Armstrong William Leroy of Dutton

Posted by on June 22, 2017

William (Bill) Leroy. Beloved husband of the late Eileen (Wills) (1995). He will be greatly missed by his children Dianne (Ron) Payne, David (Eda), Dennis (Jackie), Cindy (Joe) Soos, and Denise (Todd) Clark. Proud and loving Grandpa to Nicole Rose, Christine (Brent) Brooks, Sam Armstrong, Carl (Taryn) Armstrong, Michael (Karla) Soos, Joe (Erika) Armstrong, Alicia (Darren) McLaws, Daniel (Lindsay) Armstrong, Sara (Jamie) Henshaw and great grandpa to Mason and Charlotte Brooks, Naomi and Jayde Armstrong, Kenzie McLaws, Evangeline and Lincoln Armstrong. Predeceased by his parents Pierce and Viola (Soper) Armstrong. Survived by brothers Fred and Robert, sisters Marilyn and Bonnie, as well as sister-in-law’s Dolores and Evelyn. Predeceased by brothers Murray and Jack, brother-in-law Bob Tew. Lovingly remembered by his many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In 1964 Bill and his wife Eileen bought a farm in Dutton and raised their family there. He grew to have a love for all things Dutton – Mancaris, Laramys, Co-Trac and all the friends that he visited/had coffee with there. After his move to Ashwood Manor, he visited Dutton often, always gathering a crowd of the locals who missed his jokes and stories. The Armstrong family have a loyalty to their hometown, a very caring community. Bill was a farmer, mechanic and drainage tiler. His passion was fixing things, figuring out how to get an engine working. In retirement, gas engines became his biggest hobby. He travelled to Kansas, Indiana, Quebec and Iowa, always on the hunt for engines and parts. Being such a kid at heart, he loved being a Grandpa. He loved riding in four seater airplanes. He liked Pelee Island. He was known for his red trucks and blue tractors. Stroke and dementia robbed him of his ability to live his last years in the style he was accustomed to, but he was proud and determined to blend into Ashwood and was very appreciative of his kids caring for him there. Bill will be missed by many, he was truly one of a kind. Relatives and friends will be received at the Arn Funeral Home 193 Shackleton St. Dutton 519-762-2416 Thursday June 22, 2017 2-4 & 7-9. Private family funeral service. Donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated. Email condolences arnfuneralhome@bellnet.ca
