HARDY, Kirk of Sarnia

HARDY, KIRK – It is with great sadness that the family announces the sudden death of Kirk Robert Hardy at the age 42, on Monday, July 16, 2018. He is survived by Ron O’Quinn, his loving parents Ken Hardy and Colette Johnston (Gary), his sisters Stacey Kokko (Gerry), Kelly Labonte (Yves) and Step- sister Jody Campbell (Greg). He was an awesome uncle to Blake and Brady Kokko, Abigail and Audrey Labonte and also survived by his Step-Grandma Mary Johnston as well as his fur babies and best friend Elaine VanSchyndel. Several aunts, uncles and cousins also survive. He was predeceased by his partner Darren Bigney and grandparents Ken and Doris Hardy, Al and Kay Brann, Keith Johnston and his aunt Sherry Thompson. Kirk regularly worked as an advocate for people with autism. His love of that role, combined with his interest in law led him to pursue a new career as a paralegal and was the owner of Bluewater Paralegal. He advocated for the underdog. He was a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada and the Point Edward Ex-Servicemen’s Club. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held from the D. J. Robb Funeral Home & Cremation Centre (102 N. Victoria St., N7T 5W9, Sarnia) on Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at 11:00 am. Interment of Kirk’s ashes will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Tuesday, July 24th between the hours of 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Point Edward Ex-Serviceman’s Club or the Sarnia Humane Society would be appreciated by the family. CHIVERS, HAZEL – Hazel Elizabeth Chivers, (Liz), passed away peacefully on Monday July 2, 2018 just short of her 90th birthday. She was born August 13, 1928 to Frederick & Pearl (Essey) Cuthbertson in Petrolia Ontario. She is survived by son Chuck Chivers, his wife Sonja Gould their children, DJ Gould, Jaime and Collin Morton, Jason and Jenna Gould and Michaela Chivers, her son Ed Chivers and brother Bruce Cuthbertson, as well many nieces and nephews in both the Chivers & Cuthbertson families. She was predeceased by husband Robert Chivers, her parents, and siblings Marion McCrea, Donald Cuthbertson, Jack Cuthbertson, and Kathleen Hooftman. Liz was a lifelong learner earning her Bachelors of Arts in History in 2001 at the age of 72 from University of Western Ontario. She was an avid golfer with her golf partner Marion McCrea at her side and bridge player. We want to thank the staff of Bluewater Health Palliative Care Team for the wonderful care she received. Clark: Susan Elaine of Sarnia

Peacefully, surrounded by loving family, on Monday, July 9th. 2018, at Bluewater Health – C.E.E. Petrolia, Susan Elaine (Davis) Clark, passed away at the age of 74. Predeceased by her loving husband Ronald Hugh Clark (1992). Loving mother of Cameron Clark ,Christopher Clark and his wife Janice, Lisa Wyrzykowski and her husband Owen, Tracey Michieli and her husband Peter, all of Sarnia. Cherished grandmother of Lucas and Amy, Joseph, Ryan, Curtis, Amanda, Aidan and Mya, and great grandmother to Adrina, Marcus and Julius. Survived by brother Daniel Davis. Predeceased by her parents John (Jack) and Margaret Davis. Susan will be greatly missed by her many family members and friends in St. Thomas, Tillsonburg and Sarnia. VANDERHOEVEN, Louise – February 24, 1936-July 4, 2018: Peacefully at St. Joseph’s Hospice, Sarnia, on July 4, 2018, at age 82. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Morris (2011). She will be missed profoundly by her children, Ann (Mark) Johnson, and their children, Jared (Danielle) Johnson, Erica (Brian) Vergunst and Shaina (Kevin) Normand; Yvonne (Ric) Willing, and their children, Mike (Chloe) Wade, Nick (Erin) Wade and Lauren Willing; and David (Nancy) Vanderhoeven, and their children Quinn and Maya. She is also missed by her great-grandchildren, Rhett and Vera Johnson, Bep and Lowie Vergunst, Baby Normand and Margaret Wade. She is also survived by her only sister, Gerda Bolhuis and several nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place and at Louise’s request there will be no visitation and no funeral.  A private family celebration of her life will take place later in the year. KAIJA, DORA – The family sadly announces the passing on Sunday, July 1, 2018, of Dora Frances (Dawson) Kaija, age 88 of Sarnia. She was the dear wife of the late Bruno Kaija (2013) and dear mother and grandmother of Jane Kaija (John) and their children Leesa (Rik) and Joshua (Keatha), Bruce Kaija (Jill) and their children Jenni (Kyle), Janet (Ethan), Brian and Paul, Leesa Anderson (Keith) and their children Celia (Jeff) and their daughter Sydney and son Andrew and Rachel (James). She is the sister of Annie Stoner and Irma Bannister. Several nieces and nephews also survive. She was predeceased by her parents Clarence and Dora Dawson, and her brother Harry Dawson. Dora worked in Radiology for many years at St. Joseph’s Hospital of Sarnia and Mercy Hospital in Port Huron. She loved her Bassett Hounds and her walks with friends. PURVES, F. ROBERT – At Bluewater health on Wednesday, May 30th, 2018, Frederick “Bob” Purves, age 76 of Sarnia quietly passed away. For 53 years he was the dear husband of Carolyn (Brodie) and loving father to sons Stephen and Jim. Bob will be lovingly remembered by his sister in laws Vanessa Green and Suzanne Purves (Flick). He was the cherished grandfather to Erin Purves, Ryan Purves, Carter Purves, Lauren Purves and Avery Purves. He is survived by his sister Blanche Quinn and predeceased by brother-in law Edwin Quinn. He will be remembered by nephews Robert and Raymond Quinn and Niece Dianne Baily (Quinn). Bob began his career at St. Clair High School teaching History and Math. He went on to become the Vice Principal/Principal at Alexander Mackenzie, Petrolia and Forest High Schools. He retired from teaching in 1998 and spent winters in his retirement years in Florida. He and was a longtime active member of the Sarnia Golf & Curling Club in the summer and Big Cypress Golf Club in Lakeland in the winter. Bob and Carolyn loved to golf and get together with friends in both their Sarnia home and Lakeland cottage. Bob was always a big sports fan, and was involved in his kids sport for many years. He graduated from Michigan State in 1964 and always followed the Spartan teams. He regularly watched and supported high school teams where he was teaching and the local sports teams in both Sarnia and Florida. In his retirement years he enjoyed following his grandchildren’s sports. Memorial services will be held at the D. J. Robb Funeral Home & Cremation Centre (102 N. MUSSIO, GIULIANO – At Afton Park Place in Sarnia on Tuesday, May 29, 2018, Giuliano Mussio, age 69 of Sarnia passed away. He was the husband of Angelina (Sartor) Mussio and dear father of Mark, Eric (Angela) and Karen (James) and grandfather of Madeline, Timothy, Sophia and Joshua. He is the brother Gabriella Mariuz. He was an owner/operator of Minato & Mussio Terrazzo & Tile. Born on October 30th, 1948 in Orenico Superiore, Italy and came to Canada at the age of 19 and became a citizen in 1976. WILLIAM DAWSON BOYD: of London Ontario

William Dawson Boyd – born in Sarnia, Ontario, July 9th, 1926, died at University Hospital in London, Ontario on May 24, 2018 surrounded by his family. Bill started work in 1946 for the Sarnia Observer, then to Sarnia Bridge Company for 12 years starting in 1948. He retired from Sandercock Construction in 2008. He became interested in the game of softball in 1947 and in 1950, became the first Chairman of the Sarnia Minor Athletic Association. From 1954 to 1980, he was the secretary of the Sarnia Softball Association. He became the announcer for the Gliss and later the Ranson teams throughout the 80s. In 1978, he was selected as “Sportsman of the Year” by the Sarnia Sertoma Club and in 1984 he was inducted into the Sarnia-Lambton Sports Hall of Fame in the Special Achievement Category. In the 1990s, he assisted the SMAA in having PA work for their playoffs. Bill was interested as well in girls’ softball and served as Secretary-Treasurer of Big Four Ladies Fastball League which at one time had teams from Sarnia, Goderich, Florence, Stratford, Windsor, Hamilton and Galt. Bill was known as Mr. Softball. Bill is survived by his sister Doreen Francis of London and nieces Susan Price, Wendy Francis and nephew Brian Francis (Sergio), great-nieces Katelyn Dugal (Kevin), Jaclyn Price and Ella Francis and great-nephew Ryan Price. Funeral services will be held at the D. J. Robb Funeral Home & Cremation Centre (102 N. Victoria St., N7T 5W9, Sarnia) on Wednesday, May 30th, 2018 at 2:00 pm. Harding: Stanley Ralph of Petrolia and formerly of Sarnia

Promoted to Glory on Sunday, May 20, 2018, STANLEY RALPH HARDING, at Fiddick’s Nursing Home, Petrolia, Ontario at the age of 94. Stan was born on April 5, 1924 in Hereford England to the late Charles and Violet Harding. Stanley was a retired locomotive engineer for the Canadian National Railroad. He was a Sarnia resident for most of his life and was a member of the Salvation Army where he was a retired Corp Sergeant Major. Will be greatly missed by his sibling’s ; sister’s Irene Page and her husband the late Robert, the late Joan Charbonneau and her husband Robert, Joyce Zygaj and her husband Tom, brother’s James Rowe and his wife the late Roselle and John Rowe. Pieters-Lensen, Aleida of Sarnia

 

 

PIETERS-LENSEN, ALEIDA – Very peacefully at Bluewater Health, Aleida passed away on May 11, 2018 in her 90th year.  Aleida is now reunited with her loving husband Henricus (1993).  Dear mother to Henry (Carol), John (Cynthia), Johanna (Eric) and Ron (Karen). She will be missed by her 15 grandchildren, their spouses and her 15 great grandchildren.  Aleida is survived by her brother Yuur, sister Thea and many nieces and nephews in the Netherlands. Aleida and her family immigrated to Canada in 1953.  Although she was proud of her Canadian citizenship, she never forgot her Dutch heritage, and would regularly travel back to Holland to visit family and friends.  Leida was an accomplished seamstress, cook and loved to knit.  She took great pleasure in sharing her creations with family and friends.  She had an amazing sense of style and was an avid shopper.  She will be remembered for her adventurous heart, her youthful and ‘spunky’ spirit which allowed her to live independently until the final few months of her life.

 

The family would like to express sincere gratitude to Dr Kim and the nurses and support workers on the Palliative Care Team for their attentive and compassionate care prior to and during Leida’s hospital stay. Thank you to Pastor Dave and her Church Community who welcomed her with open arms and continued to visit her regularly.    

 

Celebration of life will be held at First Christian Reformed Church (1105 Exmouth St. Sarnia N7S 1W5) on Saturday May 26, 2018 at 11:00 am. Thompson: Beverly Charlene of Sarnia

It is with great sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of Beverly Charlene Thompson at Bluewater Health on Wednesday, May 9, 2018. Beverly is now reunited with her most precious grandson Nathan Thompson who passed away in 2007. She is survived by her husband Mike Thompson of over 47 happy years, Beverly will be sorely missed by her 2 sons David Thompson his wife Stacey and Kevin Thompson his wife Jen and by her adoring grandchildren Natasha, Nicolette, Hunter, Adam, Cashius, Nevaeh and Nya . She is also survived by siblings Lloyd Shortt (Laurel), Vicki Drydak (David), Karen Scott (Matt), Peggy Lamont (Doug),Tammy Shortt, Phyllis Welch (Don) and was predeceased by her parents Barbara and Lloyd Shortt Sr. and sister Grace Ann and nephew Less Shortt. Beverly will be missed by a host of nieces and nephew, extended family and her many friend’s as well as her dog Chloe. Beverly was a custodian at St. Clair High school. She enjoyed her job but truly loved the friendships developed with her co – workers and teachers. Services will be held at the D.J. Robb Funeral Home & Cremation Centre (102 N. Victoria St, Sarnia) on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at 1:00 p.m., friends may visit at the funeral home one hour prior to service time. Interment of ashes will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. LACHOVICH, ARTHUR – The family is deeply saddened by the sudden passing of Arthur on May 6, 2018, at age 75. Loving husband of 45 years to Jessie (Rowe) Lachovich. He will also be sorely missed by his children Cindy Lowes (Raymond Pace) and Shelley Habinski (Timothy). Grandfather to Ella, Nina and Lily. Brother of Mary Amadio (Gerry), Elsie Conley (late Bruce) and Dennis (Marlene). Predeceased by his parents Adam and Norma. He was a special uncle to many nieces and nephews. Art was a kind and generous person who lived by the words “No one is a failure who lightens the burden of another”.Visitation will be held at the D. J. Robb Funeral Home & Cremation Center (102 N. Victoria St., Sarnia N7T 5W9) on Saturday May 12, 2018 from 1pm till 3pm. Funeral service will be held at the Funeral Home on Saturday May 12, 2018 at 3pm. Sacerty (Clemence), Isabel Ruth – On Wednesday April 25, 2018, Isabel passed away at Bluewater Health. She is survived by her loving husband Robert of 60 years. Dear sister to Jean Holmes in Cobourg Ontario. She is predeceased by siblings Charles Clemence, Allen Clemence, Arthur Clemence, Mary Graham and Mabel Goode. Isabel and Robert moved to Sarnia in 1977 after 18 years in Thunder Bay. Cremation has taken place and a private family interment was held at Lakeview Cemetery.

Peacefully at Bluewater Health on Tuesday April 17, 2018  CARL HALL age 77 of Sarnia.  Beloved husband of Anita (Burwell) Hall.  Loving father of Shelley (Raymond) Hathaway, Bonnie (Carl Tolsma) Hall,   Cherished grandfather of Trevor, Robert, Michael, John, Tammy, Sara and great-grandfather of Wyatt, Hunter and Ivy.  Dear brother of Joyce (Lyle) Dayman and James (Muriel) Hall and brother in law of Jan Ryan and Myrna Burwell.   Also survived by several nieces and nephews.  Carl was a proud member of Liberty Lodge 419 and a member of  Lambton Shrine Club Motor Corps amongst many other lodges.  Resting at the D. J. Dupee: Robert John of Sarnia

At age 72, ROBERT JOHN DUPEE passed away at his residence in Sarnia. He is survived by his son David John Dupee (Lynda), daughter Alice Ann Dupee (Max), grandchildren Nolan, Tanner, Marina, Ryleigh and great grandchild Callie. Robert was the proud owner of Dupee Roofing. The company was first established in 1917 by his grandfather. He was passionate about his company, his clients and fellow associates. Those who new Robert would surely have a story to tell from his early days of drag racing to his barstool days and playing pool. He was loved and will be missed. Rest easy “Mr. Mopar”; see you again “above and beyond”. Cremation has taken place. Private family ceremony for interment will take place at a later date. Lea, Ronald Arthur Goldwyn of Sarnia

 

Peacefully at Twin Lakes Terrace with his family by his side RONALD ARTHUR GOLDWYN LEA passed away on Saturday April 7, 2018 at the age of 81.  Beloved husband of Margaret (Peggy)(Crisp) Lea.  Loving father of Rose (Guy) Rondeau, Donna (Stuart) Ellis and Julie (Ron) Gordon.  Cherished grandfather of Meghan (Jim), Adam (Sarah), Courtney (Michael), Kelsey (Philippe), Kayla (Adam), Dylan (Erin), Rye Lea, Jenna and great-granddaughters Leah and Lily.  Dear brother of Ted (Marilyn) Lea and Betty Lea and sister in law Marion.  Predeceased by his parents Herbert and Alice and a brother Herbert.  Ron retired from I.O.L. after many years of service and enjoyed bowling, woodcarving and spending time with family.   Resting at the D. J. Unexpectedly at her residence in Corunna on April 5, 2018 ELAINE MARIE FLYNN age 64.  Born in Saint John N.B. December 28, 1953.   Longtime partner of the late James Callfas.  Survived by sisters Gayle Patstone, Valerie Flynn and Alison Flynn, brothers Russell, John, James and Charles.  Several nieces and nephews.  Also survived by James’ children Julie Pogontcheff, Pam Handy, Kristine Martelle and Robyn Callfas.  Predeceased by her parents Hazel and Frederick.  Elaine had retired as a  longtime employee of Bond Petroleum.  She enjoyed reading and doing Sudoku.  Resting at the D. J. ROBB FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION CENTRE where services will be held on Wednesday April 11th at 2:30 p.m. with interment to follow at Froomfield Cemetery.  Visitation will be held on Tuesday afternoon and evening from the hours of 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.  Sympathy may be expressed through donations to the Sarnia and District Humane Society or the charity of your choice. GILBERT:WILLIAM GEORGE STAVELY OF SARNIA

GILBERT, Bill (William) George Stavely – at the age of 76, Bill Gilbert passed away peacefully at Bluewater Health Petrolia on April 4, 2018, Survived by loving wife June Gilbert ( nee Thompson) and Daughter Deborah Gilbert. Bill is also survived by many nieces and nephews and extended family in the Dominican Republic. Predeceased by his two sisters Harriet (Bailey) Ford, Ruthann Harmsworth and his brother Charles Gilbert; both his parents Richard and Ruth Gilbert. Bill had worked with the Lambton Kent school board for many years and loved volunteering with many organizations in Sarnia. He loved to sing God’s praises. His motto was in life “Heart to God hand to mankind.” Family and friends will be received at the funeral home on Sunday April 8, 2018 between the hours of 2:00pm – 4:00pm and 7:00pm – 9:00pm. Funeral Services will be held from the D.J. Robb Funeral Home & Cremation Centre (102 Victoria St. N. Sarnia) on Monday April 9, 2018 at 2:30pm to there will be an interment at Lakeview Cemetery. Following the interment there will be a lunch at Brights Grove Lakeshore Community Church. Memorial donations in memory of Bill may be made to the Ontario Heart and Stroke Foundation and Sarnia District Humane Society Wanda’s Wish.
