INGRATTA: Brenda A., of Vancouver, B.C., formerly of Aldborough Twp.

Posted by on March 16, 2017

February 15, 1957 – February 20, 2017

Brenda was born the twin daughter of now deceased parents Jim and Irene Ingratta, homestead farmers from Middle Street (Thomson Line) near Rodney, Ontario.  She joined her siblings John, Amy, Marie and twin sister Barbara, living on the farm until graduating with a Master’s Degree in English Language and Literature.

Brenda went west in pursuit of joining the working world, where she formed a network of lasting friendships. But Vancouver, British Columbia became her home after meeting an exceptional person, Diana Bouvier, who was the love of her life.  Brenda was an affectionate friend to Diana’s children, Jesse (Andrea) and Jen (Curtis) and an adoring grandmother to Owen, Sam and Luke, who never tired of singing songs with her.

Brenda faced life’s major challenges head on: cancer and multiple sclerosis.  She channelled her positive energy into remaining well as long as possible, until February 20th when, with her one true love Diana beside her, she passed gently and peacefully at St. James Cottage Hospice.

Brenda is survived by her Vancouver family and friends, who are holding a Gathering of Love on March 25th on the hospice grounds.

A Celebration of Life will commence at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 8th, 2017 at DENNING’S OF RODNEY, 212 Furnival Road, Rodney (519-785-0810).  Visitation will precede the Service from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m.  A reception will follow at the Royal Canadian Legion in Rodney.  A private Interment will take place in St. Mary’s Cemetery, West Lorne.

Brenda will be lovingly remembered by her brother John (Donna), and sisters Amy, Marie Degraw (Don) and Barbara.  She will be fondly recalled by her nieces and nephews: Jim O’Connor (Louise), Gerry O’Connor, Angela Wootton (Bruce), Mary Catherine Stevenson (Russ), and Susie Puyda, as well as their collective children.  Brenda was predeceased by a dear niece, Joanne, in 1983.

If desired, in lieu of flowers, a donation by cheque to the Cancer Research Society or to the Canadian Multiple Sclerosis Society would be appreciated and can be left at the Denning Funeral Home.

DINNING: Sandra of Strathroy, Ontario

Posted by on February 28, 2017

Sandra Marlene Dinning: November 3, 1943 to February 27, 2017

Born in Strathroy, Ontario to Gus and Adeline Dinning (née Huber), Sandra passed away peacefully due to pneumonia. She was 73.

She is survived by her partner Bill Lyons, and her six siblings: brothers Bob (Marge), Ron, and Jim (Pat), and her sisters Linda (Russ), Elma (Jim), and Verlyn.

Sandra was “Auntie Sandy” to ten nieces and nephews—Gregory, Christopher, Paul, Jessica, Erin, John, Sean, Bob Jr., Ron, and Rick—and also to their children: James, Liam, Olivia, Lexi, Hailey, Catherina, Sam, Chloe, Oliver, Abigail, and Benjamin.

She was the matriarch of a family who hosted Christmas dinners for her siblings and their kids for some 20 years. She never missed a birthday, or an opportunity to make a bawdy joke. Her laugh was contagious. Her spirit was magnanimous. They all loved her, not to mention her cabbage rolls, shrimp dip, and roast chicken dinners, and will miss her terribly.

Sandra loved to knit—the sweaters, socks, and blankets she crafted for her loved ones will be cherished—and to read. If she didn’t have her nose buried in a the latest Maeve Binchy novel, she was watching one of her favourite British television shows. For many years, she and Bill tended an enviable backyard garden whose bounty of cherry tomatoes, green beans, cucumbers, watermelon, and wild asparagus was always shared.

She worked at Northern Life, in London, Ontario for decades before finding meaningful employment at Joseph Kovacs Insurance Brokers in Strathroy, where she remained until her retirement. Sandra was also a member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Strathroy.

Please join us in celebrating Sandy’s life on Friday, March 3 at DENNING’S OF STRATHROY (32 Metcalfe St. W, Strathroy, Ont.) from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. An additional visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday with the funeral to follow.

Share a memory at www.denning.ca 519 245-1023

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favourite charity. May we also ask that you embrace a family member tonight and tell them why you love them. And, if you can, watch The Nutty Professor, Christmas Vacation, Planes, Trains & Automobiles, or an episode of Coronation Street.

Sandy would’ve liked that.
