SAVARD, MariaIn loving memory of Maria Savard (née Lafortune) who passed away peacefully at Maison Vale Hospice surrounded by her family, on September 13th, 2014, at the age of 93 years. Daughter of the late Alcide and Rose Lafortune (née Beaulieu). Beloved wife of more than 64 years to the late Armand Savard of Azilda. Cherished mother of Jacques (Claude) of Rockland, Rachelle of Sudbury, Françoise Dalcourt (Ronald) and Gerry (Annette) both of Azilda, Agnès Lemieux (Gilbert) of Val Caron, Aimé (Darlene) of Greely, Ronald (Danielle) and Donald both of Aylmer, Qc. Memère will be sadly missed by her 17 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Dear sister of Agnès Lafortune, Claire Chippure (late Lornie), Lucille Pitre (late Hormidas) and Albertine Lafrenière (late Romeo). Predeceased by her sisters, Florida Daoust, Alice Lafortune, Estelle Landry and her brothers Alphonse, Noel, Ernest and Henri. Also predeceased by her two angels, grandson André Dalcourt and great-grandson Anthony Lemieux. Lovingly remembered by her many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. The focus of our mother’s life was her home where she took great pride in caring for her family. She enjoyed cooking and knitting. Memories of our family gatherings are our keepsake with which we will never part. She was a member of the “Fédération des femmes canadiennes françaises” and she enjoyed playing cards at the “Club d’Age d’Or” of Azilda with our father. We would like to express our deepest gratitude to all the nurses and staff of St-Gabriel’s Villa, Chelmsford and Maison Vale Hospice, Sudbury for the kind and compassionate care given to our mother. The family will receive relatives and friends at the COOPERATIVE FUNERAL HOME, 4691 RR 15, Chelmsford, Tuesday, September 16, 2014 from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Ste Agnès Church, Azilda. Missed by his children Lynn Smith (Calvin), Hélène Duguay and Colette Duguay. Dear brother of Murielle Gagné, Yvonne Paquette, Rollande Mallette and Jeannine Racine. Predeceased by his siblings Lionel, Gérard, Conrad, Laurent, Laurette Humphrey, Armand and René. Cherished grandfather of Christopher Smith, Adam Smith, Patricia Smith, Trista Duguay, Jessie Duguay, Connor Ross, Brenden Duguay, Danica Whissell, Mathieu Whissell, Emma Card, Gary Card and great-grandfather of Cascada Duguay-Parson. Armand retired in 1987 after 24 years of service. He was a hoistman, driller and a cage tender for INCO. He was an avid bowler and card player, but music was always his #1. In his spare time, Armand did volunteer for over 12 years. In keeping with Armand’s wishes, there will be no visitation. Aunt and great-aunt to many nieces and nephews. Noëlla enjoyed being at home, reading, doing puzzles, crosswords and watching her game shows. Noëlla and Gil spent many happy years together; poker runs on the Harley and organizing and attending functions at the School House. They purchased a trailer and lot on Lake Nipissing where family gatherings were enjoyed. She adored her grandchildren, storytime was a favorite enjoyed by them all, and each had their own special things shared with Nanny. She was so proud of her great-grandson Jordan; working in the yard with her and Gil (Papa), walking or riding his bike to the park with Nanny and skipping stones in the river. Always thinking of her children before herself and always there for them. She was a quiet, kind and caring person. All that loved her, held a special place in her heart. Always remembered, never forgotten. Love you Mom/Nanny/Noel. Special thank you to Dr. Bakker, Marian Pharand and the staff at Bayshore. NEWSKY, AlexanderAlex passed away at the Elizabeth Centre, after fighting a brave battle with cancer, on September 1, 2014. Devoted husband to his wife of 30 years, Henriette (Lanoix) Newsky.   A truly lovely man who was accepting of everyone and generous of spirit, he is finally to be reunited with his parents and brother. He leaves behind his family to mourn him: Michelle and Tom Moore, Jody Jankola, Cindy and Rick Caya and granddaughter Skeena Shewman. Alex was a loyal Falconbridge employee – retiring after 30 years of service. A proud Canadian citizen, his beloved homeland of Ukraine always remained near and dear to his heart. A complex and sophisticated man, he was well read and knew how to appreciate life’s simple pleasures: his baseball hat collection, a glass of red wine, classical music and a day spent fishing. Awaiting him at heaven’s gate are his sister-in-law Denise Lanoix and his boys Karlin Shewman, Paul Bustos and Johnathan Hetu (rods and reels in hand). The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the devoted, compassionate and caring staff at the Elizabeth Centre. In their care, he left this world in comfort and with dignity. LECLERC, PaulineC’est avec tristesse que la famille annonce son décès à Sudbury le lundi 1 septembre 2014 à l’âge de 64 ans.  Épouse bien-aimée de Roger Leclerc de Hanmer.  Fille de feu Dieu-Donné et de feu Marie-Ange (née Pellerin) Blier.  Chère mère de Mélanie Lafreniere (Éric) et Valérie Dalcourt (Denis).  Elle laisse également dans le deuil plusieurs frères et sœurs ainsi que beaux-frères et belles-soeurs.  Ses petits-enfants Nicolas, Cloé, Francis et Audrey garderont de doux souvenirs de sa tendresse. Pauline a dévoué sa vie à sa famille. Elle aimait recevoir les gens chez elle et se préoccupait toujours du bien des gens. Elle est reconnue pour sa patience, sa douceur ainsi que sa bonté. A la demande de Pauline il y aura aucune visite.  Une messe funéraire sera célébrée le jeudi 11 septembre 2014 à 11h00 à la Paroisse St-Jacques, Hanmer. Loving mother of Lucille Burton (Leo), Gérald Carrière (Huguette), Normand Carrière (Annette), Estelle Laplante (William) and Yollande Twilley (Fred). Dear sister of Justine Gareau (late Léon), Délima Proulx (late Alcide), Gabriel Dupuis (Rita) and Polidore Dupuis (Dorothy). Predeceased by her siblings Daniel, Cordelia Renaud, Rita Leblanc, Claire Lawlord, Wilfred, Léonard and Lionel. Sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her 19 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren. She will also be missed by many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. CLOUTIER, Andre Peacefully passed away with his family by his side in Sudbury on Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at the age of 84 years. Predeceased by his parents Jean and Exérina (née Lacroix) Cloutier. Beloved husband of 58 years to Laurette (née Lamothe) Cloutier. Loving father of Carmen Lefebvre (Daniel), Monique Trudel (Richard) and Daniel Cloutier. Cherished grandfather of Janelle, Danica and Patrick (Julie). Predeceased by his grandsons Christian and Joseph. Dear brother of Rita Racette (late Aurèle). Predeceased by all his other siblings. Sadly missed by many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. BABIKER, SheilaThe family announces with deep sorrow her passing on Sunday, August 24th, 2014 at the age 74, peacefully at home surrounded by her family. Beloved wife of Oscar Fregonese. Loving mother of Liela (Vince Fortunato), Susan (Doug Doe), Nadia (Roy Steinebach) and Stephanie (Shawn Morrison). Dear daughter of Marion and George Bradford (predeceased) and James Begg (predeceased). Cherished younger sister of Patricia (Robert Gow) and Gordon Begg (Brenda). Her spirit lives on in her ten grandchildren Brianna, Jenna, Julia, Naomi, Tevis, Kevin, Chloe, Jacob, Evan and Carly. Also sadly missed by her nieces and nephews and loyal pup Fergus. Sheila was born in Clackmannan, Scotland on April 22nd, 1940 and immigrated to Canada in 1971 where she made Sudbury, ON her home for over 40 years. She was a strong, proud mother and instilled a deep value system into her four daughters whom she dedicated her life to raising. Sheila was known for her fine needle work, knitting for Michelle’s Wool Shop, charity organizations and friends. Many a grandbaby wore one of her beautiful jackets and bonnets. For the past 12 years, Sheila and Oscar travelled throughout Canada and the US in their RV. And more recently wintered in Naples, Florida where many great memories were created and deep friendships made. The family would like to thank Dr. Walton and the palliative care team, Jennifer at CCAC, the Bayshore nurses who visited and Dr. Cano. You all made this difficult journey that much easier with your kind, compassionate care of Sheila. Also, a special thanks to good friends, Frankie and Ann who visited faithfully, as well as her friends in LSM, Naples for keeping Sheila in their thoughts with their many cards. Sheila will be fondly remembered and never forgotten by all who knew and loved her. Loving mother of Gérard (Monique), Noël (Ellen), Jean-Marc (Julie), Maurice (Regina Hallows) and Monique Dalcourt (Remi). Predeceased by her children Raymond, Marie Louise (Julie) and Donald. Dear sister of Stella Lapointe (Raymond) and Alfred (Monique) of Laval, QC. Predeceased by her sister Gracia (late Maurice) and by her brothers Xyste, Léandre (Rita), Noël (Stella), Félix (Annette) and Philippe (Joyce). She will be dearly missed by her grandchildren Daniel, Renée, Micheline, Mireille, Jean-Guy, Gilles, Richard, Chantal, Natalie, Patrick, Suzanne, Caroline, Michael, Ryan, Steven, Matthieu, Josée and by her 18 great-grandchildren who whom she was very proud. Maria was an accomplished music teacher for 65 years. She spent many years playing during masses, weddings, funerals and midnight masses. She loved playing Bingo, cards, Yahtzee and doing her daily Sudbury Star crosswords. MARCOTTE, ClaudeIn loving memory of Claude Marcotte, age 82 passed away on August 22nd, 2014 at Health Sciences North Hospital. Claude fought a long and courageous battle with cancer leaving behind his dearest and loving wife Rita (Dequanne), daughter Linda Boileau friend Jacques Cartier, son Richard wife Carole (Gauthier) and granddaughter Sylvie Marcotte friend Billy Serpell. Survived by brother Conrad, wife Jeannine (Ross), sister Linda husband Robert Burke, sisters-in-law Irene and Matilda Marcotte. Also brother and sister-in-law Daniel and Yvonne Deroy. Predeceased by brothers and sisters Nelson, Marcel, Paul-Emile, Yollande and Cecile. Also predeceased by sisters and brothers-in-law, Aline, Ide, Stephane and Moise. Claude worked at Inco, also served on council in Rayside Balfour for 20 years. He also enjoyed camping with his family. Thanks to all staff at York Extendicaire and Health science North Hospital. FOURNIER, GeraldIt is with deep sadness that the family announces his sudden passing on Wednesday, August 20th, 2014 at the age of 57 years. Born Gérald Charles Fournier, December 6th, 1956 to Raoul Fournier and Hélène Fournier (née Fournier) both predeceased. He will be missed by his older brother Raymond Fournier and his wife Diane of Hanmer who were always there for him, also his older sister Suzanne Bradley of Sudbury, who at all times had a listening ear for her brother and his dear little sister, whom he adored, Lise Gascon and her husband John of Lindsay, Ontario. Also, sadly missed by one niece Chantal Hutchinson and four nephews, Brian Bradley, Jamie Bradley (his godson), Steven Bradley, Fab Fournier and their partners and also seven great-nephews and one great-niece. He also leaves behind many friends and family. He will also be missed by his dear friend Lynn Grenier of Hanmer. Gerry was born in Sudbury but moved to Hanmer as a child. He was raised in Hanmer and attended Hanmer High. During his life he worked at Moose Mountain Mine, Lockerby mine and Sudbury Roofing. Gerry loved nature, sports and fishing. He will be remembered for his fun-loving personality and great sense of humour. Gerry was a kind soul. We have been blessed to have had this wonderful man in our lives. At Gerry’s request, there will be no public visitation or service. Arrangements entrusted to the COOPERATIVE FUNERAL HOME, 222 Lasalle Blvd, Sudbury.
