Promoted to Glory on Sunday, May 20, 2018, STANLEY RALPH HARDING, at Fiddick’s Nursing Home, Petrolia, Ontario at the age of 94. Stan was born on April 5, 1924 in Hereford England to the late Charles and Violet Harding. Stanley was a retired locomotive engineer for the Canadian National Railroad. He was a Sarnia resident for most of his life and was a member of the Salvation Army where he was a retired Corp Sergeant Major. Will be greatly missed by his sibling’s ; sister’s Irene Page and her husband the late Robert, the late Joan Charbonneau and her husband Robert, Joyce Zygaj and her husband Tom, brother’s James Rowe and his wife the late Roselle and John Rowe. Much loved uncle of Charles Scott and Stan’s loving son James Arnold and several nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephew’s .Services will be held at the Salvation Army Sarnia Community Church (970 Confederation Street, Sarnia) on Friday, May 25, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. with interment to follow at Lakeview Cemetery. Pieters-Lensen, Aleida of Sarnia

 

 

PIETERS-LENSEN, ALEIDA – Very peacefully at Bluewater Health, Aleida passed away on May 11, 2018 in her 90th year.  Aleida is now reunited with her loving husband Henricus (1993).  Dear mother to Henry (Carol), John (Cynthia), Johanna (Eric) and Ron (Karen). She will be missed by her 15 grandchildren, their spouses and her 15 great grandchildren.  Aleida is survived by her brother Yuur, sister Thea and many nieces and nephews in the Netherlands. Aleida and her family immigrated to Canada in 1953.  Although she was proud of her Canadian citizenship, she never forgot her Dutch heritage, and would regularly travel back to Holland to visit family and friends.  Leida was an accomplished seamstress, cook and loved to knit.  She took great pleasure in sharing her creations with family and friends.  She had an amazing sense of style and was an avid shopper.  She will be remembered for her adventurous heart, her youthful and ‘spunky’ spirit which allowed her to live independently until the final few months of her life.

 

The family would like to express sincere gratitude to Dr Kim and the nurses and support workers on the Palliative Care Team for their attentive and compassionate care prior to and during Leida’s hospital stay. Thank you to Pastor Dave and her Church Community who welcomed her with open arms and continued to visit her regularly.    

 

Celebration of life will be held at First Christian Reformed Church (1105 Exmouth St. Sarnia N7S 1W5) on Saturday May 26, 2018 at 11:00 am. It is with great sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of Beverly Charlene Thompson at Bluewater Health on Wednesday, May 9, 2018. Beverly is now reunited with her most precious grandson Nathan Thompson who passed away in 2007. She is survived by her husband Mike Thompson of over 47 happy years, Beverly will be sorely missed by her 2 sons David Thompson his wife Stacey and Kevin Thompson his wife Jen and by her adoring grandchildren Natasha, Nicolette, Hunter, Adam, Cashius, Nevaeh and Nya . She is also survived by siblings Lloyd Shortt (Laurel), Vicki Drydak (David), Karen Scott (Matt), Peggy Lamont (Doug),Tammy Shortt, Phyllis Welch (Don) and was predeceased by her parents Barbara and Lloyd Shortt Sr. and sister Grace Ann and nephew Less Shortt. Beverly will be missed by a host of nieces and nephew, extended family and her many friend’s as well as her dog Chloe. Beverly was a custodian at St. Clair High school. At age 72, ROBERT JOHN DUPEE passed away at his residence in Sarnia. He is survived by his son David John Dupee (Lynda), daughter Alice Ann Dupee (Max), grandchildren Nolan, Tanner, Marina, Ryleigh and great grandchild Callie. Robert was the proud owner of Dupee Roofing. The company was first established in 1917 by his grandfather. He was passionate about his company, his clients and fellow associates. Those who new Robert would surely have a story to tell from his early days of drag racing to his barstool days and playing pool. He was loved and will be missed. Rest easy “Mr. Mopar”; see you again “above and beyond”. Cremation has taken place. Private family ceremony for interment will take place at a later date. Bill is also survived by many nieces and nephews and extended family in the Dominican Republic. Predeceased by his two sisters Harriet (Bailey) Ford, Ruthann Harmsworth and his brother Charles Gilbert; both his parents Richard and Ruth Gilbert. Bill had worked with the Lambton Kent school board for many years and loved volunteering with many organizations in Sarnia. He loved to sing God’s praises. His motto was in life “Heart to God hand to mankind.” Family and friends will be received at the funeral home on Sunday April 8, 2018 between the hours of 2:00pm – 4:00pm and 7:00pm – 9:00pm. Stark: Caroline Elizabeth of Sarnia

Caroline Elizabeth Stark, age 88, died on Monday, April 2, 2018, in Sarnia, Ontario. Caroline Stark was born on June 1, 1929 in Houghton, Saskatchewan, to parents Frank Emerson Stark and Sarah Jane (Ruddick) Stark. Caroline was the youngest, pre-deceased by brothers; Chris, John, Burt, Stan and Lloyd. She graduated from St. Joseph’s School of Nursing, London in 1950 as a Registered Nurse and attended the University of Western Ontario for Nursing Administration in 1957. She worked for St. Joseph’s Hospital, Sarnia and Sarnia General Hospital, Victorian Order of Nursing Brockville, Westminster Hospital, London, and finished her career at Sarnia General Hospital. Carrie was a wonderful aunt, great aunt and great – great aunt. She will be missed by many loving nieces and nephews. Carrie appreciated all their love, support and care over the years. She adored the dogs and cats who shared her home. Her family and friends will always remember her as a person of great faith. Carrie gives thanks to Sally Hummel, her friend and mentor. The family would also like to thank Donna Archer and Bonnie Reid who helped her remain happy and content in her home for many years. Eileen retired from Polysar where she worked as a secretary. She was a former Elder at St. Paul’s United Church and was a member of the United Church Women. She loved to travel and play Bridge and Euchre. Walt and Eileen were also longtime members of the Sarnia Lawn Bowling Club. A Funeral Service will be held at the D.J. VISCOUNT ALBERT JOSEPH – Left us peacefully on March 3, 2018 at Bluewater Health at the age of 74. He was born May 13, 1943, in Cornwall, Ontario. Albert leaves behind his loving wife Mary Viscount; Loving father to Katreena Daoust of Sault Ste. Marie, Morris Viscount of Windsor, Vera Viscount of B.C., and Douglas Whatley of Windsor. Siblings Elaine DiDonato of Florida, Veronica Murphy of Florida, Frances Viscount of B.C., Agnes St. Pierre of Cornwall and John Barry of Sarnia. He also leaves behind his sister in law Edith Strachlin of Cornwall, and his many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Albert was predeceased by his parents Albert and Catherine Viscount (nee White) and his siblings Rudy, Gary, Cathy and Margaret as well as children Albert and Jerry. Albert spent his life working hard to provide for his family. It was his passion to build smoke free homes in Vancouver Island, Windsor, Amherstburg and Cornwall. Albert owned and operated a motel in Canmore, Alberta as well as owning Al-Mar maintenance janitorial and Viscount Homes which both were headed in Cornwall, Ontario. Albert was happily married to the love of his life Mary Viscount for forty six wonderful years. Together they shared their time travelling to different places, meeting new friends and making wonderful memories. Albert will always be remembered for his quick wit, his love of laughter, and that he always put the care, compassion and well-being for others before his own. In keeping with Albert’s wishes cremation has taken place and there will be an interment in Woodlawn Cemetery in Cornwall which will be announced at a later date. TOMPKINS, Corky of Sarnia

TOMPKINS, CORKY – Clitheroe (Corky) Wellington Tompkins at the age of 87 fell asleep in death to await a resurrection to a paradise earth. He loved this hope and talked about it to anyone with a listening ear. Knowing Corky meant you knew of his favourite place on earth, Biscotasing. Born and raised in the ‘bush’ with endless tales of exploration, hard work, cutting ice from the lake and friendships. He made sure his family experienced the north and encouraged our love of it. He also spent time working in the mines at Inco as a Millwright and also as a Stationary Engineer in chemical valley. Corky loved to talk shop and had an incredible memory of every incident at work. He was the beloved and best friend of his wife Faith. He was predeceased by his daughter Betty Ann Tompkins and his grandson Luke O’Reilly. He was the dear father to Brenda Williams (Steve), Bruce Tompkins (Lilly), Mark Tompkins (Junior), Cheryl Tompkins, Glendon Tompkins (Judy), Melissa Tompkins and Amy Tompkins (Stirling). He loved to brag that he had 18 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Corky was a generous and kind person. So much so that it kept his heart strong many years after ‘the best before date’. The family would like to thank Dr. Madison and the St. Joseph’s Hospice. Also special thanks to Joe Roy who called Corky every day and Rod Sewell who was a good and steadfast friend. A memorial service will be held on Saturday February 24 at 2 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 550 Murphy Road, Sarnia Ontario. Suddenly at home on Saturday, February 3, 2018, Edith Moore age 88 of Sarnia. Beloved wife of the late Charles Francis Moore (2003). Much loved mother of Jim, Deirdre (Larry) and Connie (Ron). Cherished grandmother of Sarah, Rebecca, Jamie, Lauren, Charlie, Christopher and Ryan. Dear great grandmother to Joscelyn and Leo. Will be  missed by her siblings; Frank (Betty), Mary, Barb (Bob), Lil and Clare (Barney) as well as several nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place. Interment will be at a later date. GLENN, MARJORY – At St. Joseph’s Hospice on Sunday, February 4, 2018, Marjory Bertha (Campbell) Glenn, age 96 of Sarnia passed away peacefully with her family by her side. She was the loving wife of the late Ross Logie Glenn (1999) and dear mother of Sandra Stuchberry (Fred), David Glenn (Janet) and Kathryn Glenn. She was the loving grandmother of Mary Clemens (David), Jeff Stuchberry (Angie), Paul Stuchberry (Rachel), Jennifer Mackey (Robert), Brenda Lea (Tim) and Julie Sousa (Steven) and great-grandmother of Tavis, Rachel, Gabriela, Emily, Megan, Sarah, Kate, Violet, Nicholas and Spencer. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Marjory was predeceased by her parents, four sisters and a brother. She was a special friend to many people. Marjory was born in Ridgetown in 1921 and was a resident of Sarnia since 1941. She was a member of Paterson Memorial Presbyterian Church and the ESSO Annuitants Association. Cremation has taken place and a private family memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial donations made in memory of Marjory to the Kidney Foundation, Cystic Fibrosis or St. Joseph’s Hospice would be appreciated by the family. The arrangements have been entrusted to the D. J. SAYERS, LEONA – At Vision Nursing Home on Sunday, January 28, 2018, Anna “Leona” (Stonehouse) Sayers, age 88 of Sarnia passed away. She was the loving wife of the late George Rayburn Sayers and dear mother of Donald Sayers and loving grandmother of Brittany Sayers. She was predeceased by her parents John and Margaret (O’Neil) Stonehouse and her son Peter. Leona was born and raised in Sarnia and was a member of Dunlop United Church. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at the D. J. Robb Funeral Home & Cremation Centre (102 N. Victoria St., Sarnia) on Friday, February 2nd, 2018 at 1:30 pm. Visitation will begin an hour prior to the service on Friday at 12:30 pm. Private interment will be held at Lakeview Cemetery.
