Machan, Wanda2Wanda Machan – of Monkton passed away peacefully surrounded by her family, at Stratford General Hospital on Wednesday August 19, 2015 at the age of 71. Wanda was a former custodian of the Elma Logan Recreation Complex for 20 years. She was a member of the former Monkton Optimist Club, a participant in Monkton Minor sports as a coach and enjoyed playing slo-pitch. She had a great love for animals especially her dog Bella and her cats Sam and Pawz.
Beloved wife of the late Larry Machan who predeceased her on August 2, 2015. Loving mother of Sandra Machan and Tom Crowley and Tammy Machan and John Newbigging. Dear sister of Elroy Davey, Sheila and Jerry Burrows, Nancy Steinbach and Jim McLIwain, Tom and Teresa Davey, Delbert and Kim Davey, James and Cindy Davey, and Brent Davey. Daughter-in-law of Aldeen Machan. Sister-in-law of Bonnie Golightly and friend Phil Hudson, Fay Machan and Bob Mayberry, Gord and Joanne Machan, Robert (Whitey) Machan, Russ Machan, Gerald (Sam) Machan, and Roy Machan. Remembered by many nieces and nephews and special friends Barb Smith, Dawn Yundt and Cheryl Stonely.
Predeceased by her parents Alvin and Margaret (Harbourne) Davey, father-in-law Lloyd (Pud) Machan, brothers-in-law Harvey (Hub) Machan, Bill Steinbach and Wayne Golightly.

Dinsmore, Betty2Betty Dinsmore – of RR2 Listowel, passed away unexpectedly at her residence on Wednesday August 19, 2015 at the age of 73. Betty was a member of the former Trowbridge United Church. She enjoyed spending time quilting, knitting, baking, canning and doing needlepoint. Betty attended the McDonald’s Coffee Club and the Ladies summer card club.
Beloved wife of Jack Dinsmore whom she married in 1959. Loving mother of Mike and Shelley, Brian and Terry, Paul and Bonnie. Special grandma of Jeramey and Candace, Allison, Tyler, Mark, Jeff, and Lindsay. Dear sister of Eileen Ament, Bob and Isabel Hamilton, sister-in-law of Pat Hamilton, Dave and Jean Dinsmore, Jean Ashley and Doris and Ron Ashley. Fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews.

Daryl Burke – of Listowel, formerly of RR2 Atwood, passed away peacefully at Listowel Memorial Hospital on Sunday August 9, 2015 at the age of 76. Daryl was a member of Atwood Presbyterian Church, Atwood W.M.S. and a former member of the Rebekah Atwood Lodge. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting.
Beloved wife of the late Bill Burke who predeceased her in 2010. Fondly remembered by Bill’s nieces and nephews Doug and Vickie Hanna, Ron and Brenda Hanna, Pauline Hanna, Diane and Jack Gabel and their families.
Predeceased by her parents Bill and Irene (Mills) McAllister and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Elwood and Helen Hanna.

Machan,  LarryLarry Machan – of Monkton, passed away peacefully at Stratford General Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer, on Sunday August 2, 2015 at the age of 76. Larry was the President of Machan Construction Ltd which he owned and operated with his brothers. Larry enjoyed going for drives with his friends to Goderich Harbour to watch the big ships and touring through the pits, and enjoyed getting to Tobermory to ride the Chi-Cheemaun. He spent plenty of time drinking a warm Canadian and was greatly interested in going to the Ritchie Bro’s Auctions.
Beloved husband of Wanda (Davey) Machan whom he married in 1971. Loving father of Sandra Machan and Tom Crowley, and Tammy Machan and John Newbigging. Dear son of Aldeen Machan. Brother of Bonnie Golightly and friend Phil Hudson, Fay Machan and Bob Mayberry, Gord and Joanne, Robert (Whitey), Russ, Gerald (Sam) and Roy. Semple, Beryl2SEMPLE, Beryl – formerly of RR1 Atwood, passed away peacefully at her residence in Listowel surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with ALS on Sunday July 5, 2015 at the age of 75. Beryl was a faithful member of Knox Presbyterian Church, Listowel where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday School for many years. She was Past President of Knox Presbyterian W.M.S., volunteered at Youth for Christ in Listowel and was an active member of the Retired Women Teachers Association of Ontario. After her retirement, she tutored children with learning disabilities and those who struggled with reading, writing and arithmetic. Beryl loved spending time with her family, especially her two grandchildren.
Beloved wife of John Semple with whom she would have celebrated 55 years of marriage with on July 30. Loving mother of Karyn (Brad) French, and Brad Semple. Special grandma of Emma and Josh French. Fondly remembered by her nephew Greg and his wife Shannon Byermann and their children Courtney and John.
Predeceased by her parents Ken and Ialeen (Stimore) McFarlane and her sister Doreen and husband Melvin (Bob) Byermann.

Thompson, MacTHOMPSON, Andrew McKeever (Mac) – of Listowel, formerly of RR4 Listowel, passed away peacefully after a short battle with cancer on Thursday June 18, 2015 at the age of 85. Mac was a member of Knox Presbyterian Church, Listowel where he served as Elder for over 30 years. He was an active member of the North Perth Seniors and the Independent Order of Oddfellows Avon Lodge. Mac was also past president of the Listowel Agricultural Society and a charter member of the Listowel Curling Club.
Beloved husband of Phyllis (Armstrong) Thompson whom he married in 1954. Loving father of Ross Thompson, Rick Thompson and Marie Laidlaw, Julie and John Haug, Lynn and Marc Lagerway, Jane Wahl and friend Randy Schubert, Joan and Paul Deacon, Bruce and Shellie Thompson, Lisa Thompson and friend Tammy VanKoughnett. Jack was a member and Elder Emeritus of Knox Presbyterian Church, Listowel. During his dairy farming years, Jack was active with the Milk Marketing Board and the Cheese Board. He enjoyed reading and was a fan of all types of sports.

Gerber, DanDan Gerber – of Millbank, passed away suddenly as a result of a heart attack, at Listowel Memorial Hospital on Wednesday June 3, 2015 at the age of 70. Dan was a member of Poole Mennonite Church. His hobby of restoring John Deere tractors began in 1996 and turned into a full time job with his son Tony in 2003. Dan loved spending time with his family, especially sports events with his grandchildren and more recently enjoyed time riding his motorcycle.
Beloved husband of Darlene (Schwartzentruber) Gerber whom he married in 1970. Loving father of Jamie Gerber and Livian Gould, Tony Gerber and Cathy Steckly. Cherished grandpa of Jordyn, Brady and Joshua. Dear brother of Mahlon and Anna Mae Gerber, Dorothy and Amos Lichty, brother-in-law of Gloria and Gary Boshart, and Bonnie and Dennis Stemmler. Fondly remembered by Jordyn and Brady’s mother Lynnette and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Theresia Clazina (Freeman) Cadeddu, formerly of Atwood, passed away peacefully at her residence in Caressant Care Nursing Home, Listowel on Saturday May 23, 2015 at the age of 87. Theresia was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Listowel.
Beloved wife of the late Salvatore (Sam) Cadeddu who predeceased her on August 6, 2014. Theresia and Salvatore met each other in the sixties in Perugia Italy, where Theresia studied the Italian language and Sam lived at that time. They were married in 1967 and they had a very close relationship together. Fondly remembered by her sisters-in-law Paula Van der Putt, Annerieke Smulders and her nieces and nephews in Holland.
Predeceased by her parents Gerard Pieter Freeman and Adriana Helena Raats, brothers Robert Freeman, Gerard Pieter Freeman, sister Helena Adriana Freeman and brother-in-law Jan Peters.

Lindner, VeraVera Louise Pehlke-Lindner – passed away peacefully at Guelph General Hospital on Saturday May 23, 2015 at the age of 88. She was born on October 9, 1926 to William and Freda (Kahle) Bennewies. On June 2, 1948 she married Wilfred Pehlke. They farmed in Elma Township until they retired to Monkton in May of 1979. Wilfred passed away December 26, 1979. She later married Milton Lindner on June 23, 1984 and he passed away October 16, 2001.
Survived by her children Howard and Ruth Anne, Linda, Ron and Jacquie, Jeff, Brad, Steven and companion Norma Wilker, her brother Ivan Bennewies and his friend Vera Ahrens. Remembered by her grandchildren, Kim, Janice (Trevor McLeod), Lee, David, Barb and Tonya, great grandchildren Michelle and Andrew and many nieces and nephews. Sister-in-law of Lorene Ryan, Lillian and George Smith, Elsie Tryfry and Joan Pehlke. Fondly remembered by five step-children Bernice Lindner, Wayne and Dianne Lindner, Maryann and Norm Yost, Linda Lindner, Murray and Lorraine Lindner, Mark and Patty-Jo Lindner, several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren.

Jantzi, LaverneJANTZI, Laverne – finished the course and was received into his eternal home on Friday May 1, 2015 at Knollcrest Lodge, Milverton in his 85th year following a courageous struggle with ALS. Lovingly remembered by his children, Glen and Ellie of St Clements, Myron and Mary of Brunner, Larry and Dorothy of Calgary, Ruth Anne and Jonathan of Stratford, 12 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Predeceased by his wife Ruth (Jantzi) in 1995, brother Ivan and sister-in-law Marie, parents Nicholas and Mary and granddaughter Rebecca.
Laverne will be missed by surviving brothers and sisters-in-law, Irvin and Ellen Jantzi, Ohmer and Esther Jantzi and nieces and nephews. Also missed by special friend Florence McFarlane.
In 1997 Laverne married Ruth (Roth) who predeceased him in 2010. Fondly remembered by Ruth’s children, Karen and Ed Gunn of Vancouver BC, Barry and Sharon Roth of Tokyo Japan, Darryl and Catharine Roth of Victoria BC, Melanie and Paul Smith of London and four grandchildren.
The family deeply appreciated the supportive community Dad was privileged to be part of at Nithview Community in New Hamburg for many years. Words cannot express the gratitude for the phenomenal care provided by staff at Knollcrest Lodge in Milverton for the past five months.

Jimmie was a member of the former Donegal United Church and a former member of the Canadian Order of Forresters and the Donegal Chapter of the Loyal Orange Lodge.

Ruby Hoover – of Brussels, passed away peacefully after a brief battle with cancer at Listowel Memorial Hospital on Saturday April 25, 2015 in her 84th year.
Beloved wife of Russell Hoover whom she married in 1955. Loving mother of Terry and Diane of RR1 Atwood and Bob and Sandy of RR2 Atwood. Special grandma of Samuel, Victoria and Krista. Fondly remembered by her nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by her parents Percy and Minnie (Houck) Puterbaugh, sisters Irene and her husband Wilfred Bowes, and Marion Warren.
In keeping with Ruby’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation or funeral service.

Ballantyne, JeanJean L. Ballantyne – formerly of Atwood and Listowel, passed away peacefully at her residence in Knollcrest Lodge, Milverton on Monday March 30, 2015 at the age of 95. Jean was a member of Knox Presbyterian Church, Listowel where she had served as elder. She was also a member of the Willing Workers and a 50 year member of the Elma Centre Women’s Institute. After moving to Listowel, Jean became the librarian, a position she held for over 25 years. Along with Brad Scheifele, Jean organized many bus trips for seniors to places in Canada and the United States.
Dear sister-in-law of Jean M. Ballantyne of Listowel. Fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
She was the last surviving member of her family, being predeceased by her parents John and Alice (Coghlin) Ballantyne, her sisters Annie and her husband Harry Gould, Agnes and her husband Bill Harrow, her brothers Robert and his wife Ann Ballantyne, Jack Ballantyne, Gordon Ballantyne and one brother in infancy.

Subject, CalvinCalvin Subject – of Monkton, passed away unexpectedly of a heart attack, on Wednesday March 4, 2015 at the age of 48. Calvin was a truck driver for Atwood Resources. He was an executive member and coach with the Palmerston Jr. Broomball Association where he spent many hours watching his children play. Calvin enjoyed games of chance and spending time in his favorite lazy boy chair watching Ice Road Truckers and Gold Rush Alaska. He will be remembered as a collector of treasures.

Loving father of Daniel and Kelsey, both at home. Dear brother and brother-in-law of Joanne Broughton, Kim and Steve Smith, Steven and Christina Subject, Chantell and Mark Carreiro. Son-in-law of Myrna and Fred Lacroix. Survived by his special friend Shelly Lockie and her children Amber and Jordan. Fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews and the extended Subject, Stevens, Hiusser, Clarke and Lockie families and close friends John and Christine Lenselink and girls.

Predeceased by his wife Sandee (Robinson) Subject, his father George Subject, his mother Helen Subject and her partner Gerald (Blinky) Hiusser and brother-in-law Bob Broughton.

Ruby was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Monkton and a former member of Kuryville Women’s Institute. She enjoyed gardening, playing cards, cooking, quilting and crocheting.
Beloved wife of the late Eldon (Elt) Mueller who predeceased her in 1996. Loving mother of Gary and Linda Mueller of RR3 Monkton, and Lundy Priestap (Lillian predeceased 1998) of RR2 Monkton. Special grandma of Kim and Rob Dearing and their children Eric, Emily and Ethan, and Dennis and Leona Mueller and their children Avery, Hanna and Rylee. Ina was a faithful member of Atwood Presbyterian Church, the Women’s Missionary Society and Ladies Aid. She was also a member of the Women’s Institute, a 4H Leader and enjoyed baking, quilting and poultry farming.
Beloved wife of the late John McMillan who predeceased her in 2005. Loving mother of Keith and Bonnie of Bayfield, Murray and Linda of Australia, Kevin and Carrie of Virginia, and Marion of Mitchell. Mother-in-law of Percy Coulter of Listowel. Barbara Moore – of Monkton, formerly of Kitchener, passed away peacefully at KW Health Centre of Grand River Hospital on Friday February 6, 2015 at the age of 61. Barbie was a Registered Practical Nurse at Cambridge Memorial Hospital for many years prior to her retirement. She enjoyed fishing, camping, knitting, horses and being in the country. Barbie loved spending time with her family and sharing her “big heart” and her love of life.

Annie was a faithful member of Atwood United Church where she played organ for many years and prior to that was organist at Donegal United Church. Annie had also played organ at Caressant Care Nursing Home and for many funeral services at the former Peebles Funeral Home. She was a member of Atwood U.C.W. and the Listowel Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Beloved wife of the late John Irvine who predeceased her in 1987. Loving mother of Betty and Paul Clarke and Jim and Bonnie Irvine. Special grandma of Scott (Christie) Clarke, Tim (Debbie) Clarke and Todd (Dale) Irvine and great-grandma of Mitchel, Michaela, Beckett and Griffith Clarke. Fondly remembered by several nieces and nephews.

Brand, MartinMartin Brand – of Milverton, formerly of Atwood, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, at Stratford General Hospital on Tuesday December 9, 2014 at the age of 80. Martin was a former volunteer firefighter with the Atwood station, a former school bus driver and a member of the Atwood Men’s Club. He loved gardening and always had the largest garden in the neighbourhood. Martin enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren playing cards and board games.

Beloved husband of the late Ruth (Ropp) Brand who predeceased him in 2001. Loving father of Judi and Louis Gasparik and David and Wendy Brand. Special grandpa of Zakk, Owen, Alicia, Greg, and Jaymee. Dear brother of Kees, Sister Marie Brand, Bill and Toni, John and Margaret, Adrian, Gilbert and Annie, Paul and Mary, and Corrie Kehoe.
