Passed away peacefully at Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital on  Friday, December 14, 2018, at the age of 68 years.

Beloved father of Lauren (Cenk) of Toronto, brother of Tim (Louise) of Walkerton and uncle of Michelle, Nicole and Breanna.

Predeceased by his parents Norval & Dolly Jean.

Bill spent most of his life in Forest, Ontario and was an active member of the community. Over the years he played baseball, coached minor hockey and served on the Parks and Recreation committee. Former Co-Director of North American International Silver Stick held in Forest and a member of the committee for many years. Former Treasurer of the Forest Legion, he could be found volunteering at many events and proudly parading. Bill was a University of Western Ontario alumni and successful local business owner.

Bill loved sports, cars and cats. He will be missed by many friends and associates, especially Ted DeSchutter, who was with him until the end.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Forest Legion Br#176 on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at 1:00 pm.

Loving father of Gaye and Case Nauta, Alice and Tony Dupuis, John and Manon Tamming, Joanne and Tony Jenkins, and Linda Rice and Stephen Lehman. THOMPSON: Norman Robert of Strathroy

Dr. Norman Robert Thompson

Norman Thompson, resident of Chartwell Riverside Retirement Residence, passed away peacefully on Dec. 2, 2018 at the age of 103 years at University Hospital in London, Ontario. Sincere thanks to the palliative care team at UH (especially Wendy and Janet), who ensured a comfortable experience for both Norman and his family.

Norman was born to Robert and Mabel Thompson in Strathroy, Ontario in 1915. He completed his undergraduate degree from the Ontario Agricultural College in 1939. Norman served in the RCAF reserves during WWII until 1946. He married his high school sweetheart, Jessie McDonald, at the Presbyterian Church in Strathroy on March 5, 1943. He completed his Master’s degree from UofT in 1949, and his PhD from Michigan State University in 1952. Norman had an accomplished academic career as a professor of agriculture at the Department of Crop and Soil Sciences at MSU. He specialized in agronomy and crop production of potatoes. Norman held several residencies at the International Potato Centre in Lima, Peru, and traveled to many nations around the world to improve sustainable agricultural practices.

Norman is survived by his beloved wife of 75 years, Jessie Thompson (nee McDonald); sister-in-law, Marion Savage; children, Paul Buckingham (Leighanne) and Jane Matthies; grandchildren, Lindsay Rivard (Jonathan) and Mark Buckingham; and great-grandchild, Maggie Rivard.

A private family service will take place at the Strathroy cemetery on Dec. 19, 2018. Donations in memory of Norman can be made to the World Wild Life Foundation, https://www.worldwildlife.org/.

While 103 years may seem like a long life for most, for the family of Norman Thompson it was much too short. His remarkable kindness, generosity, warmth, and intelligence made an extraordinary impact on all he knew. He will be dearly missed. May he rest in peace.

Passed away on Thursday December 6th surrounded by her family at St. Josephs Hospice. Sylvia was in her 82nd year. She was the beloved wife and soul mate to John Hodnett, married for a 61 blessed years. Sylvia was the loving mother to Steve Steven (Angela Santana) Hodnett, Jackie (Steve) Herdman and Sarah Rotchford (Cal Roberts). Cherished grandmother of Jeremy, Megan, Jordan (Shawny), Danielle (Jason), Paul (Chrystal), Andrew, Aaron, Kyle and Olivia. Great grandmother of 7  Sylvia will be greatly missed by her 2 sisters in England, Judy and Diane.

Sylvia had a long history of volunteerism. In early years she was a foster mother to several infant children which she loved like her own. She spent hours turning the dirt and pruning flowers with the Hillsburgh Horticultural Society. She prepared many hearty meals for Meals on Wheels and most recently was an active volunteer with the Four Counties Health Services auxiliary. Sylvia was an avid quilter, having quilted over 100 quilts for her family and friends and donating many to the Woman Rural Resource Centre. Sylvia along with her husband John were lifelong members of the Georgian Bay Yacht Club.

Peacefully, at Riverview Gardens, with her daughter and granddaughter by her side, Kay Peck-Walton, formerly of London and more recently of Grand Retirement Village passed away on Friday, November 23rd, 2018. Kay was predeceased by her husband Derek Peck in 1980 and John Walton in 2006. She will be missed by daughter Jill Pritchard of Chatham and her children Jodie (of Hamilton), Bryden (Becky, of Carleton Place) and Michael, at home; son Chris (Nadine) of Winnipeg and their children Larissa (Mike)) and Andrew; and daughter Judi, and her sons Lucas and Derek.

At Kay’s request, no funeral will be held. Cremation has already taken place. Interment will be held privately in the spring. Arrangements have been entrusted to Dennings of Chatham.

Peter emigrated from the Netherlands in 1953. He was the owner of Timmerman Insurance Brokers from 1968 until he retired in 1995. Peter had a passion for soccer as a player, coach and referee, he loved to play cards, tell jokes and sing in the church choir. He was an honest and good man. We will miss him.  Visitation will take place at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church, 1 Fallons Lane, London, starting at 9:30 am on Friday, November 30, 2018, with Funeral Mass to follow at 11:30 am.  Luncheon to follow immediately after Mass in the church hall. Cremation has taken place. The family requests no flowers. A memorial donation to Families for Children, The Alzheimer Society of London, or to a charity of one’s choice is greatly appreciated.

At Parkwood Hospital, London on Sunday, November 18th, 2018.  Bert Piers of Strathroy at the age of 94.

Predeceased by his wife Ruby Piers (2012).

Survived by his step son Bill Patten (Eleanor) of Strathroy, his grandsons Lance (Carrie) and their children Sydney and Makenna, William Jr. (Kirsten) and their children Noah and Brett, and his granddaughter Valerie Patten and her children Dustin, Ruby (Marcus) and Madilyn.

Survived by many nieces and nephews, many at home where Bert grew up in Nova Scotia.

Predeceased by his siblings Blanche, Dorothy, Janet, Beatrice, Frances, Arnold, George and Elizabeth, Wathan, and Rhodes.

Visitation will be held at DENNING’S OF STRATHROY on Friday, November 23rd, 2018 from 6 – 8 pm.  Royal Canadian Legion, Sir Arthur Currie Branch 116 will conduct a memorial service in honour of Bert at 6:30 pm.

Funeral service will take place on Saturday at 11 am.  Interment at Oxford Memorial Park cemetery.

If desired, memorial contributions to the Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital Foundation or the Strathroy legion would be appreciated as your expression of sympathy.

Peacefully, in his wife’s arms, at  home on Sunday, November 18th, 2018, Jacob Teichroeb passed away at the age of 64. Beloved husband of Eva (nee Peters) for over 40 years. Cherished father of Martha Martens, Nick (Mary) Teichroeb, Judy Allison, Tina Teichroeb, Becky (Abe Jr.) Klassen, James (Nancy) Teichroeb, Matthew Teichroeb, Benny Teichroeb, the late Danny Teichroeb, Jordan (Susie) Teichroeb, and  Arlena (Johnny) Knelsen.  Loving papa of Kristin, Nathan, Makayla, Noah, Jeffery, Brandan, Patrick, Alex, Natalie, Anthony, Madison, Savannah, Jeremiah, Connor, Jason, Emmaly, Dylan, Ryan, Levi, and Zephaniah. Jacob will be missed by many. Friends and family will be received at Denning’s of Wheatley (519-825-7741), formerly the Hammond Funeral Home, 17 Little Street South, Wheatley, on Tuesday, November 20th, 2018 from 2 to 4pm and 7 to 9pm. The Funeral Service will be held at Wheatley Old Colony Mennonite Church, 22046 Essex County Road 1, on Wednesday November 21st, 2018 at 2pm. Interment to follow in Fairview Cemetery, Wheatley. SHEA: Margaret “Dorothy”

At North Lambton Lodge, Forest on Friday, November 16th, 2018 in her 93rd year. Margaret Dorothy Shea of Watford. Beloved wife and best friend of the late Glen Shea (2013) for 66 years. They were married on July 8th, 1947 and lived in Watford all their married lives. Dorothy’s parents were Alex and Anne Campbell. Predeceased by her brother Kenneth (Rena) Campbell. Dorothy began teaching at the age of eighteen in a one room school and moved to Watford where she taught for over thirty years. She enjoyed golf with the Ladies League in Forest and also after retirement in Florida.

Dorothy is survived by 10 nieces and nephews; Eileen Reynolds, Roger (Helen) Campbell, Beth Haryett, Leta Millard, Kevin (Shawn) Campbell, Bill (Joan) Shea, Beth (Murray) Karr, Anne (Chuck) St. Louis, Sheila (Marty) Banninga and Dave (Paula) Shea. Dorothy was very appreciative of all the love and support from her nieces and nephews over the years.

The family would like to thank the staff at Brookside Retirement Living and North Lambton Lodge for their care and support over the years.

Friends will be received at DENNING’S OF WATFORD on Tuesday, November 20th, 2018 from 10 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Service at 11 a.m. Rev. Carey Wagner officiating. It is with heavy hearts the family of Maria Pereira announces her passing at the age of 83 at Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital. Beloved wife of the late Octavio Pereira (2014). Loving mother of Maria Da Luz (Jorge) Nunes, Manuel (Ana) Santos, Carlos (late Nizalda) Santos, Fernando (late Manuela) Santos, John (Ornella) Pereira, and Maria Pereira. Proud grandmother of 19 and great-grandmother of 10. Maria will be sadly missed and remembered by many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

 

Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 18th, 2018 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00p.m. at DENNING’S OF STRATHROY. A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 19th at 11a.m. at the funeral home.
