Donald Ross McIntyre

June 14,1932 – October 13, 2018

Don was born in Morden, Manitoba to Alfred Woodward McIntyre and Isabel Valentine McIntyre (nee Macey). He grew up on the border where his father worked. As a small boy he developed his life long love affair with cars as he learned the makes and models of all the cars that passed through the border each day.

Don graduated from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelors of Arts and spent most of his career working as a claims manager in the insurance industry. He married the love of his life and his best friend Dorothy Ann Redfearn in 1957 and set about raising his family in Winnipeg, Calgary and Edmonton. In 1988 he was transferred to Langley BC where he retired. Don and Dorothy loved to travel. After Dorothy died in 2013, Don took a solo trip to Tuktoyaktuk in February, 2015 at the age of 82 as a fundraiser for the cancer society.

Don and Dorothy’s lives were characterized by the friends they made in every decade and every community where they lived. Don still kept in contact with his university fraternity friends, the couples they regularly gathered with in Edmonton and all the friends he made in churches and business throughout the years.

Don considered himself the most fortunate of men, blessed with 56 years of love with his wonderful wife, Dorothy and another couple of years of love with Myrna Huggan, his dear partner for the last years of his life, with Myrna visiting him every day as Don spent his last days in the hospital and finally the hospice.

Don leaves behind his sister, Elizabeth (Lynn), sons Matthew and Cameron (Darlene), daughter Kathleen (Phil), grandchildren Arica (Bryce), Kate, Larisa, Joshua, Emily (Josh), Nathan Ross, Joanna, Xiomara, Benjamin, Jacob, and great grandchildren Cooper and Michael.

Many thanks to Reverend Kelly Duncan and Reverend Laurie Deacon for their care and attentiveness to Dad in his last weeks, and to the staff at Crossroads Inlet Hospice and the Royal Columbian Hospital who were unfailingly kind and compassionate.

A Memorial Service will be held for Don on Wednesday, Oct 24th at 7 pm at the Parish of St. George in Fort Langley  (9160 Church St., Fort Langley, BC, V1M 2R6).
