ASHTON, Mrs. Ilene (nee Carter), of Trillium Court, Kincardine, formerly of St. Thomas, passed away peacefully at the South Bruce Grey Health Centre, on Thursday, June 21, 2012, in her 87th year. Beloved wife of the late Roy M. Ashton (1996) and dear friend of the late R. Basil Thompson (2002). Loving mother of Linda (nee Cameron) Ebben (Peter) of Kincardine. Loving step-mother of Judi Ashton (Paul McDermott) of Komoka, Joan Ousey (Peter) of Lambeth, and Dean Thompson (June) of Shedden. Grandmother of Kelly Allingham (Ian) of Kincardine, Kimberley Ebben of Kincardine, Katrina Ebben of London, Kris Ebben (Cindy) of Kitchener, Kameron Ebben (Thora) of Kincardine, Ashley Thompson and Vanessa Thompson. Also survived by 5 great grandchildren, Caden, David and Jared Allingham, Erika and Paige Ebben, all of Kincardine, and many nieces and nephews. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, having been predeceased by a sister, Ella Mae MacDonald, and three brothers, Leighton, Harold and Lloyd Carter. Born in Malahide Twp., ON, September 2, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Mabel (nee Rogers) Carter. Ilene retired from the St. Thomas Psychiatric Hospital with over 25 years service. She was an adherent of Grace United Church, St. Thomas. She was actively involved in many volunteer organizations, including Meals on Wheels for 19 years and the Tuck Shop at the Valleyview Home. In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place. A public memorial service will be held at the Sifton Funeral Home, 118 Wellington St., St. Thomas (519-631-1160) on Wednesday, June 27th at 11:00 a.m. Flowers gratefully declined.
