Williams, Ernest “Ernie” of Petrolia and formerly of Galt/Preston, passed away suddenly at Bluewater Health, Sarnia on Monday, March 13, 2017 in his 78th year. Ernie will be extremely missed by his wife Helen (Mater). He is survived by his children Jaymie Brown, Don Brown (Carol), Karen Hammond (Dave), Brodie Williams (Monika), Michelle Bidner (Todd) and Kevin Dobbyn (Amy). Loving grandfather to Steven Brown, Jamie & Nathan Hammond, Sarah Gehue, Sophie & Sadie Williams, Dylan Carter, Colton Bidner, Alexa & Aidan Dobbyn. Cherished great grandfather to Kincade & Dominic Brown, Chloee, Markus and Meekah. Survived by his sister, Mary Baker (Gordon, deceased), many nieces, nephews and friends. At Ernie’s request, a private family service will be held in Dresden. Cremation has already taken place. A Celebration of Ernie’s life will be held at the Petrolia Lions Hall, 451 Huggard St., Petrolia, on Saturday, March 18th, 2017 from 1:00 – 4:00 PM (come and share your funny stories and memories of Ernie). Ernie was an employee with the Town of Petrolia and Hull Bus Lines. He was a dedicated member to the Petrolia Lions Club for 19 years where he held many roles. He was the recipient of the Helen Kellar Fellowship and Lion of the Year. Born in Chatham Township, daughter of the late George and Arnettie (Richardson) Highgate. Beloved wife of the late James Edward Davis (1996). She is predeceased by her brothers George, Garnet and Archie Highgate and sisters Irene Travis and Alma Johnson. She is survived by her brothers William of Windsor and John (Jean) of Waterloo and three sisters-in-law Beatrice Burnett, Burene Highgate and Wilbur Highgate. Loving mother and grandmother of Michael and Lorraine Davis of British Columbia and their children, Kaitlyn and Gabriel; Gary Davis of Lindsay and his children, Daryl and Adam (Ami); Bradley Davis of China and his children, Reuben (Virginia), Aaron and Mary Ruth; Kathryn and Garry Tatsu of Chatham and their children, Kirk (Monique), Corey (Jenn) and Kristyn (Darrell). Myrtle was the proud great-grandmother of twelve great grandchildren. She also leaves behind to mourn her passing several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. KLARA ZYMELKAKlara Zymelka passed away at the age of 92 on Monday, August 15, 2016 at Extendicare Long Term Care, London. She had resided in Ridgetown for over 50 years before moving to London in 2011 because of declining health. She was the only daughter of Stefan and Marii Stativa and wife of the late Ludwik Zymelka.She is survived by her son Ludwig Michael Zymelka and daughters Helen Watson, Mary Forrest, Elizabeth Scott (Bruce) and Theresa Hachey all of London, Gladys Wignall (Doug) of Waterloo.Babica will be missed by her grandchildren Greg (Suzette), Matthew, and Heather Scott; Deborah (Maykal) and Samantha (Jordan) Forrest; Jill Lobodici (Steve), Riley, and Kacy Wignall, and by her great-grandchildren Olivia and Brandon, Ava and Kalliope.Against tremendous odds, Klara survived WWII in Russia, Poland, and Germany and then immigrated to Canada with her husband and two children 1949.In Ridgetown, she participated enthusiastically in many activities enjoying people and helping whenever and wherever she could. From 1969 she was a dedicated active member of the Ladies Auxiliary to Branch 243 of the Royal Canadian Legion. She was also devoted to St. Michael’s Church and the Catholic Women’s League. She received recognition from each for her lifetime of service and contribution. For many fund raising events she participated, with many ladies in her kitchen, in marathon productions of perogi and cabbage rolls. One of her greatest joys was baking and sharing her baked goods with her family and many friends in the community. Rarely, could you leave her home without something in hand.Her enthusiasm for fun was contagious. She loved being with people and was very generous in numerous ways with all who crossed her path.Although she lived in London for the past 6 years, Ridgetown remained her home in her heart.Klara requested there be no visitation and immediate cremation. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church, Ridgetown on Saturday, October 8, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. followed by interment in St. Michael’s Cemetery.Donations to the Alzheimer’s Society or the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 243, Ridgetown Poppy Fund  in her memory would be appreciated by the family. FRED EVANSEvans: Fred Joseph, passed away peacefully in Chatham-Kent on Thursday, August 4, 2016. Born in Chatham on March 3, 1954, Fred will be deeply missed by his mother Pauline Evans (Kresan). Lovingly remembered by his siblings Larry Evans, Carl Evans, Anne Spurgeon; nieces and nephews Becky, Robert, Carol, Darlene, and Patrick. Fred’s one and only pride and joy, his daughter Danielle Bird-Evans (Matt Ulch) and he recently became a proud grandpa to little Abigail Jade Ulch. Fred is fondly remembered by Danielle’s sister Heaven List. He is predeceased by his father  Robert Thomas Evans (1993) and his nephew Kiley (2013). Fred was a hard working man his whole life and unique in many ways. He retired from Navistar in 2004. Fred could be found gardening out at his brother Larry’s and playing pool at the KBD in Chatham. He also enjoyed 4 wheeling and attending Nascar parties in Bothwell. He was always lending a helping hand to many. In his prime, Fred was an avid ball player and pitched for the Thamesville Colts, Sunshine Asparagus Farms and Nova Slo-Pitch teams. Life’s simple pleasures kept Fred busy and happy, but his daughter blessed his heart. Fred was an excellent father, deeply caring and never missed a birthday or family celebration with Danielle. He will forever be in her heart. Danielle and the Evans family invite you to Celebrate Fred’s Life with them at the Thamesville Legion, 32 Victoria Ave, Thamesville, on Saturday, August 20, 2016 from 1:00PM – 4:00PM. FANSHER: Frederick Dexter “Fred” formerly of Shetland

FRED FANSHERFansher: Frederick “Fred”, formerly of Shetland, passed away peacefully at Westmount Gardens, London on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at the age of 91. Born in Euphemia Twp., Lambton County, on may 14, 1925, his parents Meda (Walker) and Burt Fansher. He was educated at SS#4 Euphemia and Florence Continuation School. In 1958 he accepted total responsibility for operating the farm lands, previously tended by four generations of the Fansher name. Fred was always involved in Church life and carried these guidlines with him all his life. In his youth he was to display leadership qualities in programs of the Church, 4 H Clubs, and Junior Farmers of Ontario. He was always interested in history and geneology. Fred met his wife Helen through Jr. Farmers when they both served on the provincial executive. They were married September 27, 1958 and were the proud parents of Wende Fansher of Kitchener and Gordon Fansher (Jan Hurlbut) of London. Fred was the much admired grandfather “Papa”  of  Matthew, Chloe and Dexter Fansher. Dear brother of  Mary Louise Stuart (late Virgil), Lucy Ann Brien (Harry). Also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Predeceased by his  twin brother John  Fansher (2007) and sister-in-law Louise Fansher (1988). The Fansher family will receive friends at the Badder & Robinson Funeral Home, 211 Elm St., Bothwell on Friday from 2:00- 4:00PM and 7:00 – 9:00PM. Sadly missed by 5 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. Dear sister of Christine Christensen. GERALD HOLMESHolmes: Gerald  “Jerry” a resident of Thamesville, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at Four Counties Health Services, Newbury on Sunday, June 12, 2016 at the age of 89. Born in Dawn Mills, son of the late Bryan and Estella (Terhune) Holmes. Jerry worked at  National Grocers for 36 years retiring in 1985, and than started working for  Badder Funeral Homes for 25 years. Jerry refurbished old furniture, loved going to the harness races in Dresden and sang many solos at weddings, funerals and church services over the years.  He was a member of the Thamesville United Church, the Church Choir and the Men’s AOTS.  Beloved husband of Wilda (Cox) Holmes. Loving father and father-in-law of Jayne and John Parker (Crystal), Karen and Dennis Badder. Loving grandpa to Jeffrey Parker (Crystal), Jennifer O’Brien  (Chris), Timothy Badder (Joanne).  Dear brother of Leato Wetherald and Jean Law. Also survived by sister-in-law Ida Holmes and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by sisters Thelma Crysdale and her husband Stewart,  Edna Avery and her husband Ed and his brother Allen Holmes and brothers-in-law Allan Law and Murray Wetherald. Smith: Donald Blake a resident of Chatham, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 26, 2016 in his 84th year at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance. Don is survived by his wife Annie (Lovell), children: Dennis & Lisa Smith, Lynn Smith & George Denkers, Diane (Dragstra) & Bryan Edmondson, Dean Smith & Connie Young, Janice & Robin Dudley. Brother John & Phyllis Smith. Sisters Donna Ouellette, Margo & Gerard Bechard. Sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Mary Dehens, Alvie & Yvonne Lovell. He was a proud grandpa to 17 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. He is survived by many nieces and nephews. Don is predeceased by his parents Harold & Pearl Smith, brothers Wayne & Rose Smith, Harland & Kay Smith, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Maurice Ouellette, Walt Dehens, Will & Helen Lovell, Ken & Bella Lovell. Don was retired from Navistar International. He went on to drive bus for 15 years at Badder Bus Services. He had a love for the game of hockey and coached or managed many teams in Chatham and Dresden. He was a devoted fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs. Jeremy Van Der Paelt3Van Der Paelt: Jeremy F.  passed away suddenly as the result of an ATV accident on Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at the age of 21. Much loved son of Carol (Van Der Paelt) Wilson (Dan), Jeff Van Der Paelt (Carol). Jeremy will be forever missed by his best friend and sister Brittany Van Der Paelt and her fiance Brendan Allen and step sister Mckenzi and step brother  Logan. Cherished grandson of Joseph and Martha Van Der Paelt, John and Shirley Bloom and Eileen Wilson. Sadly missed by Aunts and Uncles, Ron and Sarah Van Der Paelt (Zachary, Madeline, and Nicholas), Bob and Doreen Bloom (Bill and Kristen), Cathy and Mark Smith (Jennifer (Matt) and Ashley), Kim and Joe Neto, Kim Wilson, Sean and Lisa Wilson (Griff and Kam), Dawn Cooper (Will, Brook, Molly, and Ella). Jeremy graduated from the Good Shepherd School, Thamesville, the Pines Chatham, and Lambton College, Sarnia. He was employed as a power engineer at Shell Canada, Sarnia. Jeremy enjoyed coming home to the farm and spent much time fishing and hunting. He loved to travel and will be remembered for his kindness and his sense of humour. Jeremy you will be forever in our hearts. Family and friends will be received at the John C.
