Peacefully at Sumac Lodge in her 97th  year , Thelma Edith (nee McMullen) Saar, passed away on Tuesday, February 21, 2017. Predeceased by her husband Melvin Saar (1997). Will be missed by her son Harry Saar and grand-daughter Katlyn Saar. Also survived by her sister Muriel O’ Bright, brother Ronald (Lucy) McMullen and sister in-laws; Ellen Saar  and Audrey McMullen. As well as her nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.  Predeceased  by her parents LaDora and Lester McMullen of Woodstock,  brothers; Howard, Donnie, Hughie McMullen, sister Glenna McMillan as well as sister in – law’s; Jean and Wanda McMullan and brother in-law’s Bill O’Bright and Lloyd Saar . A funeral service will be held at the D.J. ROBB Funeral Home & CREMATION CENTRE (102 Victoria Street, North, Sarnia) on Friday, February 24, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. with visitation on Friday from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Interment to follow at Lakeview Cemetery.             BAXTER- RANDY IAN, passed away at his residence on February 8, 2017 at the age of 55. Beloved brother to Valarie Baxter, Tom Baxter, Tammy DeCarolis (Lenny), Tim Baxter and Tina Baxter (Bill) also survived by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his Life partner Fran Collier (2008), brother James Baxter (1988), mother Donna Baxter (2001), father Vern Baxter (2005) and sister Rose Baxter (2015). Randy worked in Environmental Services for 35 years at Bluewater Health and he was an avid sports fanatic. Cremation has taken place and there will be a memorial service held at the D. J. Robb Funeral Home & Cremation Centre (102 N. Victoria St., Sarnia) on Monday February 27, 2017 at 8p.m. with visitation between the hours of 7:00p.m. until 9:00 p.m.

DAVIES: LOIS EMELINE (NEE HENDERSON) OF SARNIA

DAVIES- LOIS EMELINE, (nee Henderson) of Sarnia, surrounded by her family passed away at Marshall Gowland Manor on February 12, 2017 at the age of 79. Beloved mother to Jim Davies (Lorie Ann), Doug Davies, Sue McGeachy (Dave) and Rick Davies (Wendy).  

Grandma to Brianna, Mike, Joshua, Caleb, Charity, Joel, Jewel, Shawna and Leah.   

Predeceased by, her husband Norman Davies (2000) and her sister Beryl Steadman. Lois was a long time employee at Polysar, she did so much with SMAA involvement, spent her time knitting, crafting and she was an avid teddy bear collector. Lois spent time in the garden and travelling with family and friends. She will always be remembered for her enormous generosity and her kind and gentle nature. The family would like to express their huge appreciation to the staff at Marshall Gowland Manor for their compassion and loving care for Lois during her stay there.

A Funeral service will be held at the D. J. Robb Funeral Home & Cremation Centre (102 N. Victoria St., Sarnia) on February 17, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Dr. William Steadman officiating. Visitation will take place on Thursday 16, 2017 between the hours of 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.

Soden, Paul Gilmour of Corunna

On Saturday February 11 2017 Paul Soden passed away suddenly at Victoria hospital in London at the age of 68.

He leaves behind his two sons, Eric (Venus) Soden of Toronto and Jonathan (Eric) Mugridge
of California.

Survived by his  loving partner Carol Windover and her sons Craig (Lindsay), Chris and Scott (Amy) and granddaughter Cassie.

Predeceased by parents Edward and Edith Soden,  brother Terrance Soden and Step father  Ray Stebbins. Survived by brothers Bud (Liz) and Larry ( Jan) and their families. Grandfather to Alex and Aiden. Beloved by his extended family, uncle to Marnie, Phillip, Dan, Alyssa, Kasha, Bailey and Courtney.

Paul held a Music degree and was a talented musician that traveled North America in his youth. As well Paul played Cello for the International Symphony Orchestra of Sarnia and Port Huron. Paul retired from a career as a dental technician.

Visitation will be held at the D. J. ROBB FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE on Wednesday February 15th from the hours of 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 7:00 to 9:00 pm with services at 8:00 pm. Private family interment on Saturday February 18th at 10:00 am at Resurrection Cemetery.

Suddenly at Guelph General Hospital on Thursday, February 9, 2017.  SHERMAN MANESS, passed away at the age of 67; formerly of Sarnia. Beloved life partner of Sharon Wayling of 23 years and his cat Tovah. Dear son of the late Arthur and Elvira (nee Jackson) Maness. Sherman is survived by his sisters; Sandra (Marc) Mok and Sharren (Ray) Fisher. Sherman will be deeply missed by his many cherished friends and family in Guelph. Sherman enjoyed playing darts and played at Wolly and Fat Duck Pub. He was also a member of the Guelph Royal City Slo Pitch League for more than two decades. He was involved with the Friendship Centre movement for many years, working with the Ontario Federation of  Indigenous Friendship Centres. The family wishes to thank the caring staff of 4th. floor at the Guelph General Hospital. Funeral service will be held from the Maawn Doosh Gumig Community and Youth Centre (1972 Virgil Avenue, Sarnia, ON) on Tuesday, February 14, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. Cremation to follow. Interment of ashes will take place at the Aamjiwnaang (Chippewas of Sarnia First Nation) Cemetery. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a loving Father and Papa at the age of 78 following a brief illness at Bluewater Health Hospital Sarnia on February 8th, 2017.  Predeceased by his loving wife Monique Stringer (Deslauriers) (2003).  Father to Richard (Donald), David (Sandra), Sandra (Tom), and Tim (Echo).  Cherished Papa and fishing buddy to Matthew, John, Joshua, Jacob, Kelsey (Kevin), and Connor.  Dear brother of John (Sheila), Gordon (Susan), and Brenda.  Predeceased by his parents John and Jemima (nee Jessup), brother Joseph (Evelyn) and his sister Wilma (Larry). He will be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, and friends.  Norm retired after many years of working in the Mining Industry.  He enjoyed spending time with his friends and family fishing and hunting.  This very kind and generous man will be greatly missed.

Memorial and interment will be held in Lake St. Peter in the spring.  In lieu of flowers please make donations to the M. S. Society.

SALTER, MYRTLE – Sadly, on Sunday February 5, 2017 Madeline “Myrtle” (Scott) Salter passed away at her condo in Sarnia in her 104th year. Dear Mother of Richard Lucas (Ilderton) and his wife Christina Hogan, sister to Barbara Brennan (Sarnia). Dear Grandmother of Janet (Mike), Steven (Justyna), Michelle, Shawn, Marcie & Todd. She was a great-grandmother to several grandchildren and will be sadly missed by her nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her 1st husband James Wesley Lucas (1974) and her 2nd husband Wilfred  Douglas Salter (2008), her son Robert Wesley Lucas (2014), sisters Beryl Sutherland (1981), Lucy Wicks (2013) and brothers Stanley Scott (1998) Richard Scott (1927). Myrtle was born July 4, 1913 in Melita Manitoba. She gathered many friends over the years. She was well read and travelled to many different places. She was witty, smart and loved her bridge nights and talked often about her volunteer time with the Red Cross. As of late she enjoyed doing the daily Observer crossword puzzle, her Tim Hortons coffee time with her sister Barbara, her weekly visits with her son Richard and Sunday drives with grandnieces Carol and Lisa. Funeral Services will be held at the D. J. Robb Funeral Home & Cremation Centre (102 N. Victoria St., Sarnia) on Saturday, February 10th at 11:00 am. MOODY: CHARLOTTE “JEAN” OF SARNIA

Moody, Charlotte Jean– Passed away peacefully on Monday, January 30, 2017, at St. Joseph’s  Hospice  House at the age of 92. Charlotte “Jean” is survived by nieces Blanche ( Raymer ) Weir,  Kathy ( Mike ) Mervich and Lori ( Don ) Hoffman and  many great nieces and nephews.  She was the beloved wife of the late Leslie Alexander Moody and dear friend of the late Edward Kearney.  She was predeceased by her parents George and Ethel Wise and her sisters Edith Wise, Hazel Spring, Martha Lamb and Stella Bealer.  Also predeceased by nieces Donna Havens and Beverly Wolfe. “Jean” was a longtime, faithful member of Central United Church. She loved to go camping, do crossword puzzles and crochet. In the fall, she completed 37 milk bag mats in a 12 month period for the Third World, earning the honorary title as Central’s Master Mat Maker.  She was housebound the last few years and appreciated the loving support of Helen Karr, Hazel Shymko, Lee Molitor, Nancy Andrews, VON caregiver Vicki Stothers and the Kearney family.  A remembrance and celebration of her life will be held at D. J. Robb Funeral Home Tuesday February 7. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 1 – 2pm prior to the 2pm service officiated by Reverend Lilian Patey.  Private burial will be at Lakeview Cemetery. EVANS, JUDY, ANNE- passed away at Bluewater Health on January 27, 2017 at the age of 68 years.  Dear mother to Bill (Stephanie) Haight and Jeff (Kristin) Haight.  Loving grandma to Andrew, Kara, Ben and Tom Haight.  Sister Cathy Ritchie. Judy was a devoted Registered Nurse and had worked all over the globe for over 30 years doing what she loved.  In Judy’s retirement she was an avid painter and loved spending time in her garden. The family would like to give a special thanks to the Bluewater Health I.C.U nurse Elizabeth and everyone who helped Judy during her stay at the Hospital.  Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at the D. J. Robb Funeral Home & Cremation Centre (102 N. Victoria St., Sarnia) on Friday February 3, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation beginning an hour prior to service time at 10:00 a.m.

MOORE: RALPH, CARL OF SARNIA

RALPH CARL MOORE- passed away at Bluewater Health on January 24, 2017. A teenage farm boy from Moore’s lane grew to become a skilled tradesman and a proud member of Local 663. He served a term as president of both the Chamber of Commerce and the Sarnia Construction Association during his working years. He built the RABAR. Ralph was predeceased by his parents W.H. “Harry” and Reta (Haslip) Moore, his sister Trudy (Moore) Polak, and his elder son Ralph W. Moore. He was greatly loved by his wife Barbara ( Robinson) Moore and all his family: Brent Moore, son of Ralph’s elder son and Brent’s children Haley, Majofsky, Tala Moore and Brayden Moore; his son Dan,  wife Cheryl and sons Kevin and Mark; his daughter Bette (Moore) Woodley and her daughter Sarah Kell, who with her partner Jason Kell has just presented us with our latest addition, three month old Hunter; his daughter Lori (Moore) Zonneville and her daughters Erika (Melanie) and Rebecca and Becca’s two children Wayne and Aubrey. The Moore family stands tall together so we are sure Ralph will be long remembered and often spoken of by his brothers Gerald (Grace) and Charles “Chuck” (Suzanne, Deceased) and by his sisters Beverly Richards (Jim) and Linda Ryan (Doug). There will be a Celebration of Ralph’s life from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. on February 4, 2017 at the D. J. Robb Funeral Home and Cremation Center, (102 Victoria St. N. Peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 in her 91st year Dorothy Winifred Myers passed away and will join her husband, the late Rev. Lorne A. Myers in Heaven. Beloved mother of Deryn Harkness and her husband Graham; and her late son David Kimberley. Beloved grandmother of Ed Kimberley and his partner Mandy Rice; and Tina Kimberley and her partner Nathan Raaymakers. Beloved great grandmother to Ethan and Owen Raaymakers. Beloved sister of Margaret Winward and the late Guy Winward; and John Perry and the late Mae Perry. Also will be missed by many nieces and nephews.

A private graveside service will be officiated by Reverend Steve Harnadek at a later time.

HUGHES, WENDAWenda (Wendy) Lee Walker Hughes passed away peacefully after a lengthy cancer battle under the compassionate care of Dr. Maddison and St. Joseph’s Hospice in Sarnia, Ontario. Wendy is survived by children Tom; Vancouver, Ryan (Michele Fliss); Sarnia, and Natasha (John Germain); Toronto. Wendy was born August 15, 1940 in Sydney, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia to the late Joseph and Mary (MacLean) Walker. Wendy leaves behind siblings John (Carmaine); Halifax, Catherine Roberts (Richard); Pittsfield, Mass., Maureen MacDonald (Ross deceased 2006); Sydney, Marion Beaton (John) Mabou, Everett (Mona); Sydney, Charles (Wendy); Calgary, Gordon (Marsha); Calgary, Joanne Chase (Steve); Halifax and sister in law Angela (Alec) MacDonald; Sarnia, and is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Wendy is predeceased by her husband of 38 years, Thomas Hughes (2007). In the spring of 2010, Wendy was diagnosed with an aggressive type of breast cancer. Her determination led her to surpass all odds and overcome many setbacks over the course of her battle. Much of that will and strength came from her affection for her grandchildren, Sydney, Cameron, Morgan, Leo, Harper, Thomas, and Preston. Wendy would not have been capable of enduring many parts of her journey if it had not been for her Angel Warriors holding her up every step of the way. She was given the gifts of dignity and respect during her illness by her coach, leader, confidante, and powerhouse, Amy Hughes, as well as the unwavering support from her lifelong friends, Fran, Marg, Elaine, Donna, and Edith. Sarnia’s CCAC and the VON teams cared for Wendy regularly and their visits often made her day. The entire Bluewater Health staff in Oncology, Emergency, ICU, and Palliative all gave Wendy exemplary care, particularly Dr. Dosteler, Dr. Yoshida, and her G.P. Dr. Borek. SMITH BETTY JUNE – It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of BETTY JUNE LESLIE (CANTON) SMITH at Bluewater Health in Sarnia on Thursday, December 22, 2016 at the age of 87, wife of the late James Franklin Smith (1985). Dear mother of Bill Smith of Sarnia, Sharon (the late Morley) Maw of Sarnia and Honorary son Alan Kozentis. Much loved grandmother to Jodi (Mike) Hart and Darryl (Amy) Maw. She was Ninni to Jameson and Mitchell Hart and Broklyn Maw. She will be missed by her Friend Darci Demeester and by her loyal companion Sadie, who never left her side. 

She was predeceased by her mother Nellie Canton and brother Robert Leslie. Betty was a longtime Manager at the Odeon Theatre in Sarnia and will be remembered for her gentle nature, sense of humor and contagious laugh.

In keeping with Betty’s wishes, Cremation has taken place and a private Family service was held.

 Memorial donations in memory of Betty may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society or Bluewater Health Foundation.

LINDA PEVEC; 1953 – 2016 – Peacefully surrounded by her family at Bluewater Health Palliative Care Unit on Saturday, December 31, 2016, Linda passed away peacefully at the age of 63. She was the beloved wife of Michael for 43 years and proud mother of Michael (Crystal) and Peter (Antonella). She was the grandmother of Robert, Luka, Ashton and Seth. She was predeceased by her parents Victor and Margery Schmitt of Kitchener. Linda worked for 30 years as a PSW and loved gardening, her cats, driving her Mustang and Jazz music. Special thanks to all involved with Linda’s care. Cremation has taken place. There will be no services as requested by Linda. Donations can be made to ALS or the Sarnia Humane Society. WALLER, Betty of Sarnia

WALLER, BETTY VIOLA (STEERS) – December 22, 1921-December 28, 2016, born in Toronto, ON and passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at Bluewater Health at the age of 95. She was predeceased by her husband Christopher (Duke) Waller (December 31, 1997).  In their 56 years of marriage, they had a beautiful life together. She was the loving and caring mother of Marlene Ross (Dave) and proud grandmother of Heather Anderson (Mike), Leanne Farough (Tate) and Wendy Restivo (Peter) and GG of Cole and Brock Anderson, Reagan and Reese Farough, and Noah and Avery Restivo.  Loved mother-in-law to Dave Ross.  Betty was a faithful member of St. Paul’s United Church.  Survived by nieces Debbie Schulte (Clark) and Donna Steers of Arizona, brothers and sisters-in-law Vi Henderson, Doris Tremain, John and Joan Waller, Doug Waller as well as many nieces and nephews in Sarnia.   She was predeceased by her parents Aleitha (Ough) and Frederick Steers, brother and sister-in-law Fred (Ted) and Fran Steers and nephew Todd Steers of Arizona, brothers and sisters-in-law Jean and Roy Reynolds, Helen and Ron Hamel, Bob Henderson, Irvin Tremain, and Donna Waller all of Sarnia. A sincere and heartfelt “thank you” to the nurses and doctors on the 4th and 5th floors of Bluewater Health.  Many thanks to nurses, PSW’s and staff at Twin Lakes Retirement Home where Betty enjoyed 3 years there. Honouring Betty’s wishes, a private service will be held at the D.J. Robb Funeral Home & Cremation Centre (102 N. ISOM, ARLENE – Peacefully at Afton Park Place Nursing Home on Wednesday, December 28, 2016, Arlene Mary Isom (nee Fairservice), age 92 of Sarnia passed away. She is survived by her son John Philbin and his wife Wanda of Point Edward and Cheryl Fraser of London. She is also survived by special friends Susan Brown of Sarnia, John Isom of Sacremento, CA, and Kay Hurak (Ron) of Sarnia. She was predeceased by husbands Jack Isom (2014), Grant Guthrie (1985) and Bert Philbin (1984). She was also predeceased by her parents John and Blanche Fairservice and great-grandson Jacob Cousins (2010). She was the cherished grandmother of Ian Fraser, London, Michael Fraser (Kathy), 150 Mile House, BC, Amy Cousins (Kevin), Pickering and Carrie Lanz (John) of Northwood, OH. and seven great-grandchildren, Garrett, Timothy and Emma Fraser, Madison and Aidan Fraser, Sara and Daniel Cousins. Arlene was one of the first employees at both St. Clair Processing (Polymer) 1945 and Simpson-Sears (1954). She retired from the Sarnia Credit Bureau in 1980. Arlene was very dedicated volunteer with the VON and the Kidney Foundation. She enjoyed a very active membership in the Rebekah Lodge and Red Hats. Arlene was a longtime member of St. Luke’s United Church in Sarnia. Funeral services will be held at the D. J. Robb Funeral Home & Cremation Centre (102 N. Victoria St., Sarnia) on Friday, December 30th, 2016 at 2:00 pm. with Rev. Melanie Kirk officiating. Cremation will follow and interment will be held at a later date at Lakeview Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home on Friday beginning at 1:00 pm.
