Cummins, Rosemary of Sarnia

 

Rosemary Cummins born 1951 in Birkenhead, England passed away peacefully on Friday April 21 at Bluewater Health Hospital in Sarnia, Ontario after a courageous battle with cancer. 

Rosemary the daughter of Tom Curwen and the late Barbara Curwen was the adoring Mum to Deborah, Courtney, Sean and daughter-in-law Cora. 

Rosemary was the doting Nana to her grandchildren Kale and Nico and ‘fur mum’ to Charlotte and Sophie. 

She was the loving sister to Tom, Ada, Barbara (Betty) and Diane.  Aunt to 7 nieces and nephews and beloved friend to many. 

Rose was extremely generous, loving and caring and was a dedicated employee at Community Living Sarnia for over 20 years where she was devoted to helping others. 

Rosemary loved animals, traveling, The Beatles, autobiographies, watching movies and finding a bargain! She will always be remembered for her smile, contagious laugh , great sense of humour and also her strength and bravery right to the very end. 

Special thanks to Garry, Bonnie, Luanne, Jen, Glynis, Sarka and the amazing staff at Bluewater Health, Windsor Cancer Clinic and Paramed. 

Rosemary will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Lester, Lenard Wellington of Sarnia

Peacefully at Bluewater Health on Thursday April 20, 2017 LENARD WELLINGTON LESTER age 77 of Sarnia.  Beloved husband of Patricia May (Huff) Lester.  Loving father of Connie Louks, Carmen Lamb and Patty Crawford.  Cherished grandfather of Courtney, Patrick, Katy, Justin, Trisha, Christopher, Madison, Kiera and great grandson Jayden.  Dear brother of Eva Robertson, Bruce Lester, Jean Stewart, Murray Lester and Joyce Philp.  Also survived by many nieces and nephews.  Predeceased by his father Earl Douglas Lester (1971), mother Kathleen Margaritte Lester (2012), brothers Kenneth (1966) and Douglas (1991) and daughters Pamela Ann Murphy (2002) and Janet Diane Lester (1971).  Lenard retired from Canada post after  35 years of service, but more importantly he was a Santa Claus for many years.   Resting at the D. J. ROBB FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION CENTRE where the family will receive friends on Sunday April 23rd between the hours of 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.  Cremation will follow and a memorial service will be held at All Saints Anglican Church at a later date.  Sympathy may be expressed through donations to the Lambton Lung association.

HORNBOSTEL, Lynn of Petrolia

At the age of 66, Donna “Lynn” Hornbostel passed away on Friday, April 14th, 2017 at Meadowview Villa in Petrolia, Ontario.  Born January 12, 1951, she is predeceased by her parents, Richard and Donna Hall of Sarnia, Ontario.

Lynn was a long-time resident of Sarnia and moved to Petrolia in 2009. She loved spending time with her friends and family. She enjoyed camping, listening to music and spending Sunday nights with friends at the Bridge Tavern in Point Edward.  Lynn loved to travel and take road trips to her favourite destinations such as Niagara Falls, Florida, Chicago and Branson.

Lynn is survived by her brothers Dennis Hall and Gerry Hall; son Derek (Kim) Hornbostel; two daughters Dawn (Don) Mitchell and Devon Hornbostel; and four grandchildren McLayne, Kwynlyn and Gueryn Mitchell, and Keegan Hornbostel.

A heartfelt thank you is extended to Dr. Daniel and the exceptional nurses and support staff at Meadowview Villa in Petrolia for their wonderful care.

McMAHON, DONALD: It is with saddened hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Donald Bruce McMahon, age 88 of Sarnia at Vision Nursing Home on Wednesday, March 29, 2017. He was the loving husband of the late Frieda (Tennant) McMahon (2009) and the dear loved father of daughters Dianna Fulton, Cindy McMahon (Walter), Bonnie Bruton (Wayne) and his son Jeff McMahon (Patti), his daughter in law Linda McMahon. He also leaves behind his loving grandchildren Heather (Marc), Shaun (Jen), Steven, Jill, Shane and Derek, great-grandfather of Bella, Chelsea, Camden and Lillian and sister in law Arlene Johnson and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Dennis (2000), his parents Lewis and Grace and his eight brothers and sisters. Don was retired from the City of Sarnia Works Department where he worked for over 30 years. He enjoyed his family, country music, the outdoors, old cars and his beloved dogs he had over the years. VIOLET FRANCES “CAM” ADLAM – It is with deeply saddened hearts that we announce the passing of Violet Frances “Cam” Adlam on Friday, March 24th, 2017 at Bluewater Health in Sarnia at the age of 101 years. She was the loving wife of the late Ernest Maxted “Ted” Adlam (1990) and dear mother of Maxted Adlam and his wife Sandra of Sarnia, David Adlam and his wife Violet of South Houston, Texas. Grandmother of: Karen, Kristen, Deborah, Christopher and Timothy. Great-grandmother of: Amber, Brandon, Brinley, Britton, Max and Sam. She was predeceased by her parents Catherine Campbell and Horace Wyndham Rodda, her son Max (2016) and his wife Sandy (2015). Her mother’s ill health forced her to place Violet into an adoptive family until she reached her early teens. Her father, Mr. Rodda, a member of the State Staff of the Royal Household, helped her obtain a position at Buckingham Palace. She delighted in relating how she sat on the king’s throne when no one was looking. In 1949 she emigrated from England on the liner RMS Aquitania, shepherding her two boys to Canada where she met up with her husband who had arrived earlier. She was a fixture for years at the Village Variety store in Point Edward and was well-known and well-loved by the community. Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the funeral home on Thursday, March 30th, between the hours of 2:00 to 4:00 pm. Funeral services will be held at the D. J. ROYAL, Marielle of Point Edward

ROYAL  MARIELLE – Marielle Royal, age 71 of Sarnia, peacefully passed away on Wednesday March 15, 2017 at the St. Joseph’s Hospice. She was born to the late Albert Gendron and Lilianne Gendron on June 5, 1945 and will be joining them along with her late best friend Larry Cunningham and late husband Tom Royal. Marielle was a dedicated member of the Sarnia Golf and Curling Club for many years where she made many lifelong friends. Marielle also spent most of her adult life as a member of the Blue Mountain Ski club and not only enjoyed but excelled in playing cards. Family and close friends were Marielle’s passion and delight. She will be missed by all. Marielle leaves behind her children Laurie, Alan and Heather Cunningham, grandchildren Lynn and Jennifer Brownlee and Mitchell and Spencer Cunningham, great grandchildren Jesse Brownlee, Kaydence Perkins, Kodee and Landon Brownlee. Marielle is also survived by many cherished lifelong friends. A private family service has taken place at Marielle’s wishes, with a memorial for friends to be held at a later date. LONG, RONALD – At Bluewater Health on Tuesday, March, 7, 2017, Ronald James Long, age 59 of Sarnia passed away. He was the loving husband and companion of Mary MacColl, son of Selena Hurst and one of nine children. He was predeceased by his father James Long. Ron was a member of Boilermakers-Local #128 of Sarnia. Ron loved the outdoors; hunting, fishing and gardening. Cremation has taken place.             BAXTER- RANDY IAN, passed away at his residence on February 8, 2017 at the age of 55. Randy worked in Environmental Services for 35 years at Bluewater Health and he was an avid sports fanatic. Cremation has taken place and there will be a memorial service held at the D. J. DAVIES- LOIS EMELINE, (nee Henderson) of Sarnia, surrounded by her family passed away at Marshall Gowland Manor on February 12, 2017 at the age of 79. Beloved mother to Jim Davies (Lorie Ann), Doug Davies, Sue McGeachy (Dave) and Rick Davies (Wendy).  

Grandma to Brianna, Mike, Joshua, Caleb, Charity, Joel, Jewel, Shawna and Leah.   

Predeceased by, her husband Norman Davies (2000) and her sister Beryl Steadman. Lois was a long time employee at Polysar, she did so much with SMAA involvement, spent her time knitting, crafting and she was an avid teddy bear collector. Lois spent time in the garden and travelling with family and friends. She will always be remembered for her enormous generosity and her kind and gentle nature. The family would like to express their huge appreciation to the staff at Marshall Gowland Manor for their compassion and loving care for Lois during her stay there.

A Funeral service will be held at the D. J. Robb Funeral Home & Cremation Centre (102 N. Victoria St., Sarnia) on February 17, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Dr. William Steadman officiating. Visitation will take place on Thursday 16, 2017 between the hours of 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.

Soden, Paul Gilmour of Corunna

On Saturday February 11 2017 Paul Soden passed away suddenly at Victoria hospital in London at the age of 68.

He leaves behind his two sons, Eric (Venus) Soden of Toronto and Jonathan (Eric) Mugridge
of California.

Survived by his  loving partner Carol Windover and her sons Craig (Lindsay), Chris and Scott (Amy) and granddaughter Cassie.

Predeceased by parents Edward and Edith Soden,  brother Terrance Soden and Step father  Ray Stebbins. Survived by brothers Bud (Liz) and Larry ( Jan) and their families. Grandfather to Alex and Aiden. Beloved by his extended family, uncle to Marnie, Phillip, Dan, Alyssa, Kasha, Bailey and Courtney.

Paul held a Music degree and was a talented musician that traveled North America in his youth. As well Paul played Cello for the International Symphony Orchestra of Sarnia and Port Huron. Paul retired from a career as a dental technician.

Visitation will be held at the D. J. ROBB FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE on Wednesday February 15th from the hours of 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 7:00 to 9:00 pm with services at 8:00 pm. Private family interment on Saturday February 18th at 10:00 am at Resurrection Cemetery.

Suddenly at Guelph General Hospital on Thursday, February 9, 2017.  SHERMAN MANESS, passed away at the age of 67; formerly of Sarnia. Beloved life partner of Sharon Wayling of 23 years and his cat Tovah. Dear son of the late Arthur and Elvira (nee Jackson) Maness. Sherman is survived by his sisters; Sandra (Marc) Mok and Sharren (Ray) Fisher. Sherman will be deeply missed by his many cherished friends and family in Guelph. Sherman enjoyed playing darts and played at Wolly and Fat Duck Pub. He was also a member of the Guelph Royal City Slo Pitch League for more than two decades. He was involved with the Friendship Centre movement for many years, working with the Ontario Federation of  Indigenous Friendship Centres. The family wishes to thank the caring staff of 4th. floor at the Guelph General Hospital. He will be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, and friends.  Norm retired after many years of working in the Mining Industry.  He enjoyed spending time with his friends and family fishing and hunting.  This very kind and generous man will be greatly missed.

Memorial and interment will be held in Lake St. Peter in the spring.  In lieu of flowers please make donations to the M. S. Society.

SALTER, MYRTLE – Sadly, on Sunday February 5, 2017 Madeline “Myrtle” (Scott) Salter passed away at her condo in Sarnia in her 104th year. Dear Mother of Richard Lucas (Ilderton) and his wife Christina Hogan, sister to Barbara Brennan (Sarnia). Dear Grandmother of Janet (Mike), Steven (Justyna), Michelle, Shawn, Marcie & Todd. She was a great-grandmother to several grandchildren and will be sadly missed by her nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her 1st husband James Wesley Lucas (1974) and her 2nd husband Wilfred  Douglas Salter (2008), her son Robert Wesley Lucas (2014), sisters Beryl Sutherland (1981), Lucy Wicks (2013) and brothers Stanley Scott (1998) Richard Scott (1927). Myrtle was born July 4, 1913 in Melita Manitoba. She gathered many friends over the years. She was well read and travelled to many different places. She was witty, smart and loved her bridge nights and talked often about her volunteer time with the Red Cross. As of late she enjoyed doing the daily Observer crossword puzzle, her Tim Hortons coffee time with her sister Barbara, her weekly visits with her son Richard and Sunday drives with grandnieces Carol and Lisa. Funeral Services will be held at the D. J. Robb Funeral Home & Cremation Centre (102 N. Victoria St., Sarnia) on Saturday, February 10th at 11:00 am. MOODY: CHARLOTTE “JEAN” OF SARNIA

Moody, Charlotte Jean– Passed away peacefully on Monday, January 30, 2017, at St. Joseph’s  Hospice  House at the age of 92. Charlotte “Jean” is survived by nieces Blanche ( Raymer ) Weir,  Kathy ( Mike ) Mervich and Lori ( Don ) Hoffman and  many great nieces and nephews.  She was the beloved wife of the late Leslie Alexander Moody and dear friend of the late Edward Kearney.  She was predeceased by her parents George and Ethel Wise and her sisters Edith Wise, Hazel Spring, Martha Lamb and Stella Bealer.  Also predeceased by nieces Donna Havens and Beverly Wolfe. “Jean” was a longtime, faithful member of Central United Church. She loved to go camping, do crossword puzzles and crochet. In the fall, she completed 37 milk bag mats in a 12 month period for the Third World, earning the honorary title as Central’s Master Mat Maker.  She was housebound the last few years and appreciated the loving support of Helen Karr, Hazel Shymko, Lee Molitor, Nancy Andrews, VON caregiver Vicki Stothers and the Kearney family.  A remembrance and celebration of her life will be held at D. J. Robb Funeral Home Tuesday February 7. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 1 – 2pm prior to the 2pm service officiated by Reverend Lilian Patey.  Private burial will be at Lakeview Cemetery. EVANS, JUDY, ANNE- passed away at Bluewater Health on January 27, 2017 at the age of 68 years.  Dear mother to Bill (Stephanie) Haight and Jeff (Kristin) Haight.  Loving grandma to Andrew, Kara, Ben and Tom Haight.  Sister Cathy Ritchie. Judy was a devoted Registered Nurse and had worked all over the globe for over 30 years doing what she loved.  In Judy’s retirement she was an avid painter and loved spending time in her garden. The family would like to give a special thanks to the Bluewater Health I.C.U nurse Elizabeth and everyone who helped Judy during her stay at the Hospital.  Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at the D. J. Robb Funeral Home & Cremation Centre (102 N. Victoria St., Sarnia) on Friday February 3, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation beginning an hour prior to service time at 10:00 a.m.

Memorial donations in memory of Judy may be made to the Myasthenia Gravis Society of Canada.

MOORE: RALPH, CARL OF SARNIA

RALPH CARL MOORE- passed away at Bluewater Health on January 24, 2017. A teenage farm boy from Moore’s lane grew to become a skilled tradesman and a proud member of Local 663. He served a term as president of both the Chamber of Commerce and the Sarnia Construction Association during his working years. He built the RABAR. Ralph was predeceased by his parents W.H. “Harry” and Reta (Haslip) Moore, his sister Trudy (Moore) Polak, and his elder son Ralph W. Moore. He was greatly loved by his wife Barbara ( Robinson) Moore and all his family: Brent Moore, son of Ralph’s elder son and Brent’s children Haley, Majofsky, Tala Moore and Brayden Moore; his son Dan,  wife Cheryl and sons Kevin and Mark; his daughter Bette (Moore) Woodley and her daughter Sarah Kell, who with her partner Jason Kell has just presented us with our latest addition, three month old Hunter; his daughter Lori (Moore) Zonneville and her daughters Erika (Melanie) and Rebecca and Becca’s two children Wayne and Aubrey. The Moore family stands tall together so we are sure Ralph will be long remembered and often spoken of by his brothers Gerald (Grace) and Charles “Chuck” (Suzanne, Deceased) and by his sisters Beverly Richards (Jim) and Linda Ryan (Doug). There will be a Celebration of Ralph’s life from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. on February 4, 2017 at the D. J. Robb Funeral Home and Cremation Center, (102 Victoria St. N. Sarnia On).  In of Lieu of flowers donations to St. Joseph’s Hospice would be appreciated checks only at the funeral home please.

Myers, Dorothy Winifred

Peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 in her 91st year Dorothy Winifred Myers passed away and will join her husband, the late Rev. Lorne A. Myers in Heaven. Beloved mother of Deryn Harkness and her husband Graham; and her late son David Kimberley. Beloved grandmother of Ed Kimberley and his partner Mandy Rice; and Tina Kimberley and her partner Nathan Raaymakers. Beloved great grandmother to Ethan and Owen Raaymakers. Beloved sister of Margaret Winward and the late Guy Winward; and John Perry and the late Mae Perry. Also will be missed by many nieces and nephews.

A private graveside service will be officiated by Reverend Steve Harnadek at a later time. 

Sympathy may be expressed through memorial donations to The Canadian Red Cross.
