Keaveney, Betty Jean – Passed away peacefully at Mill Creek Care Centre, Barrie, on  Friday, December 29, 2017. Betty was a long time member of the Barrie Country Club and an avid golfer and bridge player. For many years she was an educator/principal with the Simcoe County School Board. Betty is survived by daughters Pam Partridge (Doug) and Penny Hardy in addition to two grandchildren Ron and Tom Partridge. At Betty’s request there will be no funeral. Black, Gregory Kenneth of Bracebridge, Ontario

BLACK, Gregory Kenneth (1955-2017) – Never one to miss a sunset on the Muskoka River, Greg Black passed peacefully in his home, in the late afternoon of December 22, 2017. He was surrounded by his family, in the place he loved most in the world, with the sun setting on his face. Greg is survived by his best friend and life partner, Nancy Gamble, loving children Jordan Black (Ashley), Kate Black (Jordan), Jori Gamble (Don) and Lily Gamble (Jo). Son to Beth Black and the late Ken Black, and brother to Debra Selkirk (late Mark), Kendra Black (Peter) and David Black (Cynthia).  Adoring grandfather to Sofia and Eva Botting and beloved family member and close friend to Chris, Jamie, Nancy, George, John, Erika, and more. Greg was a leader for the local soccer club and active in the greater Muskoka community throughout his life. He will be missed by all those that he touched as a coach, mentor, and volunteer. Details regarding a service of remembrance will be made available in the coming days. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Greg’s honour to the South Muskoka Hospital Foundation or the Bracebridge Soccer Club.

It is with the deepest sorrow that I have to announce the passing of my dear and lovely wife, and best friend, Louise Lloyd.
Louise fought hard against the negative spirit of this world. Louise passed away December 12, 2017. A memorial to celebrate Louise’s life will be held on January 5th at 1:00pm at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 115 Ferris Lane Barrie. She loved people, to sing for them, and lend a caring hand whenever she could. I Love you Louise, and can’t wait for that promised time, where I will see you, hold you, and play music together and laugh and be content with paradise.

DOROTHY MARY CAVELL SCRUTON (NEE BAKER) March 3, 1918 – October 23, 2017   This was a long life fortified by faith and strengthened by a prevailing perspective of gratitude. Dorothy defined her life by the blessings she had been afforded and took little note of those that had eluded her. Those who knew Dorothy were blessed by her kindness, generosity and her wry sense of humour. She was predeceased by her husband William Scruton and subsequently by companion Edward Hardacre.  She is survived by sons William, Richard & Edward. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Nicole, Lauren, Laurie-Dawn, Louise and Ted. Born and raised in Cookstown, Dorothy was the youngest of nine children to the late William James Baker and the late Edith Wesson.  She was predeceased by her brothers Jack, George, Norman (Alice Harris) & Frank – by her sisters Betty, Kathleen, Frances (Percy Heal) & Madge (Douglas Hedger) – and by favoured niece Mary Lou (Dick Weistra). Peter Welles – June 23, 1939 – November 15, 2017
Peter Welles, loving husband, father and grandfather passed away unexpectedly on Nov 15, 2017.  Originally from Friesland, The Netherlands, made Canada his home in 1953.  Resident of Guelph, Orillia,  and moved to Barrie in 1970 with his family.
Loving husband to Joanne (nee Obee) for 55years. Extraordinary father to Scott (Cindy) and Kelly. Proud Poppa Pete to Andrew, Patrick, Bryce and Cailey.  Son of the late Leendert and Johanne Welles.    Brother of Kathleen (late Leo) and the late Eddy.
Peter was a long-time employee of the Simcoe County Board of Education.
Peter was involved with St. George’s Anglican Church  and was a frequent blood donor with the Canadian Red Cross.  During his retirement years, volunteered as a driver for Meals on Wheels.  When needed, Peter was there to help.
Memorial service to be held at St. George’s Anglican Church, Burton Ave and Granville St, on Thursday, November 23, 2017 – visitation between 12:00pm until time of service at 1:00pm.  Reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers,  donations may be made to Hospice Simcoe or to St. George’s Anglican Church.

Brunne, Chris, 54 – Passed peacefully on October 22, 2017 in Leaskdale, ON, after a hard fought battle with cancer. He was born on July 11th 1963 in Uxbridge, ON to Norm and Betty Brunne and grew up with his siblings: Barb, Vicki and Dave. In 1988 he married Laura Shepherd and together they raised their 3 children Darren, Nicole, and Amanda. Chris worked as a General Contractor in the Uxbridge area for many years while following his true passion for music, golf and hockey in the evenings and weekends. A celebration of life will be held at St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church – Regional Road #1, Leaskdale, ON L0C 1C0- Visitation on Friday, November 3rd 2017 from 7:00pm-9:00pm and Saturday, November 4th 2017 from 12:00pm -1:00pm followed by a service from 1:00pm- 2:00pm and reception to follow. Bowser, Floyd Arnold –  73, of Barrie, ON, has finished his struggle with PSP at Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre, Barrie, surrounded by his family on Friday, October 13, 2017.

Floyd is survived by his wife Jan, they celebrated 51 years of marriage, his daughter Lara (Jason) Bowser – Richards, son Brent (Natalie) Bowser -Caron, sister Alva LaPlante, brothers Don and Murray Bowser and loving grandchildren, MacAllistar, Kayla (Tim), Rianna, Cieran, Lincoln and Hendrix, nephews, nieces and extended family.

Floyd was a loving father, husband, proud grandfather and friend to all. Floyd was loved by all around him, a man of few words he conveyed the willingness to support and help everyone in his life. He created bonds of friendship no one will forget.  A special thank you to Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre in Barrie, Ontario for their loving care and support. Wendy Leanne Oliver (Brown) 1962-2017 In her 55-year Wendy passed away peacefully with her husband, children, and family by her side at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Hospital, on Sunday Oct 1st, 2017, it was also Wade and Wendy’s 34th wedding anniversary. Wendy’s true love was her husband Wade, and children Jessica (Lewis), Josh, and new granddaughter Daisy Jean. Wendy is survived by her siblings Susan (Greg, Laura, Lane, Jade, Olivia, Layla, Danica, Harper), Clive, Natalie (Kyle, Jack, Alec), Brenda (Jeremy, Kingston, Mason), Alex (Cheryl), and Vanessa (Jon, Luke, and Matthew), and step mother Bernadette. Predeceased by her parents Tom and Shirley. And Wades siblings Tim (Mary Jane, Chad, Lexie, and Brandon), Kim (Mike, Bobby, Wyatt), Cara (Travis, and Chantel), Wades parents Bob and Marg (deceased). Truly Wendy’s biggest joy in life was being with her family. Wendy was very active over the years supporting the local skating and minor hockey clubs when her kids were young, whatever they were into she was into. Wendy worked at the Township of Muskoka Lakes for the past 19 years, and enjoyed working alongside her co-workers, putting a smile on their face from morning till night. Whether you knew Wendy for 10 minutes or 10 years She left a foot print in your heart. In recent years Wendy has traveled many miles on the back of Wades bike snuggled in behind him touring with their Delfago family. Wendy will be forever missed by her many family and friends. Comission, Paul William of Bracebridge, ON

COMISSION, Paul William Paul died at age 65 on Sunday, September 24, 2017 after a 14 year battle with heart failure. He was joking to the end and peacefully slipped away as the doctors at Toronto General Hospital struggled to save him. Paul was the much loved husband of Michael Anne MacDonald Comission, caring and devoted father of Andrew and his wife Amanda, Christopher and his wife Lea and the adored and adoring “Gumpah” – emphasis on the “Pah” – of Cali and Lauren Comission. Paul is also survived by his mother Pearl Comission of Port Carling and his brother Michael Comission of Port Carling. He is survived by a large extended family of cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and wonderful caring friends and comrades, who filled his life with much happiness. Paul was a gentle and caring soul. Paul never met a child, a dog or a horse that he did not love and that did not love him. He will be greatly missed. Paul was a proud member of the Port Carling Lions, Port Carling Legion – Branch 529, the Royal Newfoundland Regiment – Bulger’s Company of the Historic Military Establishments of Upper Canada and of the Gravenhurst Rifle and Revolver Club. Paul had a full life. We are grateful to the wonderful doctors, nurses and technicians, who kept him alive for so many years when his own body was letting him down. Memorial donations to the Port Carling Lions Seniors Residence or to Andy’s Place – The Andy Pott’s Memorial Foundation – Hospice Muskoka in Port Carling. In the end, he went gently into that good night without pain. He slept away, knowing he was much loved by so many. Paul’s ashes will be interred with his father at Glen Orchard Cemetery on October 28, 2017 with a Celebration of Life at 1:00 p.m. at the Port Carling Legion.

Passed away peacefully at Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre, Barrie on September 23rd, 2017 at the age of 76. An active member and supporter of the Barrie YMCA for over 50 years, Brian participated enthusiastically in a variety of community sports. His passion for physical activity, his ability to put fun into fitness and his love of kids were strongly evident throughout his long career as an educator. Principal at five elementary schools in the Simcoe County District School Board, he was also Principal of several rural schools before the current board was formed. He will be greatly missed by his many friends and by his family who love him very much: His wife Kathy, his daughters Lisa, Rhonda, Jacqueline, Alexandra and their partners; and grandchildren Hannah, Hayden, Harrison, Max and Holden. Powell.  She was the descendant of early Barrie pioneers, Richard Powell and Joanna Drynan and of their son, Richard Powell and Mary Trevelyan.  She received her education in Barrie and enjoyed a career as a bookkeeper.  Frances married her first husband, Charles Herbert Lawrence on June 1, 1946.  Together they raised five children in Barrie and eventually re-settled in Burlington.  Frances enjoyed gardening, cooking and reading mystery novels, but most of all, her love was for her family and the numerous dogs that she owned throughout her lifetime.  Frances was predeceased by her parents, her sisters Margaret (Peggy) Turnblom and Phyllis (Billie) Redman, her first husband Charles Herbert Lawrence, her second husband George Maxwell Ward and her eldest son Ronald J. Lawrence.  She is survived by her children, Mary (Randy) Stewart, David, Marcia and Geraldine (Steven) and daughter-in-law Joanne.  Also surviving are her grandchildren Sarah, Mark, Craig (Brittany), Shayla (Marshall), Paul (Kendra), Kevin and Adam and great grandchildren Christian, Joel, Kyle, Charlize, Lachlan and Brett.   The family would like to thank her caregivers, especially Dr. Thornton  and the compassionate staff at Hospice Simcoe for their support and caring.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her name to Hospice Simcoe or to the Canadian Cancer Society.  A memorial service will be held at a later date at The Terraces at Heritage Square, Barrie.

Johnston, Isabel of Barrie, ON

JOHNSTON, Isabel (“Belle”) (nee Steenson) born in Belfast, Northern Ireland September 17, 1932, passed in peace on Sunday, July 23, 2017 surrounded by family; she is now in the loving arms of her Lord. Survived by her devoted husband and companion of 64 years, Robert (“Bobby”), she will be remembered with love by her three sons and families: Kirk (Claire) of Salt Spring Island, British Columbia, Drew (Debra) of Barrie, Ontario, Craig (Linda) of Barrie, Ontario. Dear Gran to: Cullin, Erika, Rachel, Alec, great grandson Akua.  She will be sadly missed by dear friend Reverend June Mawhinney of Toronto. Belle came to Canada as a young bride in 1953. She and Bobby enjoyed many joyful years extending love and hospitality and gave a warm welcome into their home to countless visitors from Ireland. They shared adventures, travel and a full life blessed with good friends and loving family. Isabel especially enjoyed Barrie’s waterfront where she and Bobby walked their dog daily and rested at the South Shore looking over the bay. We will remember our family meals and Mum’s insistence that we all have enough to eat, “Will you have more”? “Here, have some more potatoes.” As per Isabel’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Egan, Thomas Anthony of Shelburne, ON formerly of St. Catharines, ON

Egan, Thomas Anthony – It is with profound sorrow that the family of Tom Egan announces his passing on Saturday, July 22, 2017, at the age of 64.  He was at home surrounded by his wife Carol of 44 years and his children.  Wonderful, loving father to Denise (Geoff) and grandchildren McKinnon, Paydon, Tegan and Colton; and son Tom (Lisa) and grandchildren Jesse, Ryan and Thomas. Predeceased by his parents Thomas and Rosina Egan, and sister Roseanne Egan. Survived by his sister Margaret (Randy), and brothers John (Ninetta), Terry and Robert. Loving brother-in-law to Paul McKinnon (Ann) and Joan Humby (Steve). Uncle to Matt and Jacob Bevan, Nicole, Michelle, Patrick, Renee, Michael Egan and Alex and Katie Bishop. Tom was so very proud of his community, serving on Town of Shelburne Council for 19 years to present, and was known for his honesty and integrity. Tom worked for Canadian Tire Acceptance for 24 years, and Ontario Lottery and Gaming for 17 years to present. He was a devoted member of the Kinsmen Club of Shelburne for over 20 years. A Celebration of Tom’s life will be held on Thursday, July 27, 2017 at the Shelburne Legion, 203 William Street from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., with a memorial service to take place at 3:30 p.m. Condolences can be made to www.drivercremation.ca  In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a charity close to your heart.  As Tom would always say, “It doesn’t hurt to be nice.
