Family will receive friends on Friday, February 16, 2018 from 7-9 PM and Saturday, February 17, 2018 from 12-1 PM with a celebration of his life at 1 PM. The family would like to thank all the staff at Eventide home who have cared for Orlin for the past two years. MORRISON, George Lawrence – It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of George (Moe) Morrison, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, on Tuesday February 13, 2018 at the Greater Niagara General Hospital at the age of 86. He is survived by his best friend, wife and partner Mary, who has faithfully remained by his side for 45 years. Loving father of Diane Saccone. He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren Kory (Julie) Steward and Kara (Jon) Steward. Proud great-grandfather of Chloe, Presley and Cassius (Cash) Steward and Marshall Steward Roch. George retired from Canadian National Railroad (CNR) after 40 years, then worked as a gardener for the Niagara Parks Commission. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed having coffee with “The Gang” at Tim’s.

COWAN, William Herbert “Herb” – It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Herb on Monday, February 12, 2018 at the GNGH at the age of 87. Loving husband of Shirley (nee Daigle) for 37 years. Proud father of Rick (Heidi), Bill (Elaine) and David. Step father of Court, Shawne and Tracey. Beloved grandfather of Michelle (Will), Michael, Jeffrey, Amanda (Jon), Logan, Skyelar, C.J. and John, and 6 great grandchildren. Survived by his sister Mae Rusk and his brother Bob (Judith) Coughlin. Predeceased by his first wife Wyn, his sister Gladys McVey and his brother Albert Cowan. He will be fondly missed by many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Herb was a real estate agent for over 30 years, and, along with Shirley, the proud owner of Jungle Land Mini Putt for 15 years. He enjoyed puttering about the house, camping and traveling.

Cremation has taken place and an interment of ashes will take place at Lundy’s Lane Cemetery.

McLENNAN, Eric Leon – It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to Ric, who passed away peacefully at St. Catharines General Hospital on February 2, 2018 following a brief illness. He will be dearly missed by his wife Lorraine, of almost 60 years, and his four children, Heather, Carrie, Cole, Jennifer, his four grandchildren Michelle, Anthony, Ryan, Kristen, and great granddaughter Ariel. Ric had a great sense of humor, a passion for classical music and was an avid Habs fan.

Beloved husband of Mary for 61 years.  Loving father of Jerry (Carol), Susan Diamond (Bill) and Darlene Kornya (Gary). Proud grandfather of Kristin (Sean Ainsworth) and Joshua Diamond, Jeremy, Jessica and Justin Pan, Matthew, Melanie and Michael Kornya.

Tony was born in Strakonice, Czechoslovakia in 1929 and immigrated to Canada as a young man. He worked at General Motors for 31 years retiring in 1990.  His greatest loves in life were his wife and family, his garden and golfing. Tony’s warmth, compassion and especially his sense of humor will be greatly missed.

Special thanks to Dr. Arvinte and the staff of Hotel Dieu Shaver for their care and compassion during this difficult time.

Baker, Edward webBAKER, Edward (Ted) Barry – Passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family and friends at the Greater Niagara General Hospital on Friday, February 5, 2016 at the age of 82 from a stroke.  Devoted husband of 59 years to the late Madeline Baker and loving father to Lynn (Mickey) Trapnell, Kari (Lou) Bragaw and Diane (Vic) Pizzicarola.  Treasured Papa to Matt, Celine, Tim, Maddie and Kayla.  Dear brother to Jane (Don) Hurson, Margie (Gord) Cudney and the late Paul Baker and brother-in-law to Susie (Horst) Bockel.  Lovingly remembered by his many nieces, nephews and friends.  Ted had a wonderful life.  He loved his family and was a wonderful friend.  He loved travelling, playing bridge, shooting pool, curling and playing cards especially with his grandchildren.  After retiring from Blenkhorn & Sawle he enjoyed boating, fishing and snowmobiling at their beautiful home on Lake of Bays for 17 years.  He created wonderful memories for his family and friends and we will miss him dearly.  As per his wishes there will be a private interment for the family only at the Fairview Mausoleum in Niagara Falls.  Condolences may be shared at www.morseandson.com

Hearn, Beatrice blOn January 1st Beatrice peacefully passed at Bella Senior Residence at the age of 95.  Predeceased Stan, her loving husband of 56 years, beloved mother of Barbara Hickey (David deceased), Beverley Whitworth (Brian), Betting Jolley (Harry). She will be sadly missed by Sister-in-law Frances, Brother-in-law Richard and several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Bea was well known throughout the community while working at Stamford A & P for over 30 years and was a faithful and a long-time member of Stamford Presbyterian Church.

Funeral Arrangements are as follows at Stamford Presbyterian Church, Thursday January 7, 2016. Visitation from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Interment to follow the service then followed by a reception in the church hall. BROWN, Shirley May – Peacefully, on December 25, 2015 at the Greater Niagara General Hospital in her 82nd year.  Cherished wife of the late Frank.  Survived by her sister-in-law Frances Dale.  Predeceased by her sisters and brothers-in-law Jack, Betty, Bill, Jo, Bob and Tom.  She will be missed by many nieces and nephews.  Special cousin to Edith and special niece to Gladys.

Shirley is at MORSE & SON FUNERAL HOME, 5917 Main Street where her family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 30, 2015 from 10-11 am.  Funeral service will follow immediately at 11 o’clock.  Interment to follow at Fairview Cemetery.  For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.  Memories, photos and condolences may be shared at www.morseandson.com.

PALMER, Dr. John T. – Peacefully on Saturday December 19, 2015 at the Greater Niagara General Hospital, in his 74th year; Beloved husband and best friend of Janie; Father of Patti and Susan, both of B.C.;   Grandfather of Cody and Lindsay Maves, Niagara Falls;  Dear brother of Helen (Rick) McMillan, Niagara-on-the-Lake and Steve (Lorna) Palmer, Ottawa;  Uncle of Kim, David, Stephen, Sarah, Heather and John.   Predeceased by his parents Earl and Audrey (Niagara-on-the-Lake).  Born in Iroquois Falls, John was a graduate of Queens University, and was a dedicated and much loved family physician in Niagara Falls for 45 years.

Funeral arrangements private. It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Elizabeth (Liz) Allan, on Tuesday, December 15, 2015, at her home, at the age of 84. Beloved wife of the late John Thomas (Jack) Allan (2001).  Loving mother of Doug (Sue), Karen Hudson (Mike) and John. Cherished grandmother of Mikael, Joshua, Amie Mason (Marlon), Kurtis and Kelsey.  Great grandmother of Brayden, Marlon and Oriah and sister-in-law of Vi Phillip and family.  Predeceased by her brother Tony Phillip.

The family will receive friends at MORSE & SON FUNERAL HOME, 5917 Main St. on Friday, December 18, 2015 from 12 noon to 2 p.m., with the service following.  Burial to take place in Lundy’s Lane Cemetery.  As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to either Heart & Stroke Foundation or to the Kidney Foundation.

Robinson, Joy photoPeacefully, on December 10, 2015, in her 88th year, with family by her side at the Greater Niagara General Hospital. Adored wife for 53 years of the late Lindley (Lin) Robinson (January 2003). Cherished mother of Valerie, Phil (Ruth) and Virginia McGrath (Rory). Beloved grandmother of Liam (Bridget), Erin Brown (Cody) and Darby Green (Simon) and much loved great-grandmother of Devon, Blake, Miles, Logan, Ellis, Ryley, Jaiden, Gavin and Lucas. Sister of James and Jerrold (Jerry) Dell.  Dear sister-in-law of Pat and Cam Calder.  As well, Joy is survived by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents, Lincoln Dell and Florence (Inrig), and siblings June Cowan (Fred) and Donald Dell.  Joy worked for the Niagara District School Board (now DSBN) as a secretary from 1962 to 1987 at A.N. Myer, Maple Street School and Prince Philip Senior Public School where she was a valued friend and helpful mentor to dozens of teachers and hundreds of students for 25 years.

On retirement Joy enjoyed many years at the family cottage on Sand Lake with her partner, friend and husband Lin, working on ambitious construction projects, watching sunsets and whiling away the time. Nothing made her happier than time spent with her adoring grandchildren and more recently her great grandchildren.

Cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends at MORSE & SON FUNERAL HOME, 5917 Main Street, from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm on Tuesday, December 15, 2015.  A service to celebrate Joy’s life will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at 1 pm.  Private family interment.

For those who wish, memorial donations in Joy’s name may be made to Stamford Presbyterian Church, the Salvation Army, or the Niagara Falls Humane Society.

CERTO, Concetta “Connie (nee Trigo)

Certo, ConcettaBorn in 1922 in San Pier Niceto, Sicily, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2015 at the Meadows of Dorchester, Niagara Falls. Concetta was 93 years of age.  Beloved wife of the late Domenico Certo.  Dear mother of Frank Certo (Muriel), of Florida, Tanina Biamonte (Joe), of Niagara Falls and Pietrina Sacco (Joe), of Niagara Falls.  She will be sadly missed by her 10 grandchildren, Ralph Sacco (Tania), of Welland , Domenic Sacco (Sue), of Guelph, Mary Marrone (Dany), of Niagara Falls, Mary Roberts (Dean), of Beamsville, Lisa McBay (Arnold), of Welland, Domenic Certo (Janine), of Niagara Falls, Marci Hanks (Craig), of Wisconsin, Connie Cooper (Jason Tyler), of Rochester, Christina Certo, of Michigan and Frankie Certo, of Florida.  Concetta was also very proud of her 17 great grandchildren, Joey Sacco, Nicholas Sacco, Alysa Sacco, Gianpeter Sacco, Dalton Roberts, Riley Roberts, Brianna Certo, Joshua Certo, Keileigh Cooper, Katelyn Cooper, Keaton Cooper, Karsen Cooper, Korben Cooper, Konrad Walters, Clayton Walters, Mira Certo and Nicholas Hanks.  Concetta will be fondly remembered by her nieces, nephews and friends.  The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff of the Meadows of Dorchester for their care and compassion.

Concetta is at MORSE & SON FUNERAL HOME, 5917 Main Street where her family will receive friends on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm.  Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Thomas Church on Monday afternoon at 1 pm.  Interment with Rite of Committal to follow at Fairview Cemetery.  As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

PEFFER, Shirley Jane (nee Wray)

Peffer, ShirleyPassed away peacefully on Tuesday December 8, 2015 at the age of 86. Predeceased by her husband Lorne Peffer, 2 stepdaughters Elaine Mustoe and Jan (Wayne) Ferguson and 1 grandaughter. She leaves behind her 3 daughters Susan (Ned) Perlman, Barbara (Michael) Kolodziej and Mary Jane (Russell predeceased) Ortman, 1 step daughter Lynn Peffer. She will also be missed by her 13 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, her sister Barbara (Albert predeceased) McFarland and 2 nieces. She was born in Toronto and later moved to Niagara Falls in her early teens. She worked many years at Marine Midland Bank. Shirley retired to Hope Bay, Waterloo and then Virgil. Throughout the years she enjoyed playing bridge, golf and attending family gatherings. Cremation has taken place and a private family interment will be held at a later date.
