At Meadow Park Nursing Home, Chatham, on Tuesday April 25th, 2017, Mr. August Sunnen of Chatham in his 96th year.  Cherished son of the late August “Gus” and Charlotte (nee Williams) Sunnen.  In 75th year with his beloved wife, and best friend, Marian (nee Porter).  Loving and devoted father of James “Jim” of Chatham, John and his wife Linda Sunnen of Solana Beach, CA, Paul and his wife Bonnie Sunnen of Chatham, and Donald and his wife Elaine of Lexington VA.  He was the proud and adoring grandfather of Christopher, Jennifer, Brian, Nicole, Steve, Amelia and Jonah, and great grandfather of Zadie Sunnen, Milo Sunnen, Kerry Connelly, and Nathaniel Sunnen.  Dear stepbrother of David West of Florida.  Predeceased by his sister Marjorie Storey, brother Eugene Sunnen, and stepsister Patricia West Higgs.  Augie served overseas with the U.S. Navy as a Lieutenant j.g. during the Second World War.  He was the proud owner of Sunnen Products Ltd. in Chatham, now Guspro Inc. operated now by his son Paul with grandsons Brian and Steve, founded as a family business in 1932.  He was the Executive Vice President of Sunnen Products of St. Louis from 1975-1980.  August had been recognized for his community service by the Governor-General, and he was a long-time member of St. Andrew’s United Church, and had received a 35 year service Award from the Rotary Club of Chatham.  Augie served on the board of the YMCA and the CKHA.  Family and friends are invited to the ALEXANDER & HOULE FUNERAL HOME, 245 Wellington West, Chatham, 519-352-2710 on Friday April 28th with visiting from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.  The funeral service will be conducted from St. Andrew’s United Church, 85 William St. South, Chatham, on Saturday April 29th at 11 a.m. with Gabriella Cutler officiating.  Cremation to follow with a private family interment to take place at Maple Leaf Cemetery, Chatham.  Friends planning an expression of remembrance are asked to consider C-K Hospice Foundation, Rotary Club of Chatham, and Chatham-Kent Family YMCA Foundation.  On-line condolences may be left at www.alexanderfuneralhome

Surrounded by his loving family at Meadow Park Nursing Home, Chatham, on Wednesday April 12th, 2017, Mr. Adrian Rombouts of Chatham in his 92nd year passed away.  Cherished son of the late Jack and Anne Rombouts.  Beloved husband of the late Mary (February 14th, 2017).  Loving father of Anne Rombouts of Chatham, John Rombouts and his wife Connie of Innisfil, Jane Smith of Chatham, Mary Rombouts and her husband Dave Reid of Chatham, Nancy Forster and her husband Tom of Lambeth, Rita Van Hal and her husband Pete of Blenheim, Sue Rombouts of Chatham, and Andy Rombouts and his wife Lauralee of Dorchester.  He will be lovingly remembered by his fourteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Peacefully at her residence on Thursday January 21st, 2016, Mrs. Carol Lewis of Chatham in 70th year.  Cherished daughter of the late Chester and Freida Agar.  Beloved wife and best friend of Murray.  Loving twin sister of Catherine Miller of Peterborough and predeceased by her brother Allan Agar.  Carol was a long time employee of Union Gas where she worked alongside her best buddy Charlene (Bob) Lindsay for years.  Carol liked the classic cars she rode in and drove, was just a classic glamour gal herself with a glitzy outlook on life, an infectious laugh, and a ready and welcome for all she met.  Friends old and new all shared the same view of Carol.  She was happy at the worst of times and at the best of times she was just down right fabulous.  Murray would like to thank Jane our friend who was on every step of this journey with Carol, Dr. Carolyn Hamm and nurses in the chemo unit at Windsor Region Cancer Centre, and Dr. Heather Milkovic.  Special thanks to the nurses in ambulatory care and the chemo unit at CKHA, everyone from Bayshore and CCAC, Hematology and Stem Cell Transplant Unit at Princess Margaret Hospital, and the Stem Cell Transplant Unit at Juravinski Cancer Centre.  Family and friends are invited to the ALEXANDER & HOULE FUNERAL HOME, 245 Wellington West, Chatham, 519-352-2710 on Monday January 25th visiting from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the funeral home on Tuesday January 26th at 11 a.m. with Rev. SULMAN: Mr. George Douglas Baxter of Chatham

After a long life, he died peacefully on May 8th, 2015, surrounded by his family. Predeceased by his parents, Charles Douglas (“Ted”) and Ileen Floretta (Baxter) Sulman; his sisters Patty Coulter, Jackie Keenan, Sally McKay and Sue Cumming. In 1949 George married Ruth Hasler, who predeceased him in 1980 and in 1982 married Ruth Gillanders, who also predeceased him in 1997. For the last 13 years, he has enjoyed a special friendship with Marie Boeckner. He is survived by his son Douglas A. Sulman Q.C. (Lynn), his daughter Sandra Booth (Rick), 6 grandchildren John, Allison and Peter Sulman and Aaron, Adam and Joshua Booth, and one great grandchild, Clara Booth. In the late 1940’s and 1950’s George was the radio voice of C.F.C.O. and later employed at C.K.L.W. and C.H.Y.R. radio stations. Following his radio career he found success in the automotive parts and distribution business. In 1974 the Lieutenant Governor appointed him , Sheriff of Kent, Ontario, making him Queen Elizabeth’s representative in the County. In that role he was in charge of all Court operations in Kent County.  He retired from that position in 1992. George served as a Trustee on the Kent County Board of Education from 1967 to 1974. He was active in his community, as a member of the Jaycees and a member of the Parthenon Masonic Lodge for over 65 years and as a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason for over 60 years. He retired as Chairman of the Lambton Kent  School Board Student Assistance Foundation, after 4 decades of dispensing funds to deserving students for college and university. He was a strong adherent of Holy Trinity Anglican Church and a member of the Bishop’s Men of the Diocese Huron.  In retirement, he spoiled his grandchildren and furthered his studies in Egyptology with a particular interest in the Mummy donated to the Chatham Museum by his family. He played at golf for over 60 years and while he never came close to perfecting the game.  He always enjoyed playing the proper way, walking the course into his eighties.  Through golf made many life- time friends.  Family and friends are invited to the ALEXANDER & HOULE FUNERAL HOME, 245 Wellington Street West, Chatham, 519-352-2710, on Monday May 11th visiting from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral service will be conducted at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, 81 Selkirk St., Chatham, on Tuesday May 12th, 2015 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Vlasman: Sophia Elizabeth of Chatham

SOPHIA PIC FOR PAPERSSophia Elizabeth Vlasman passed peacefully on Friday June 6th, 2014 at 11:11a.m. after a courageous battle filled with hope and strength.  She is now our beautiful angel and is no longer in pain.  Beloved daughter of John and Jodi Vlasman, most amazing sister to Sammi and Clark, cherished granddaughter of Hilda Vlasman (the late Tony), Rudy and Christine Vinnai, (late Ann Vinnai).  Adored by many aunts, uncles and cousins.  A beautiful friend to many.  Our dear sweet Sophia was treasured by us all.  Her 16 years here seem so short, yet she touched so many.  Her dream of being a teacher was fulfilled by teaching us all what living really was about.  We would like to thank the Oncology Team, Radiation Team and amazing nurses and staff in the Pediatrics Medical Day Unit, as well as B6 at Children’s Hospital London.  As well as the caring Palliative Care Team, C.C.A.C. and Bayshore nurses Krystal and Linda.  A special thank you to Dr. Donna Watterud for your tremendous support while we cared for Sophia at home.  Lastly we thank our phenomenal family, friends and community who have lifted us up in prayer and support.  Family and friends are invited to pay their respects to Sophia as no family will be present on Monday June 9th from 1 to 9 p.m. at the Alexander & Houle Funeral Home, 245 Wellington West, Chatham, 519-352-2710.  A private family service will be held.  Friends planning an expression of remembrance are asked in-lieu of flowers please consider donating to TLC Charity @TLCfoundation.ca  Sophia felt very strongly about this foundation thanks to Leo Larizza-helping all children-no discrimination.  On-line condolences may be left at http://alexanderfuneralhome.ca

Mavin: Mrs. Barbara of Chatham

Barbara Jean Mavin passed away peacefully at Copper Terrace in Chatham with her husband, Hilary Mavin, at her side on Tuesday, December 31st, 2013 at the age of 83.  Born in Brantford to the late William Yeates and Laura Osborne, Barbara was predeceased by her sisters Billie, Helen, and Kay, as well as her brothers James and Dick.  Mother of John and his wife Jacqueline (and grandmother to Katherine and Richard of North Vancouver).  Barbara was also a gifted musician and dedicated teacher.  She became an Associate of the Royal Conservatory of Music of Toronto in 1953 and came to Chatham in 1959 to teach music.  She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Western Ontario in 1972 and joined the Laudate Dominum Choir in 1974, where she advanced from accompanist to choir director.  She was also the choir director of Christ Church for 25 years and a world traveller.  Family and friends are invited to the Alexander & Houle Funeral Home, 245 Wellington Street West, Chatham, 519-352-2710 on Friday January 10th visiting from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.  The funeral service will be conducted from Christ Church, 80 Wellington Street West, Chatham, on Saturday January 11 at 1:30 p.m. with the Ven. On December 30th, 2013, Steven Buschemeyer passed away at the age of 56 years.  Born in city of Chatham.  Son of the late Reginald and Lena Buschemeyer.  Son-in-law of Jean Ellwood.  Beloved husband of Donna.  Loving Papa of Lawrence Willan (Christine), George Willan, Jerry Willan (JoAnne), James Willan, Tammy Willan (Jose), and Carleane, all of Chatham.  Forever missed by his grandchildren Victoria, Charlyn, Eddie, Evan, Jessie, Rita, Gary, Shane, Adam, Natasha, Brie, Stephanie, Jason, and Rdohla (Claude).  Great grandpapa of Ashlyn, Lainey, Talia, Dylan, Ashton, Markham, Sylas, Dakota, Gauge, Addison, Leighton, Trinity, and Alexzander.  Dear brother of Brian, Terry, Penny, and Marriane, and predeceased by brothers Wayne and Randy.  He will be missed by his special nieces and nephews Claudine, Tom, and Richard, and also by our brothers and sisters of Living Faith Community Church.  Family and friends are invited to Living Faith Community Church, 530 Victoria Ave., Chatham, visiting Monday January 6th from 10 to 11 a.m., with the memorial service to follow at 11 a.m. with Pastor Andrew Nelson officiating.  Cremation has taken place.  Arrangements entrusted to the Alexander & Houle Funeral Home, 245 Wellington West, Chatham, 519-352-2710.  Friends planning an expression of remembrance are asked to consider the Canadian Cancer Society Oncology.  On-line condolences may be left at http://alexanderfuneralhome.ca

At Riverview Gardens, Chatham, on Thursday December 12th, 2013, Mrs. Rosalie Pollock of Chatham in her 92nd year.  Cherished daughter of the late Joseph and Selina Janssens.  Beloved wife of the late William (1968).  Loving mother of George and his wife Jean, and Rosalie and her husband Hugh Terry.  She will be lovingly remembered her grandchildren Tracy(Sean), Jeff, David, Dan(Beth), and Jean(Richard), her great grandchildren Sean(Jill), Michael, Michelle, Perry(Erin), Cory, Candice, Stephanie, Samuel and Ella, and her great great children Carson, Aubrey and Madison.  Caring sister of Betty Janssens.  Predeceased by her daughter Judy (1986) and son Ronald (2008), and brothers Willson and Fred.  Rosalie had a very active life which included bowling, golfing, dancing, card playing, and travelling.  She liked to see how people in other countries lived.  Rosalie was a long time member of the U.C.W. at St. Andrew’s United Church.  She had many good friends-Norma, Jane, Deloris, Agnes, Sandy, Gary and so many more that we are not aware of.  She had a sunny disposition and will be dearly missed by all.  Family and friends are invited to the Alexander & Houle Funeral Home, 245 Wellington West, Chatham, 519-352-2710 visiting on Sunday December 15th visiting from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.  The funeral service for Mrs. Pollock will be conducted in the chapel of the funeral home on Monday December 16th at 1:30 p.m. with Rev.
