Fraser, Dorothy (nee Grant) – Passed away peacefully at Mill Creek Care Centre, Barrie on Friday, September 15, 2017 in her 83rd year. She will be greatly missed by her loving husband Ken of 64 years. Dear mother of Grant (Caroline), Murray (Darla), Aleda (Scott) and Bruce (Sue). Loving grandmother of Courtney, Heather, Austin, Sarah and 3 great grandchildren. ROSE, Donna Eileen (MacMillan) nee Webb – Passed away peacefully knowing she was well loved with family by her side on Monday, September 4th, 2017. Donna Rose, a long time lady of Innisfil had recently celebrated her 79 birthday. Beloved great friend and wife of Doug Rose. The World’s Best Mom to Don (Shelley) MacMillan, Kelly Buckley, Valerie Lalonde and the late Bonnie (Matt) Watts. Amazing Nana and now Angel to Garrett, Jessica, Joshua (Samantha), Zachary, Jonathan (Tabathia), Cody and Kristy. Great Grandmother to Melody.  Cherished sister of the late Teddy and Ken Webb. Bacon, Merlyn – It was with great sadness that we said goodbye to our dearly beloved Merlyn Bacon on August 27, 2017 at the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre, Barrie. He will be forever loved and missed by his wife Helen, children Diana (Robert), Paul (Kristie), Kimberley (Andrew), grandchildren Breeann and Bryan.  Step-children Janice, Debra (Gordon), Stephen (Karen), Michael (Johanne), Lynn (Mark), grandchildren  Drew (Nicolette), Spencer, Cole (Gina), Shauna, Laurence, Alexandre and great grandchild Hannah. Ward, Frances Elizabeth Mary of Barrie, Ontario

It is with great sadness that the family of Frances Elizabeth Mary Ward announce her passing.  In her 94th year, Frances was dearly loved and died peacefully at Hospice Simcoe on August 2, 2017.  Frances was born on October 19, 1923, the first-born child of Oscar E. Shank and Annie M. Powell.  She was the descendant of early Barrie pioneers, Richard Powell and Joanna Drynan and of their son, Richard Powell and Mary Trevelyan.  She received her education in Barrie and enjoyed a career as a bookkeeper.  Frances married her first husband, Charles Herbert Lawrence on June 1, 1946.  Together they raised five children in Barrie and eventually re-settled in Burlington.  Frances enjoyed gardening, cooking and reading mystery novels, but most of all, her love was for her family and the numerous dogs that she owned throughout her lifetime.  Frances was predeceased by her parents, her sisters Margaret (Peggy) Turnblom and Phyllis (Billie) Redman, her first husband Charles Herbert Lawrence, her second husband George Maxwell Ward and her eldest son Ronald J. Lawrence.  She is survived by her children, Mary (Randy) Stewart, David, Marcia and Geraldine (Steven) and daughter-in-law Joanne.  Also surviving are her grandchildren Sarah, Mark, Craig (Brittany), Shayla (Marshall), Paul (Kendra), Kevin and Adam and great grandchildren Christian, Joel, Kyle, Charlize, Lachlan and Brett.   The family would like to thank her caregivers, especially Dr. Thornton  and the compassionate staff at Hospice Simcoe for their support and caring.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her name to Hospice Simcoe or to the Canadian Cancer Society.  A memorial service will be held at a later date at The Terraces at Heritage Square, Barrie.

JOHNSTON, Isabel (“Belle”) (nee Steenson) born in Belfast, Northern Ireland September 17, 1932, passed in peace on Sunday, July 23, 2017 surrounded by family; she is now in the loving arms of her Lord. Survived by her devoted husband and companion of 64 years, Robert (“Bobby”), she will be remembered with love by her three sons and families: Kirk (Claire) of Salt Spring Island, British Columbia, Drew (Debra) of Barrie, Ontario, Craig (Linda) of Barrie, Ontario. Dear Gran to: Cullin, Erika, Rachel, Alec, great grandson Akua.  She will be sadly missed by dear friend Reverend June Mawhinney of Toronto. Belle came to Canada as a young bride in 1953. She and Bobby enjoyed many joyful years extending love and hospitality and gave a warm welcome into their home to countless visitors from Ireland. They shared adventures, travel and a full life blessed with good friends and loving family. Isabel especially enjoyed Barrie’s waterfront where she and Bobby walked their dog daily and rested at the South Shore looking over the bay. We will remember our family meals and Mum’s insistence that we all have enough to eat, “Will you have more”? “Here, have some more potatoes.” As per Isabel’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Egan, Thomas Anthony – It is with profound sorrow that the family of Tom Egan announces his passing on Saturday, July 22, 2017, at the age of 64.  He was at home surrounded by his wife Carol of 44 years and his children.  Wonderful, loving father to Denise (Geoff) and grandchildren McKinnon, Paydon, Tegan and Colton; and son Tom (Lisa) and grandchildren Jesse, Ryan and Thomas. Predeceased by his parents Thomas and Rosina Egan, and sister Roseanne Egan. Survived by his sister Margaret (Randy), and brothers John (Ninetta), Terry and Robert. Loving brother-in-law to Paul McKinnon (Ann) and Joan Humby (Steve). Uncle to Matt and Jacob Bevan, Nicole, Michelle, Patrick, Renee, Michael Egan and Alex and Katie Bishop. Tom was so very proud of his community, serving on Town of Shelburne Council for 19 years to present, and was known for his honesty and integrity. Tom worked for Canadian Tire Acceptance for 24 years, and Ontario Lottery and Gaming for 17 years to present. He was a devoted member of the Kinsmen Club of Shelburne for over 20 years. Grandmother (known as Lulu) of Isabella, Blake, Madeline, Matthew, Ty, Drew, and Jane. Brother of Blake (Sue) Francis. Mary Lou, along with Bob, were passionate followers and season ticket holders of the London Knights hockey team. Tenhaaf, Jacoba (Koosje, Kay), born July 5, 1922, passed away peacefully in Barrie on May 13, 2017 with her family at her side. Predeceased by her husband Henry (Hank) in 1996. Beloved mother of Catharine (Peter), Nell (John), Peter (MaryJane), John (Colleen), and Gary (Fiona). Much loved Grandmother of 10 and Great Grandmother of 7 (soon to be 8), and much loved Tante Koosje to many nieces and nephews in Canada and Holland.  Predeceased by grandson Dan in 2015.  Survived by her brothers Martin Cornelissen of Oakwood ON and Henricus Cornelissen in Holland. Rakestrow (Thygesen), Laura Janet – 52 years of Barrie, passed away at Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre, Barrie, ON after a short courageous battle with cancer on Thursday, May 18th, 2017. Born November 18th, 1964 in South Porcupine, she is the daughter of Corinne (Collins) and the late Jens Thygesen. She is survived by her husband Thomas Rakestrow and his parents: Tim and Norma Rakestrow. She is the loving mother of Amanda and Logan, plus Nan to Brett. She is the sister of Gord Thygesen and Bonnie (Thygesen) Prophet; sister-in-law to Gelsa DeOliveira Thygesen, Lorri (Rakestrow) Nash, Sherri (Rakestrow) Visser and husband Bob, and Dawn Rakestrow. She is aunt to James and wife Marichu, Andrew, Kristen, Amber, Michael, Joshua and Clyde and step-aunt to Amanda, Alessandra, and Sabrina, plus great-aunt to Maya, Kayla and Franchesca. Laura is niece and cousin to many in the Thygesen, Rakestrow and Collins families plus a good friend to many personal friends, neighbours and co-workers. Laura expressed her desire to see heaven and waits for us there. Our peace and comfort will be in knowing that she wishes this for all she knew. Thank you to the Cancer & Palliative Care Unit, Dr. S. Randy appreciated and cherished the simple things in life.  He always had a smile and a kind word for those he met. Truman, William Fredrick – On Wednesday, April 26th, William Fredrick Truman of Barrie, Ontario died peacefully at Simcoe Hospice at age 90. Born in Niagara Falls, Ontario on April 9th 1927 to John and Eva, he was a loving brother to Eva, May and Margaret. He is survived by Donna, his wife of 71 years, sister Zena, brother-in-law Tom, daughter Linda, grandchildren Peter and Amanda, and great grandchild Adelaide. Bill was a proud veteran and worked as a labourer for companies such as Oneita, General Electric and Tandy. He loved to bowl and was actively involved as a coach for youth.  Bill was also passionate about golf, walking and Mountain Dew. Beloved mother of Marty Burrowes, Edward (deceased) and Keith (deceased). Dorothy was a loving Grandma to Rikki Robinson (John) and Tristan Dunnett, Bracebridge, ON and a proud Great-Grandma to Lily, Kaleb and Journey. Dear sister to Kenneth Seth Rolston (Marion deceased) Uxbridge, ON; Kathleen Isabella Bogart (Rex) Barrie, ON; Keith George Laverne Rolston – Deceased (Betty) Toronto ON, Bryan Clinton Rolston – Deceased (Winnie) Brantford, ON and Sharon Minick (Larry) Barrie, ON. She will also be dearly missed by numerous nieces and nephews. Dorothy was a long-time employee and retiree of Proctor and Gamble (Hamilton). Archer, Lorrainne of Shanty Bay, ON

Archer, Lorraine –  89 years of Shanty Bay, passed away with loved ones by her side at the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre, Barrie on Friday April 14th 2017. Born April 5th 1928 in Toronto, she was the daughter of William and Lillian Johnston and sister to Harold Johnston. Lorraine was deeply loved and will be missed by all. The loving mother of Shelly Armitage, Randy Gow and his wife, Sandra Crann. Grandmother to Nicole, Alexis, Brittney and Courtney. Great grandmother to John, Matthew, Dominick, Christopher, Marissa, Talia, Brynna and Avorie. We find peace in knowing Lorraine can now rest with her late husband, Don Archer. Thank you to the Cancer & Palliative Care Unit and the countless people that made Lorraine’s last days with us comfortable and filled with love. A funeral is scheduled for Friday, April 21 at 1:00PM at St. Thomas Anglican Church in her beloved village of Shanty Bay. Reception to follow. Arrangements entrusted to Marshall W. O’Rourke, Mary-lou of Toronto, ON

On Wednesday, April 05, 2017 at Mathews House Hospice in Alliston, at age 71, Mary-lou (nee Bartley)  of Toronto, went peacefully in her sleep. Mary-lou was a beloved sister of Michael Bartley and his wife Mary-Florence, Gloria Carter (deceased),and aunt of Laurel Arnott (nee Nanos),  David Bartley (deceased), and his wife Helen and aunt of John Bartley and his wife Colleen and great aunt of Ryan. Mary-lou was predeceased by her father David Bartley Sr. and her mother Alice Bellehumeur. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that expressions of sympathy be made through donations to Mathews House Hospice, Alliston, Ontario, or your local Hospice care facility.

van der Krabben, Matheus ( Martin) Cornelis, January 16, 1937 – February 25, 2017- At Sunnybrook Health Sciences, Toronto on Saturday, February 25, 2017. Dearly beloved husband of Maria Giezen of Barrie. Dearly beloved father of John (Sharon), Rita (Rick). Beloved grandfather of Ashley (Adam), Matthew (Shelby) Michelle and Timothy. Also survived by many brothers and sisters in Holland. At Martin’s request there will be no service. Brunne, Betty Marie of Barrie, formerly of Fenlon Falls & Uxbridge

Brunne, Betty Marie  – 1929-2017  After a brief illness and surrounded by her loving family Betty went to be with her Lord in the wee hours of Wednesday, February 22nd. She is survived by her husband  of 67 years Norman, her children; Barb (Charlie), Vicki (Brian), Dave (Marlene), Chris (Laura);  7 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren. Betty and Norm lived in Uxbridge for over twenty years, before living on the river in beautiful Fenelon Falls. From Fenelon they moved to Stroud, for many quiet years. As time past they condensed their lives to apartments  in Tollendale Village then to and currently Roberta Place, both in Barrie. Betty and Norm  were also snowbirds, enjoying the company of her cousins residing in the Lake Worth area as well as many fellow Canadians. Special thanks goes out to Dr. Elsey and Dr. Orva for their kind and considerate care of our dear Betty in her final days. All the staff at RVH for their thoughtful and understanding care. There will be a service of remembrance and celebration of life on Saturday, March 4th at Burton Avenue United Church, Barrie (37 Burton Avenue, Barrie, Ontario) Visitation from 1:00-2:00pm prior to the service at 2:00pm followed by a reception with refreshments. DEJONG, Wiebe (Bill) passed away peacefully at Hospice Simcoe, Barrie on Sunday, February 12, 2017.  Bill leaves behind his wife Barbara Ivy DeJong, his son Jeffery DeJong, his grandson Rein DeJong Willis and Rein’s mother Paola Willis.  Predeceased by his daughter Lora Mae DeJong. He also leaves behind family both here and in the Netherlands. He will be fondly remembered by many friends, co-workers and acquaintances. A celebration of life to remember this special man will take place Saturday, February 18, 2017 at 1 pm from North Barrie United Church, 464 Ferndale Drive North, Barrie.
