Subject, CalvinCalvin Subject – of Monkton, passed away unexpectedly of a heart attack, on Wednesday March 4, 2015 at the age of 48. Calvin was a truck driver for Atwood Resources. He was an executive member and coach with the Palmerston Jr. Broomball Association where he spent many hours watching his children play. Calvin enjoyed games of chance and spending time in his favorite lazy boy chair watching Ice Road Truckers and Gold Rush Alaska. He will be remembered as a collector of treasures.

Loving father of Daniel and Kelsey, both at home. Dear brother and brother-in-law of Joanne Broughton, Kim and Steve Smith, Steven and Christina Subject, Chantell and Mark Carreiro. Son-in-law of Myrna and Fred Lacroix. Survived by his special friend Shelly Lockie and her children Amber and Jordan. Fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews and the extended Subject, Stevens, Hiusser, Clarke and Lockie families and close friends John and Christine Lenselink and girls.

Predeceased by his wife Sandee (Robinson) Subject, his father George Subject, his mother Helen Subject and her partner Gerald (Blinky) Hiusser and brother-in-law Bob Broughton.

Visitation will be held at the Brenneman Funeral Home, 141 John Street, Atwood (519-356-2382), on Saturday March 7th from 1-4 and 6-9 p.m. The funeral service to celebrate Calvin’s life will be held at the Elma Memorial Community Centre, Atwood on Sunday March 8, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. Spring interment in Elma Centre Cemetery, Atwood.

Mueller, RubyRuby Mueller – of Mitchell, formerly of RR3 Monkton, passed away peacefully at Mitchell Nursing Home on Sunday March 1, 2015 at the age of 95. Ruby was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Monkton and a former member of Kuryville Women’s Institute. She enjoyed gardening, playing cards, cooking, quilting and crocheting.
Beloved wife of the late Eldon (Elt) Mueller who predeceased her in 1996. Loving mother of Gary and Linda Mueller of RR3 Monkton, and Lundy Priestap (Lillian predeceased 1998) of RR2 Monkton. Special grandma of Kim and Rob Dearing and their children Eric, Emily and Ethan, and Dennis and Leona Mueller and their children Avery, Hanna and Rylee. Greatly missed by Maxine, Dwayne, Brian, Joanne, Kevin, Brad, Cheryl and their families. Fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews.
Ruby was the last surviving member of her family being predeceased by her parents Andrew and Agnes (Kerr) Diehl, her brothers Lorne and his wife Edna Diehl, Ross and his wife Ruth Diehl, Orval and his wife Jean Diehl, her sisters Laurene and her husband Paul Mogk, Eileen and Dorothy both in infancy, granddaughter Darlene Mueller and grandson Wayne Priestap both in infancy.

McMillan, InaIna Gertrude McMillan – of Mitchell, passed away peacefully at her residence on Friday February 20, 2015 one day after her 90th birthday. Ina was a faithful member of Atwood Presbyterian Church, the Women’s Missionary Society and Ladies Aid. She was also a member of the Women’s Institute, a 4H Leader and enjoyed baking, quilting and poultry farming.
Beloved wife of the late John McMillan who predeceased her in 2005. Loving mother of Keith and Bonnie of Bayfield, Murray and Linda of Australia, Kevin and Carrie of Virginia, and Marion of Mitchell. Mother-in-law of Percy Coulter of Listowel. Special grandma of Lucas and Kelly McMillan and their daughters Alexandra and Abigail; Heather and Jason Denstedt; Ian and Sheena McMillan; Candace and Patrick Skerman; Amy and Ben White and their children Emily and Dale; Alasdair and Danielle McMillan and their daughter Elspeth; Benjamin Hollenbeck; Adam Coulter; Matthew Coulter and Richard Ireland. Barbara Moore – of Monkton, formerly of Kitchener, passed away peacefully at KW Health Centre of Grand River Hospital on Friday February 6, 2015 at the age of 61. Barbie was a Registered Practical Nurse at Cambridge Memorial Hospital for many years prior to her retirement. She enjoyed fishing, camping, knitting, horses and being in the country. Barbie loved spending time with her family and sharing her “big heart” and her love of life.

Annie was a faithful member of Atwood United Church where she played organ for many years and prior to that was organist at Donegal United Church. Annie had also played organ at Caressant Care Nursing Home and for many funeral services at the former Peebles Funeral Home. She was a member of Atwood U.C.W. and the Listowel Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Beloved wife of the late John Irvine who predeceased her in 1987. Loving mother of Betty and Paul Clarke and Jim and Bonnie Irvine. Special grandma of Scott (Christie) Clarke, Tim (Debbie) Clarke and Todd (Dale) Irvine and great-grandma of Mitchel, Michaela, Beckett and Griffith Clarke. Martin was a former volunteer firefighter with the Atwood station, a former school bus driver and a member of the Atwood Men’s Club. He loved gardening and always had the largest garden in the neighbourhood. Martin enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren playing cards and board games.

Beloved husband of the late Ruth (Ropp) Brand who predeceased him in 2001. Loving father of Judi and Louis Gasparik and David and Wendy Brand. Special grandpa of Zakk, Owen, Alicia, Greg, and Jaymee. He enjoyed gardening and woodworking in his spare time.

Shirley Verstoep – passed away peacefully at Ritz Lutheran Villa on Thursday October 23, 2014 at the age of 83. Shirley was a devoted member of the Monkton United Church and a long time member of the Women’s Institute. She enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family.

Beloved wife for 59 years of Adrian Verstoep. Loving mother of Marian Hutchinson, Hugh and Pearl Verstoep, Marjorie and David Lindsay, Linda and Ted Groenestege, Barbara Verstoep, Leo Verstoep, Leona and Jeff Donaldson. Missed by her 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Fondly remembered by her sisters-in-law Doris Lamont and Jean Storey, five brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law in the Netherlands and many nieces and nephews.

Arlan resided at Nithview Community, New Hamburg and was formerly of Millbank. He was a member of Heritage Mennonite Church, Millbank and had served with the Gospel Echoes prison ministry for many years. Arlan enjoyed woodworking and spending time with his family and friends.

Beloved husband of Marion (Nafziger) Erb whom he married in 1951. Loving father of Duane and Jean, Twila Brenneman, Daryl and Norma. Broughton, FlorenceFlorence Broughton – of Listowel, passed away peacefully at Listowel Memorial Hospital on Wednesday October 8, 2014 at the age of 88. Florence was a member of Knox Presbyterian Church, Listowel, Perth Star Rebekah Lodge No. 331, Loyal True Blue Lodge No. 415 Trowbridge and the Wallace Women’s Missionary Society. She will be remembered by many as the person who was always there for anybody who needed help.

Beloved wife of the late Bill Broughton who predeceased her in 1981. Sister-in-law of Gwen, Pearl, Dorothy, Millie, Helen, Lottie, Georgina and Bob. Fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews.

Florence was the last surviving member of her family being predeceased by her parents Edward and Anna (Krotz) Fischer, siblings Roy, June, Carrie all in infancy, Elsie, Arthur, Una, Julius, Milton, Norma, Howard, Gladys and Lawrence.

Stolz, HenryHenry Stolz – of Mount Forest, formerly of Monkton, passed away unexpectedly at Louise Marshall Hospital on Tuesday September 30, 2014 at the age of 85. Henry was an all around outdoors man enjoying hunting, riding his ATV, cutting wood in the bush and puttering around Monkton on his golf cart.

Beloved husband of the late Beatrice (Wourms) Stolz who predeceased him in 2004. Loving father of Stan and Glenda Stolz, Stella and Calvin Haug, and Dianne and Jason Heilman. Special grandpa of Derick, Nicholas, Tyler and Jen and their daughter Mia, Nathan, Michael, Daniel, Shannah and Michael. Fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews.

Henry was the last surviving member of his family, being predeceased by his parents Joseph and Katherine (Etchon) Stolz, one brother and four sisters. Predeceased by his children Mary and Joseph in infancy.

  Gilkinson, Beatrice  Beatrice Gilkinson, of Listowel, passed away unexpectedly at her residence on Wednesday September 24, 2014 at the age of 75.

Beloved wife of Stewart Gilkinson whom she married in 1958. Loving mother of Allen Gilkinson, Margaret and Dave Quinlan. Special nan of Erin and Jason Cressman and daughter Kelsey; Lacey Ruppel and friend Chad; Jenna Ruppel and Jamie Scott; Mike and Rebekah Quinlan and children Esther Grace, Caden, and Asher; Robyn and Chris Raben and children Tyler, Wyatt and Briar; David Quinlan Jr.; and Danielle Quinlan. Dear sister of Wilma and Bill Cherrey, Tex and Rosemary Donohue, Pat Donohue, Dianne Mitchell and sister-in-law of Nora Donohue. Fondly remembered by Joe Ruppel, many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by her parents Barney and Eva (Thompson) Donohue, son Steven, sister Elva and brothers John and Carmen.

Visitation will be held at the Brenneman Funeral Home, Atwood on Friday September 26 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the Listowel Salvation Army on Saturday September 27, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. Interment in Fairview Cemetery, Listowel.

Special grandpa of Scott and Samantha, Carissa and Chad, Sarah and Jeff, Asha and Joel, Jeremy and Bev, Justin and Pam, Ryan and great grandpa of Hannah, Olivia, Hudson, Brynn, Jayce, Hayden, Brysen and Quinn. Beloved son of Sandra (Johnston) Subject and the late Bruce Subject who predeceased him on June 2, 2014. Loving brother of Fred and Lisa Subject, Tammy Subject and James Taylor, Jackee and Peter Dunnink. Special uncle of Dairian, Keirsten, Christian, Benjamen, Cadence, Lauren, Felicity, Leland, Weston and Hudson. Cherished grandson of Irene Johnston. Peebles, StuartStuart Peebles – formerly of Atwood, passed away peacefully at Stratford General Hospital on August 16, 2014 at the age of 93. Stuart resided at Ritz Lutheran Villa, Mitchell with his beloved wife Jean whom he married in 1958. He was a member of Knox Presbyterian Church, Monkton, a life member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodge No. 332 and a former member of the Atwood Men’s Chorus. Stuart was an avid gardener specializing in growing roses, did many free-hand drawings and paintings of nature scenes and loved doing crossword and word search puzzles. He served in the Reserves during World War II.

Survived by his wife Jean (Yeoman) Peebles. Loving father of Doug Peebles, Mary and Stephen Reed, Moira and Trevor Barnes, Muriel Vandepol and Paul Coupé, Les and Lori Peebles. Special grandpa of Brian Peebles and Stacey Fletcher, Russ Peebles, Jen Peebles and Ken Buck, Natasha Reed and Nick Tuskan, Nigel Reed, Alycia Reed, Danica Barnes and Aaron Ogunsanya, Nathan Barnes, Nicole Vandepol and Kevin Andrew, Brett Vandepol, Megan Peebles and great-grandpa of Damian, Evelyn, Dominic and Mackenzie. Fondly remembered by Virginia Peebles, brother-in-law Stephen Yeoman, sister-in-law Margaret Nicholl and by several nieces and nephews.

Holmes, HildaHilda Holmes – formerly of Listowel, passed away peacefully at Brucelea Haven, Walkerton on Sunday August 3, 2014 at the age of 97. Hilda was a member of Christ Anglican Church, Listowel. She was a member of the Dorcas Group of Christ Anglican Church until they disbanded in 2005 and a former member of North Star Circle. Hilda was an avid gardener, card player and euchre champion. She received many first place ribbons at local fairs for her quilts. Hilda enjoyed all the time spent with her family.

Beloved wife of the late Cecil Holmes who predeceased her in 1986. Loving mother of Marjorie Palmer of Richmond Hill and Reta Cunningham of Walkerton. Special grandma of Gary and Laura Young, Sherry and Jeff Long, Susan and David Lahonen, Tambra Breckell and Tracy Hayward; great grandma of Holly Young, Davalena and Logan Lahonen, Cole, Liam and MacKenzie Breckell, Mitchell Hayward (Emily), Justin and Hannah Hayward and great-great grandma of Kingston Hayward. Dorothea was the daughter of the late John and Helen (Pretswell) Keith. She was a member of Trowbridge United Church and a life member of Trowbridge U.C.W.  She enjoyed quilting, knitting, playing cards and spending time with her family.

Beloved wife of the late Alfred Green who predeceased her in 2003. Loving mother of Doug of RR2 Listowel, Don and Maria of Monkton. Special grandma of Wesley of Mississauga, Tina and Jesse Beirnes of Listowel, Jesse of Monkton and great grandma of Parker Beirnes. Fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews.

Dorothea was the last surviving member of her family being predeceased by her sisters Agnes and her husband Clarence Duncan, Bella and her husband Milton Denstedt, her brothers Marshall and his wife Catherine Keith, and James Keith in infancy. Also predeceased by her son Dale in infancy.

Loving mother of Lance and Sai of Richmond BC, Lana and Hugh Simpson of Sarnia, Nora and Ken Jarmuth of Monkton, Tammy Cook of Monkton. Special grandma of Ashley (Omid), Aaron (Carlee), Phil (Stephanie), Mike (Erica), Amy, Stephanie (Tyler), Candice (Cory) and great-grandma of Ethan, Owen, Anna, James, Kate and Peyton. Dear sister of Marie Hiltz of Listowel and sister-in-law of Gord Cupskey of Monkton. Fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews.

Beloved wife of Gord Cupskey whom she married in 1954. Loving mother of Ron and Mary, Laverne, Diane and Dennis Simpson, Paul and partner Darlene, Pauline Taylor, Colleen and Dave Scott, Debbie and Craig Dufton, Bruce, Doug and Cauline. Special grandma of 19 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Dear sister of Marie Hiltz and Joyce Yundt. Also loved by Mike and Terry Duncan and many nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by her parents Jim and Kate Duncan, son-in-law Terry Taylor, daughter-in-law Beth Young, brothers Delford and his wife Donna Duncan, Kenny Duncan, brothers-in-law Brian Hiltz and John Yundt.
